Clunn goes with.......Wright and McGill???

Featured Replies

'Tis true according to another site this morning.  He'll be fishing with both the SK rods and reels.  I guess that means the $$$ were really good.....or those rods/reels are better than many give them credit for.

Probably an upgrade to that BPS stuff.  RC could probably beat the pants off of most with a willow branch and twine.

I'm going with option A. Francho's point is good as well.

Hope he can get them in better colors. Sorry but Skeet Reese looks like a giant bubble bee.

Considering BPS reels are basically Revo's and W&M is made by the conglomerate that makes Tica, I'd say its a downgrade for sure.

Wonder what the contract was?  I bet his 64 year old butt is laughing his way to the bank, GOOD FOR YOU MR. CLUNN!

Money talks , BS walks!!!!!!!!

Ok rods, not so good reels I think it's a downgrade.

x2!!!...

I'm guessing that it is hard for him to find sponsorships. He took what he can get.

victory reels are GARBAGE

if you look at his history he has never used high priced or high end gear. He fishes with the same equipment that any working man can afford. Just like he uses aluminum boats as much as possible on the tour.

Though I hope he gets them to make a slower gear ratio reel and change the colors.

Not always cheaper......I remember Team Daiwa Clunn rods and he used top of the line Daiwa reels.

You guys are making the assumption that he'll be using equipment straight off the rack.  I sincerely doubt it.   :D

Doesn't matter what they're using, though the idea that they are endorsing gear, or creating signature models is a more than a little shady.  The point is, this is the crap they're selling.  Apparently that does mean a lot to many more anglers than I'd care to think.  Its comical to me to see bright yellow, white, or orange rods whipping around on another boat in the distance.  Then again, who am I to talk with my bright yellow yak, and conspicuous blue rods......

Any of you guys ever been in a BPS store?

Do you think Bill Dances uses all that stuff?

How 'bout the pink little girl rods?

It's biz, that's all.

Old schoolers that invented the sport and the opportunities within the sport get a free pass.  The notion that pros don't use what they say they use is shady to me.

I thought Rick Clunn was an old schooler too.  He's certainly been there since pretty well in the beginning.

Clunn's a freak.  But yeah, I suppose he gets a free pass.  But I think you see the point.  He is still actively competing.

Yes I do see your point. And I agree. If a pro is claiming he is using a specific rod or reel, then he should be using it.  If he is just endorsing it then basically you are just paying extra for his signature when you buy it, and thinking because "so and so" signed it then it HAS to be good.

In the case of these rods, it'll be pretty easy to tell, if the rod beds completely over on a 12" fish, then its the genuine article, LOL.

Wow, they are that weak??  I never would have known, that horrid yellow color prevents me from even looking at them, even in curiousity.

While it may not be 100% honest, it's sure an accepted practice. How much advertising is 100% honest? Very little that I see.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that many of the rods and reels are NOT what you buy off the shelf. But the masses will never see or notice a difference. Many of the reels are the same basic reels, but upgraded and tuned... rods vary from OE parts built by a master builder to complete customs with decals and color schemes that match the factory rods.

This is just one reason I would never buy equipment based on a spokesman or pro user.

sorry to stray off topic.

I said it on the KVD thread and I'll say it here. Nothing influences my buying decision LESS than an endorsement. I don't care if they actually use the product or not.

I can't believe anyone over the age of fifteen says to themselves "Wow,_________uses it. I gotta get one"
