Hey Wesley, let us know how you like the Humminbird (or not)after you use it. I'm looking to get something soon and can't decide between the Humminbird and Lowrance. As much as they cost, I don't want to make the wrong choice but it's hard to know without trying it out! I know it's mostly personal choice, they're both good units but with new units out from both of them, I was hoping to get some good feedback to make a choice with.

If you want to hit the water and check mine out let me know.  I head back offshore the 21st.

I fought the wind all day! Caught about 100 fish over e past two days. A lot of 3-4lb fish which would be awesome if I was fishing a regular tournament, but doesn't help much when looking for 1 big one. I dropped one over 7 at the boat yesterday and had one probably 9 or so come unhooked this morning. Weighed a 5.66 in the 12-1 hour and got 9th. It has been strange, couldn't get bit on a crankbait, but once I figured out what they wanted I was literally getting bit every other cast.

I was getting nailed on main lake points with a crankbait.  But all the fish were 2-3 lbers. 

New to the forum here fellas. Appreciate all the info. I have no idea how i never found this forum before but am sure glad i did.Seems like a bunch of friendly folks who share good info on the lake. Been going up to the lake now for about 10 years. My first trip was for a best 6 and i fell in love with the place . Am still to this day just blown away at its size. After that maiden voyage I probably averaged four or so trips a year up there always renting in various locations around the lake. A bout 3 years ago my 12 year old son caught a bass just under 9 pounds in Palo Gaucho and that sealed the deal. I was on a mission to find me a camp on the lake and spend as much time as possible up there. A couple months ago i finally closed the deal on a lil place mid lake Texas side in between Spring Hill and Lowes Creek. A lil deep water cove right off the boat lane where it makes the turn to the Louisiana side.Been making the hike alot more frquently these days.

 

So the most recent report that I can offer is from this past weekend. Fished the big bass splash and just never really got on them. Stayed pretty much 15' plus the whole time trying to find some big fish and only caught five or six each day. Fished the mouth of Palo Gaucjho and Lowes Creek mostly. I did manage to cath a 5.92 off of millionaire point that got me a $400 check so all was not lost.Caught that fish on a carolina rig mardis gras colored senko. Did catch some other fish in the 3-4 pound range but no money winners. Also broke off on a good fish.Did get up shallow one morning in Lowes Creek. When you are entering Lowes we idled over towards the right side main lake point and fished the grass in about 10' of water a hundred or so yards off the bank .Seemed kinda like a big flat but havnt really looked at the map to confirm. Anyway the white bass were up there schooling and my boy caught one aftter another on a sexy shad double willow leaf spinner bait until he was tired of messing with them. That was alot of fun. On a side note my younger son wore the big blue gill up back at the camp fishin out of his kayak. Them suckers were some good eating.

Smoked them on main lake points, Carolina rigging, they would not eat a crankbait! Caught them on a big green pumpkin trick worm with a dipped tail

I had some luck between squalls last weekend in the San Miguel area. Carolina rigged grande bass 4.5" rattlesnake on a few humps. 12-15' on top of one dropping to 25' and 18-19' on another dropping to 25'. Nothing big, but bruises to prove it was fun! Caught a couple on a 6XD sexy shad also.

I know this is a stupid question, but could somebody please give me an example of a main lake point? And a secondary point.

the thought process on point fishing is, fish move to back and forth to spawning areas(spring) and to main lake points(summer) using a particular depth line. they hold on these secondary points as a staging area to feed up on their journey in and out ......the picture is from a brandon palaniuk seminar of a percentage triangle..... look it up hard to explain

a triangle within a triangle is a sweet spot..... this is a technique to eliminate unproductive water.......... 90% of fish live in 10% of the water at a given time.....

Yes, tons of good info here, I have to google that seminar.  Thanks for that post Shaneus.  Also to Little Fish,,remember you don't have to see it above the water for it to be good.  I love the secondary points you can only see with a good map or your electronics.  Especially if its directly off the main point.

Thanks. I'll remember that. Those are the ones I'm looking for on maps and navionics etc. How deep is too deep? I understand the 15 + or - 3 but are there exceptions? I've found some potentially good looking structure that may be too deep?

I'll fish out to about 35ft, but I know people who catch em in 40-50 ft.

15' + or - 3' is where I start, I may go shallower or deeper. I've caught em out to 40' but usually 20-30' during summer.
