Had 30lbs today and my dad had 14lbs in our club tournament. Our best 5 combined was 33lbs. I had 3 fish between 7- 10lbs jump off. My big fish i caught was 9.5lbs.  Lots of tournaments coming up, but

  • Well two days in & only 3 fish ?   But one was tagged BassCashBash which I was registered in, it won me a 2019 Dodge Ram!

I thought it would be appropriate to bump this thread after hearing the bad news of @Catt's passing.  I don't fish Toledo Bend but this is a very interesting read for anyone.  I know Tommy took a lot

Sorry man. Hope it's not what you think.

Wow Josh! Man I hate to hear that! I know the feeling though, I think I blew mine also going into big bass the other day but I haven't taken into the shop to see the full extent of damage. It just locked up all of a sudden while running around 5k rpm. Anyway, looks like I'm down for the count for awhile!

Count me in on the blown engines. I blew mine Thursday headed back to the camp. 14 year old Opti, so I'm leaning toward repowering. Sorry to hear of the other blown engines.

Sorry to hear about all the bad luck.  I sure hope it is not contagious!  I will be to dang far from home for that to happen.

Well my motor didn't blow knock on wood... but we really struggled with the fishing. Caught a few schooling bass Friday morning daylight till 10:30 and that was it. Fished shallow early then out to about 25' as the morning progressed. Back on the water at Friday afternoon and scratched not even a single bite. Slept in and did yard work around the camp all day Saturday. Headed out to fish 7:30 Saturday night and fished till midnight. One two pounder and one four pounder with three other bites that took whole worm off hook. Tried chatterbaits , large Colorado blade spinner bait and worm. The few bites came on black ol monster worm . All fishing done mid lake Slaughter, Lowes and Palo Gaucho. I think next trip in two weeks  i'm gonna head either far north or south because my determination to make myself fish mid lake close to camp has turned out some pretty slow trips as of late. Time for a change of scenery.

Hey guys, just wanted to send out an invite to everyone to our 2nd annual "Cenla's Blessing of the Hunt" here in Deville, LA.  Last year we had a great turnout and looking foward to it being even better this year.  Free admission, free food, a chance to win 100 free doorprizes, 6 guns, and a Can-Am 4-wheeler.  All you have to do is show up and have a good time!!  Hope to see some of yall there!

Well, I'm lucky to have good friends. KKing let me use his boat tonight to prefish for our club tournament tomorrow night. I'm fishing with Keith tomorrow so I figured I'd try and see if I could find us some fish. Graphed a lot of fish his afternoon but they didn't want to cooperate well. Ended up catch around 10 from 5pm-1am. Big fish went 7.12lbs.

Texas rig with a weight at The Bend. Regular or pegged? I would say regular in colder water and pegged in warmer water and punching but I'm asking the veterans of the place...

I never peg unless I'm punching

Me either but I was thinking that might be a mistake.

I also only peg when punching.  I don't peg even pitching grass unless it is matted.

I never peg unless I'm punching

Some times not even then!

If I'm pitching to outer weed lines & decide to move up & punch I'll use the same rod.

Thanks

Ok, here's another random question. What are the top three spawning areas in your opinion. Sadly, I only know one and it's the 1215 area.

Firm sandy bottom

Grass

Buck Brush

;)

Ha ha not what I had in mind but great advice, thanks :)

Spawning starts on the north end first & moves south, so the top 3 spawning areas is moving with the spawn!

I understand that but if you had to pick the top three areas with the largest amount of spawning fish at their peak times over the entire Spring?

North lake

Mid lake

South lake

What catt is hinting at is that this is a 180,000+ acre lake with 1200 miles of shore line.  There are many good spawning flats.  No many people are going to give away their best spawning areas on a public forum.  Its fairly easy to find spawners if you are looking in the correct area of the lake during the right part of the spawn.

Yep. Here are great spawning areas all the way from logansport to the dam. It's all about timing. Personally, I like to fish prespawn fish as long as I can so I stay south in the work for the most part. As for spawners, I normally only target them for a week or two south of Housen where I can see em!

Truth be known I don't fish bedding bass that much on Toledo Bend.

Why?

Each winter the lake level drops in anticipation of spring rains & when the rains comes, the level raises putting most nests far back in cover.

I prefer to follow pre-spawn from north to south; pre-spawn bass are easier to catch than bedding bass.

Like Wesley & Bass_Fanatic mentioned it is all about timing!

Ya, sorry for asking such a specific question. I was looking for some starting places to study now. Not really where to fish in the spawn. Anyway, I'll be moving a camper to Six Mile soon so I'll be there more. I'll figure it out.
