They've got King Shads on sale at Tackle Warehouse right now for $7.88, for what it's worth.

I have plenty of them already but I'm sure the price will go back up as soon as I'm ready to buy more.

Here are some pictures and the video from the giant I caught at LaCygne this weekend. She weighed 10 ls 15 oz and released to fight another day.

Fished LaCygne Sunday- I started up lake and noticed quite a few boats in the river section. I pitched flooded brush and water willows for a while ending up with one fish about 2lbs.

Had another good day on Wolf today/yesterday/Friday, whatever you want to call it at 1am.

I dont know where all they fished. I know they had 3 keepers in the little pond that you go under the culvert to get to on the south end.  I had another buddy catch some off the ledge/bluff area by the dam.  They were fishing jigs and squarebills.   I have always done well on the dam.   I like Olathe because its close and I can usually catch some healthy fish there, but i have never caught anything huge there.

I have a Wednesday off from school before finals start Thursday and would like to go fishing.  I was thinking of trying Olathe since it is very close for me.  Do you know where about on the lake they were fishing?  I have never really had much luck at Olathe, usually just a few here and there.  Never really been able to pattern them for some reason.

I went to Hillsdale after work for awhile today and fished in the hurricane winds for awhile looking for walleye. Threw a lot of different baits at them along the dam and honestly wasn't really expecting much but I had a few that were either bites or I was just running into them and feeling their tail or bodies hit my baits. I hooked something on a Havoc beat shad for a few seconds before it came off and I managed to FINALLY catch my first keeper walleye from Hillsdale :) a very thick 20" male that I barely got in the net before it popped off my rattle trap.

Nice fish Blue. Bet it looks better on the dinner plate. ;)

Im looking for a single jet ski trailer to convert into a kayak hauler. I would LOVE to take my yaks back to SC this summer on vacation.

Please keep an eye out.

Thanks!!

Blue how do you rig the Beat Shad?

Blue how do you rig the Beat Shad?

I had it rigged on a 1/4oz worm nose jig. It would probably have worked better on an 1/8oz in that shallow water but the wind was blowing way to hard to have felt a jighead that light.

Question. A 16' boat trailer, is the trailer 16' or it will haul a 16' boat.

If the latter, how long would trailer be?

Should be a trailer for a 16' boat. My boat is 16' and my trailer is 18'

Thanks blue. I might have some measuring to do. I did find a jet ski trailer in Wichita. Gurss I overlooked it on CL. DOH!!

Chris and I fished Osage State Lake in the beautiful weather today. We had white caps all day, 38 degrees at the ramp, 39 when we left. It drizzled on us until it started sleeting. The fish didn't seem to mind though. Water temps ranged from 47.9-50.2 and was fairly stained but not muddy. Neither of us had ever fished the lake so we just went on what we normally fish on small lakes early in the year. Most of our fish were on a wart or spinnerbait with quite a few on jerkbaits, and a few on jigs, tubes, and shakyheads. Lots of little fish but a few bigger fish to keep it interesting. This lake would be a blast with topwater when the water warms up and I'm excited to go back when it gets warmer out. Lots of rocks, brushpiles, shoreline weeds, stumps, and fishing piers. We caught over 50 bass and 2 wipers. I had the biggest one of the day 30 minutes after we got there on a tube next to a brushpile and she popped it and pulled really hard before I grabbed her. She went 5.22 pounds and was really happy to get back into the water and out of the cold air :)

Hardcore bro, love it!! Guess this proves you can catch em any time!!

Nice!  That lake has been on my list of maybes.  I almost hit it on the way back from the last razor clam classic.  It's right on the way.

A lake that size with a verified 5 pounder is what it's all about for me...

Unless I'm on La Cygne or Hillsdale :)

No zebra mussels in it so make sure you stop at a car wash and spray your boat and trailer off good if you hit it right after fishing Melvern.

Flash is actually who clued me into the lake (same guy that told me about Wabaunsee) and he knows of a couple 7's coming out of this lake so there is some big ones in there. The size structure was exactly as he described, they are either little or big, not may in betweens out there in that 13-16 inch range. Our fish were either 8-12 inches or 17+ inches, not a bad problem to have really.

Hoping to get out tomorrow. I'd like to hit melvern, though it could be quite windy in those parts tomorrow so I'm playing it by ear. I've been out there enough when it's windy and it just isn't any fun in my small boat. White caps and I don't get along.

If the wind decides to be naughty tomorrow, there's a decent chance I'll go down to mound city. I've got a feeling there's a big fish waiting there for me for some reason.

Anyone ever crappie fish at Melvern? My neighbor is going and ask me to post thank!!

I have and caught quite a few on minnows fishing brush in about 12' of water. The times I've been I did better towards the west end of the lake. You have to be able to find the brushpiles though.

New to the forums here and also to the KC area from Wisconsin. Don't really know too many spots but I have been fishing SMP and other small lakes around the area.. Been catching quite a few smaller ones that don't have too much size.. I did go to a lake and also SMP todaycaught about 8 total ranging from 12-15". Just thought I'd post since it'll be my first report/and post

welcome aboard mattX if you have an opportunity maybe try Wyandotte county lake. were having a free braggers right turny at lake melvern next weekend there should be around 20 of us there and were going to eat afterwords its a good time and a good chance to meet just about everyone who post on here. its a real good smallmouth lake and if you have a boat it might be better cause we have a guy or 2 needing a boater right now. anyway hope to see you out there sometime.

Would love to join you guys next weekend but unfortunately, we're heading back up to Wisconsin next weekend to visit family (for spring break). I appreciate the info. I cruised around Wyandotte once and I wasn't sure if I wanted to pay an addition $20 or so for the permit. Kind of on a tight budget right now since i'm in KC for college. Thanks for the information though. =)

Just not many big fish in the lakes close to the area unfortunately. Olathe or Cedar lakes both have bigger fish but they are not easy to fish from a boat, let alone from the bank. SMP is terrible for bass fishing anymore. A small boat helps a lot but if you don't have one and you're looking for bigger fish I'd probably fish Olathe either from the dam or near the small cut by the East fishing dock with plastics. You can catch fish from the bank at Cedar  but it is not a numbers lake at all.

You can get on KDWP's website and check out the FISH atlas for a list of all public ponds in the JOCO/KC area.

Unfortunately don't have a boat so all bank fishing for me. I've been fishing Lenexa, that's where my report came from and where majority of fishes are, but no size. Have yet to try Cedar, and haven't had any luck at Olathe, but only gone twice. Have not fished by the dam yet though. Thanks for the info Blue, it'll come in handy.

If you want to make a little drive Baldwin City Lake is a good bank fishing lake or at least it was 5 years ago.  There are some decent size fish in there too.

Is that the one they also call Spring Creek? Little, muddy, 7 acre lake just south off 56 about a mile? I've fished it a couple times and it isn't easy to catch fish but you're right it has some good fish in there.
