For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports

Featured Replies

Thanks Brian, I was thinking of making a trip down there. I've never fished LOZ in the fall before and have only fished gravois arm.

No problem. The lake was turning over and the water was about 66 degrees, so it should get really good pretty soon. I would highly suggest going. Throwing spooks in the backs of coves at sunset is easily the most fun I've had fishing all year.

I'd actually say the opposite. If it's started turning over it should get really bad pretty soon, unless you can find water that hasn't turned over yet. The turnover on LOZ can completely shut the bite down. Once it turns over you might as well wait until the winter a-rig/jerkbait bite, which usually picks up December-February. Don't forget your hand warmers.

I on the other hand will be filling the freezer with slabs.  :eyebrows:

Here are some pictures and the video from the giant I caught at LaCygne this weekend. She weighed 10 ls 15 oz and released to fight another day.

Fished LaCygne Sunday- I started up lake and noticed quite a few boats in the river section. I pitched flooded brush and water willows for a while ending up with one fish about 2lbs.

On another note, I'm probably going to have a replica made of my dad's 4.3 pounder from Saturday. I've done a little research, but does anyone have any recommendations on good taxidermists in the area?

Natures Art in Arma Ks. Blake Vanlueen. Does GREAT work!

Interesting. I guess I was mistaken. Is it like that for all (most) lakes or just LOZ in particular?

Turnover is a fishermans nightmare most of the time. It can really affect the bite.

I have buddy who grew up in gardner, when he was a kid (12 years ago or so) he said he his nieghbor took him fishing at on old rock quarry off garner rd just south of the lake.  He showed me where it was a few years ago, but there was No Trepassing signs everywhere of course.  He said he thought they reopened the quarry and may have drained the water out of it some time ago.  He said they caught multiple 14 inch crappie anjd lots of bass too.  Does anyone know anythign about this quarry?  Who owns it?  If it was drained?  It doesn't really matter, but I can't find any info online about a quarry old or new in Garnder.  Just curious about the history.

It's still there and still off limits to my knowledge, there's no trespassing signs up anyways.

Is the south side of Cedar Creek lake open to public fishing and if so can you get to that side without a Boat? I only see a locked gate to access that side. Thanks guys

Just got word back from the motor doc. To make a long story short, gonna have to say RIP to the Evinrude. There's a possibility of a rebuild, but still kind of early at this point. Otherwise I'll be pinching pennies over the winter to pop for a different engine before spring. Will probably use my dad's Lund whenever the opportunity arises, but if anyone has Melvern trips planned, I'm always down for a backseat if it's open. #BUMMED

We'll see what happens though.

Go on Smithville Marines website they use to have a list of used motors for sale. What size are you looking for?

you can walk across the dam also if the water is not pouring over the top, there is a trail to follow.

Anywhere from 40-60 long shaft. Trim and tilt preferred. And I can just use the controls I already have from mine now. Have a line on a few 60s already, I'll peep Smithville marine too

Can you send me any info you found on it as well?

Drive west on 159th street from Lone Elm street and there is a road going back north that leads to parking and a road to the south side of the lake.

Okay, Thanks for the information guys. I assume that is the best side to fish from by looking at the lake?

Those were the best battles I've had In a long time. I tucked the rod under my armpit and just kept pressure on it. By the time I got the first one in my back was killing me. On the second fish I pulled put my phone and called sizzle and talked to him for 5 minutes on speakerphone before I landed it. It was crazy The way it pulled my boat around.

Cody, I think you should just come with me sometime.
