They do.  Apparently there was some photochopping going on, too.

Hah, oh man. I guess if you have an off-site accomplice it would be super easy to get up to all sorts of nonsese.

I'll say.  It really WAS about the money.

  • I'll continue to steer clear of the Mike Long discussions....but I thought this post was full of hindsight awesomeness   Jason Christie B.A.S.S. STATS Career earnings: $1,005,408

I was naive last week to believe all the stuff I read on here would happen in the local tournaments I fish.  However last Friday some pictures of milk crates filled with a limit of bass submerged below a turtle platform hit social media.  I'm really hoping it was a hoax, as the person put it on blast before contacting the authorities.

I can't comprehend the mindset it takes to cheat,  let alone for $1000.

For some people it isn't even about the money, the simply want people to think they are a great angler. Obviously in this case, I think it was the money first, then the fame.

Coincidentally apropos of next to nothing, one of the competitors in my local yak club got busted last week, too.  Not exactly certain, but it sounds like he was doing the digital age version of moving fish -- I think he was catching them outside tourny waters (or tourny times) and messing with the digital photo meta data to make it look like he was in compliance.  Guy's going to have trouble getting near another tournament around here for years.

Unfortunately, cheaters gonna cheat even moving to the digital age

I’ve known a lot of fishermen and never known any that would snag bass. And some of those I knew would think nothing about poaching a ‘gator or deer or two to feed their families back in the day. Not saying that was completely right but I understood it at least.

But snagging bass? they wouldn’t even do that to put meat on the table!! It’s kind of like the unpardonable sin of all outdoor pursuits.

Honor among thieves....you all could use a few more gator poachers.

Yeah, but they’d get caught nowadays with all the technology.

We have limited gator hunts but they’re more for rich folks that want the experience, not for making money anymore. The novices have to pay a licensed hunter to go with them so the hunters make a little.

The father in law of a old friend runs a seafood market and sells gator tail he hunts legally but he’s the only one I know of doing it anymore around here. Not at all like Louisiana.

Itll be like this until enough of the suburban folks dogs get ate. Then they might open it up some for more numbers for less $ .

There are cheats in every sport: Barry Bonds, Lance Armstrong, Marion Jones etc. Mike Long is just like them: another competitor with zero integrity. ?‍♂️

It is illegal to intentially snag fish in California, Michigan and New York, possibly a few other states. So everyone who see's the video with Long intentionally trying to snag bass thinking it's unsportsman like, it is IMO but it's not uncommon practice in most states.

Dottie the 25.1 lb LMB isn't the world record bass because she was snagged in California's lake Dixon with a white jig on top of the head and observers blew the whistle  on the anglers. Trap rigged lures with treble hooks are not illegal in California if only 3 hooks are used, hooking any fish outside it's mouth is illegal anytime.

You can add WA state to that list. When I saw that hidden footage of him in action,I knew exactly what was going on. I am not a snagger but I’ve seen enough ****** do it for salmon. Boils my blood.
