What line are you guys using on your crankbaits?

Featured Replies

What size/type of line are you guys using on your crankbait poles when throwing cranks from 1/2 - 3/4 oz?

I am thinking I may go with Yo Zuri soft in 15 lb test, am I on the right path?  Will this work with shallow, medium and deep cranks?  Would a mono, floro, or braid be better suited?

15lb Yozuri would be good for the mid and deep, not sure I would go that heavy on the shallow unless there is a lot of weeds or wood around.

I use either 10# CXX or 12# Berkley 100%.

I use 10 and 12 pound Yo Zuri. Very strong for it's diameter.

I use 8 - 10 lb Seaguar InVizX for deep cranks and 12 lb Sufix Elite for shallow cranks.

Right now I have large spools of 12# and 15# Yozuri.  I rarely fish water deeper than 10-12 feet.  I am in usually moderately weedy waters here in the northeast.  I have to contend with slime rockets a lot.  So I would be throwing say 1.5 and 2.5's as well as 1/2oz and 3/4 lipless cranks.

x2....had no problems going this route..

12lb Gamma Fluoro

I like 20lb Braid for almost all my cranking, cast further, gets deep divers deeper, and you can feel everything. It's a must IMHO when ripping baits from grass. I don't have any trouble with fish coming unbuttoned on braid, I use a rod with a moderate action, premium hooks, and don't keep the drag locked down tight.

I'll second that.

So far you have replies of 10 -15# so that should give you something to shoot for. 12# is probaly ideal. Im using 15# right now for shallow/medium divers.

X3. Except I use 10 lb braid with a mono leader.

I'm trying Ande Backcountry this year. 10# on my deep crank rod and 15# on the others. Inexpensive, low memory, decent abrasion resistance and I've had good luck with it fishing for white bass & hybrids so I decided "Why not". I did catch one 3# fish last fall on the 15# and Deep Little N and it worked (imagine that)...

10lb Yo-Zuri for me.

10# CXX or Suffix Promix
