Spring time Tackle

Featured Replies

I have a decent tackle box going, but when i bought my tackle I was just buying at random. No real info to support my choices. So what I would like is a spring time buying list of the best baits and color choices for this time of year. And the best techniques for fishing them. I have been reading info online till i am blue in the face and sorta confused at this point. Thanks for any help.

Like RW said, everything works in the Spring. However, since I have been reading/researching MANY posts on the effectiveness of the "magical" Senko, I have loaded up on them the last week and intend to give 'em a real workout tomorrow. I have 6 different color combos in 5" and 6". Of course I'm going to try both wacky and T-rig. Don't think I'll throw much else. Seems you can't go wrong with them.

You should try out C-rigged lizzards, flukes, senkos.

Ok. let see... I am thankful for the Link RW. I conclude from that link that the list should go as follows:(in no special order)

1. Rapala- X Rap-4" , Shad Raps- Shad color , Husky Jerks , ALL DT's- bluegill color , Fat Raps- Crawfish

2. Smithwick- Rogue( seemed very popular)

3. Mann's- Minus 1

4. Rat-L-Trap- Crome color

5. Berkley- power worms- Pumpkin, Blue flake

6. Terminator- Spinnerbaits- willow & colorado blades- white, chartreuce colors

7. Senko- 5" white with gold/black flake

8. Heddon- Torpedo

Now these are the ones that everyone seemed to agree on.

I would like to know the best ways to fish these baits.

Thank you to everyone that has and will help me. Thank you RW for your insight and knowledge of past post that have answered my ?'s.

I like Hard and Soft jerkbaits in the spring.

As soon as the ice melts here the first thing I'll tie on is a Red lipless crankbait then a colorado blade white spinnerbait and slow-roll it

I have nothing in my tackle box that is red. I have been noticing it seems to be a must have.  As for the spinner i have a few white ones.

What Brand Lipless crankbait in Red should i Feed the bait monkey with?

I like senkos, jerkbaits, and jigs in the spring. One of my favorite techniques for the spring is to take a swimming jig tipped with an Uncle Josh #11 and burn it into the boat. As I'm burning it in I give it subtle jerks with my rod tip. I have caught a ton of bass that way.

Can't beat the old Rat-L-Trap although I'm really beginning to like the Excalibur XR series of lipless cranks.  They have one that is a craw color and one that is Rayburn Red.  Both are favorites of mine.  I've just picked up some of the new Strike King Lipless cranks but I have yet to get them wet.

For spring time I also like Chrome/Blue rat-l-traps and a black/blue jig.

White and chartruse or a plain white spinnerbait.

For me, I have the best luck with the following but as stated when the fish are hungry, everything works.

1. Weightless Senkos

2. Zoom Lizards T-rigged

3. LC Pointers

4. Fat Ikas
