i started drivers ed on monday, got my learner's permit today, and drove with the insturctor yesterday and im going to do it again tomorrow.

this is why i havent been on much this week and i wont be on much next week.

safe driving tip....ditch drivers ed!!!  ;D  j/k if anything it lowers your insurance!!  i had already had my license for like a year when i took drivers ed.  i was just doing it to get the insurance bonus, well i never got that, only lasted one day.  i couldnt stand driving the "proper" way

Keep it between the ditches  

Take your time when driveing,  Don't get in a hurry and don't let someone rideing your bumper rush you.   Don't let your friends pressure you into doing something you don't feel comfortable doing trust me it will happen,  when you get your license everyone is your friend.   They won't be the ones responsable if you do something stupid.  

 Good driveing is really just having common sense. Really just take your time pay atten and always observe the speed limit,  and always wear and make everyone with you wear a seatbelt.     They save lives.    

Oh in about a year let us know how much you like driveing.  I'll bet you hate it by then.

Never been to Ramadi, but my former team leader was.  He said it sucked.  I've been deployed on two seperate occasions totaling almost 30 months in Sadr City (OIF II 2004-2005) and the Diyala Province in 2006-2008 (Baquba or however they spell it)  Within those two deployments, I have been involved in over 300 firefights, 1200 morter attacks, and nearly 100 IED attacks ;D  Good times.

So to keep this relavent to the topic, I took defensive driving and I drove through all of that with no accidents and retained a 15% discount in my insurances.  So there you go...that's Brian's contribution lol

I must say I don't know if all Driver's Ed classes are the same but the 2 things that are discussed the most are the facts of alcohol and the fact that you are not invincible, and not too much about acctually driving. :-/

Have you seen the red asphalt videos dave? they will change the way you drive

as for driving advice, listen to what your driving instructor tells you to do UNTIL the day after you get your license...then you can just have fun!!! (bad advice)

Aaaaah drivers ed....I remember that a few years ago. You guys wont believe me when i tell you about my instructor. To give you a picture of him he was i believe 58, he was a big man and had the hairiest nose on earth. I remember we would drive to his house so he could check on it because it was being remodeled. He would leave the 2 or three of us in the car for 15 minutes while he checked everything out and then we would go to the furniture store and he would go inside and check on his new furniture to go in his newly remodeled home. I am not lying when i say this he would fall asleep and wake up about every 5 minutes or so.The thing i remember most was he was trying to send a text message to someone and he couldn't figure out how to do it so he threw his phone on the floorboard and started cussing and calling himself stupid. It was an experience i will never ever forget.

At UPS they teach us the "Five Seeing Habits" Just remember: All Good Kids Like Milk

Aim high in steering Look at least 12-15 seconds down the road, not at the end of your hood.

Get the big picture Stay away from tractor trailers (UPS refers to them as billboards) If you can't see around a vehicle in the road, switch lanes. Choose the path of least resistance.

Keep your eyes moving Scan, don't stare. Check your mirrors frequently.

Leave yourself an out Expect the unexpected, make sure you have a space cushion on all four sides...and always in front. Safe following distance should be 4-6 seconds under 30mph, and 6-8 seconds over 30 mph. This makes me crazy when I ride with someone else, so many people tailgate on the highway like NASCAR! I'm a bad passenger. :-[

Make sure they see you Keep an eye out for hazards: pedestrians, cyclists etc. Communicate in traffic, use turn signals and horn. Make eye contact!

Good luck, try to stay relaxed.

Drive DEFENSIVELY! Always expect the other driver to do something unexpected. Keep your attention on what you and the other drivers around you are doing EVERY SECOND you are behind the wheel (yes, even when you're stopped at a stoplight or stopsign). Don't listen to your friends when they want you to race the guy in the hopped up Civic.  Practice situational awareness.  Pay attention to what's going on all around you.  Anticipate necessary lane changes, don't shuffle through your CD collection in heavy traffic, stay off your cell phone, etc etc.

Never ASSUME any driver is going to do anything!

Always expect them to do the opposite of what they should be doing.

If you're not certain you can make a driving maneuver without causing another driver to have to perform an evasive maneuver to avoid you,

then don't try the maneuver!

You're a young, inexperienced driver who's going to have his hands full just keeping your vehicle moving down the road correctly, at the correct speed and in the right lane.  I can't stress this enough, never put your vehicle into a position while driving that relys upon the attentiveness and skills of another driver to avoid you due to a mis-judgement on your part.  You can't rely on others nor should you.  Always err on the side of cautious.

If you are first in line at a light, when it turns green always check both ways before going into the intersection.  Don't assume everybody stops on red.  Learned this one the hard way.  Getting T-Boned hurts.
