Now this is a carp!

Recommended Posts

Just got this photo from a friend.  He got it yesterday in a local reservoir.  48 lbs. on the nose.  1 lb. 4 oz. shy of the state record.

I knew there were some big ones in there, but I didn't know they were this big.  Might have to rethink my carp fishing tackle from now on.

2-3 years ago, this same guy caught one around the same size from the bank.  Couldn't get it out of the water or weighed due to having had surgery a week prior and being alone.  IMO there is a state record carp swimming in this lake.

I have caught a few of those in the teen range but never even seen one that big....that is a monster. Congrats to him and I hope he released it....

I don't know about VA but in CA it is illegle to return a live carp to the water.

Really? If so I didn't know that.

I know that if you catch a pike you're required to kill it by law and report it, but never heard that about carp. I know a couple guys that fish for carp almost exlusively and they never said anything about it. They just keep the big ones and throw the small ones back.

I live in California and release carp all the time. I dont think it is illegal to put them back and no one has ever given me a problem because I release them. Even if it was illegal to put them back I would still do it. I feel they are a great game fish just like bass. Also I dont get what I would do with a carp if I were to kill it? I dont know how to cook them and I would never leave a fish on the side of the lake just to kill it...
