So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?

Featured Replies

I fished Six Mile Creek yesterday and had 8 keepers out of a total of 14. All of the fish were caught in 6-10 feet of water on a Rattletrap (Chrome/Blue Back) and a Watermelon Red Trick Worm.

I fished from the bridge over Six Mile Creek all the way to Miles Creek. Never noticed any schooling activity or any schools of shad moving around. Basically just kept moving around and picking up one here and there.

Just about to head out for the afternoon and want to check out Housen Bay today. My wife and I are will be here until next Sunday. Lucky for me she likes to fish almost as much as I do.

I thought it would be appropriate to bump this thread after hearing the bad news of @Catt's passing.  I don't fish Toledo Bend but this is a very interesting read for anyone.  I know Tommy took a lot

Y’all all must be getting ready to climb a tree?

Every day since sunrise the 1st I been in a tree.

I got to give them a break some time are there wont be any leavt for yall to catch?

I’m at the bottom of some trees cause I can’t climb anymore. Does that count? ? Glad y’all are catching. I’ll be over there when it gets too hot to hunt which won’t be long now.

Caught this 6 1/2 lb. in Housen Bay today on a KVD 1.5. Fishing has overall been good the past couple of days. Most of the fish we've caught have been on shallow crankbaits, swim baits, rattle traps, and a few on texas rigged plastics. Everything I've caught has been relating to cover on  the edge of creek channels in 6-10 feet of water.

(Had to do a little first aid on her. She had swallowed the crankbait so deep there was some bleeding from the gills.)

I think they did on a previous video, believe it will be for an entire year.

His vids to have some good info in them, but the dude just puts me to sleep.

Yall post up when they get to the meat and potatoes of the subject. I just want the data.

Supposed to head up either Monday or Tuesday. Hope to get some fishing in. Got to start working on the tree that Laura knocked over, but I'm going to take my time. Cooler weather will make work a little more bearable.

Thanks for the reports Bass Fanatic.

This video is on Lake Fork but is the same study that Todd Driscoll is conducting.

The lake is on fire right now!  The past few weeks we’ve been averaging 50-100 fish a trip fishing offshore ledges, points, and hard spots.  They are eating almost anything you throw at them right now.

The warm weather the past week has got the water temp back up to almost 70 and the fish more scattered.  We struggled a little Friday and Saturday but still managed to catch a few.  Friday the bite picked up after lunch and we managed to catch 50 or so bass.  Saturday we caught 24.  Arigs and a Carolina rig caught the majority of our fish in 15-20’.

@Bass_Fanatic Awesome!

Soon as I get over this hurricane stuff I'm heading up!

I'm headed up tomorrow and will be staying until the following Sunday. Our house is on Six Mile Creek but I also really like Housen Bay. Thinking I might try the Indian Mounds area while I'm there.

Being from south Louisiana I'm most comfortable in 10-12' of water or less. I may do some experimenting but will most likely rely on my strengths in shallower water.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If I don't do any good the first 2-3 days, I'll probably head over to Sam Rayburn. Mill Creek Park is only 30 minutes from the house.

Finally got to sit down and watch the video out on what tpwl is doing with the bass study. Very interesting stuff

Interesting! Very interesting!!

I found the motherload yesterday on Toledo.  I caught 93 mostly on an arig and C15 crankbait.  The fish would move up in 22’ to feed then slide back off into a draw in 31’.  There must have been 1000 of them down there.  I also found quite a few other good schools and I’d catch 5 or 6 really quick then leave them.  This is one of my favorite times of the year on Toledo!

@Catt I found with their 8 pound fish the way it lived so shallow for that period of time interesting, and how that particular fish has  two different homes in the summer months. And how most if not all the fish really had a small home range.  But it makes sense bc we catch fish in historical places season after season year after year. I’m really ready to see how these transition months play out for there study.

How y'all gettin along.

Lake level has not been dropping a bit. I don't get it. They got to be releasing water from somewhere up river. Anybody know?

Been 167.8 for over 3 days now. We ain't had a drop a rain and I don't believe theres been much up river either.   ????

Generator 1: closed

Generator 2: 3 hrs 4 pm to 7 pm

Spillway Gates: closed

No recent rains, lake level staying steady with slight drop due to evaporation.

Seems it should be dropping much more, especially if they Generating.

I want to see 166 !!!!

And so does one of my roadbeds.......LOL

@Corkpuller Ya gotta keep in mind the Sabine River & all the tributaries running into the big pond do not stop flowing just because it ain't raining.

May make a trip Thursday if I do hopefully I’ll have a report.
