We absolutely smashed them Friday and Saturday in drains on a c15 crankbait.  I didn’t keep count Friday but it was every cast until 9:30 am.  Saturday there wasn’t as many fish but we still managed to catch 41.  Had around 21lbs Friday and 16lbs Saturday.  10-15’ drains with Shad.

I got 3 tags leavt but I do have the boat squared away and already sorted out my take bags.

Probably head up tomorrow to do some work and fish the warm up during the week.

Dad said it rained big time at the house today. I expect san miguel to be low and now muddy for the next few days.

Yes Sir. that's what I like about this area its got a lot of spots within a 5 min boat ride.

Don't want to get in the way of Toledo talk, but I think this would be the best place for me to get some informed opinions.  If you want me to move it, I'm more than happy to.  It looks like I'm gonna spend a few days with a kayak on the SW side of Cross Lake first week of February, and these shallow cypress swamps are completely new to me, and I need to bring as few rods as I can.  

 

Preliminary plans are to

 

- pitch t-rigged large worms, craws, and jigs at trees or clumps of trees that are different than most, favoring deeper water if I can determine it. Mostly in the black and blue range

- slow roll spinnerbait in any deeper water, mostly in the black and blue range

- hit shallow water lanes with swim jigs/chatterbaits, mostly shad/crappie colors

- speed worms swam through pads, if there are any, favoring dark colors

 

Frogs? Squarebills? 6" magdraft? buzzbaits? spooks? poppers? traps?

 

Any insight on where (probably not able to deal with the big water in this yak), how, and when (daytime only) is most appreciated.  Looking forward to catching my first bass of 22 in your neck of the woods.  I included the water that I think I'll most easily be able to access, color line is set to 10'.

Got nothing for Cross Lake but @Bass_Fanatic might know a little something.

It's been really quiet. Coming up mid-February and will be interesting to see how what's going to change in the next month. Looks like a cold spell next week...hoping for a warming trend to end January so we can kick-start the pre-spawn!

Bass are slowly starting to stage up, keep an eye on the next 3 full moons.

 

Keep in mind everyone will tell you the bass will move into the creeks & that is absolutely true. But realize there are resident already in the creeks & they'll be the first to move up.

How do you catch bass on Toledo this time of year with no hydrilla anywhere? I fished flats and points the other day at a variety of depths with c/r lizard, traps, etc with no luck. I'm lost without grass to fish.

Structure and cover with time of year in mind. What kind of electronics do you use? Side/down scan and ActiveTarget/LiveScope are pretty valuable tools...

I catch bass here year round without any type of grass.

 

Grass is over rated.

My question is "How do you catch them on Toledo with no grass?" What kind of structure? Timber, points, etc? The bass used to relate to the flooded timber before the hydrilla appeared on Toledo. But with the hydrilla, it can be really good. Just not fishing Toledo much and lost with no grass.

Only fished Toledo one time for 3 hours or so (had just finished an event at Rayburn and figured I would make the "quick" drive to Toledo before heading back to San Antonio). The result was the 6lber in my profile pic... Flipping timber. If it wasn't for these forums, I would never have known grass was ever in that lake!

Driving from Rayburn to Toledo do you remember what the landscape looked like?

 

That's what the bottom of both lakes look like. Not just the hills, ridges, valleys but timber. From the Gulf of Mexico to Shreveport on both sides of the Sabine river is logging country.
