2nd annual BR.com roadtrip!!!

Hey Ronnie,

That sounds great.  I live literaly 10 minutes away from I-76, road wise.  The turnpike passes about 3/4 of a mile away from my house.  Is the 400 dollar figure a guess, or what?  I want to take you up on that offer, but what if it's just you and me?  I can't afford $800.00, and could go for alot cheaper by myself.  Granted I'd have to sell my car once I get there, and then hitch hike all the way back home.  ;D :o

What are the temps like in Texas in March?

All over the map... bring shorts and short sleeves and rain/cold weather gear.

Alpster,

Glad to see you are coming!  I am going to take this Fork trip instead of the Nat'l Rodbuilding Show, should be a great week!!  And I'l be shocked if you don't fill the other two spots in the next 24 hours!!

I simply can't wait for this trip.  I think I might have to pass up on the boat I want to buy just to go.  But for know it is the trip of a life time.  Sure I can go to Fork anytime, but not with the other forum members there at the same time.  I can't wait to meet some of you guys in person, and put a face to the names.  And I especially like the chance to pick up some pointers first hand. You just can't beat that.

I'll be surprised if Alpster doesn't fill those spots in the next 24 hours also.  Quite a deal.

Like I said, aside from that major cold front that sat on us till the last day, the place was awesome.  Cheap too.  I did the whole trip for less than 1k, flying from New England and this time it will be even cheaper after all the things we learned the 1st time.  :)

LBH,

What are the things learned the first time? Should we start booking flights / make reservations now?

You are the MAN for getting this together   THANKS A BUNCH!

If you know for sure you are going then I would highly recommend booking yoiur rooms ASAP. Waiting will only ensure less availabilty and possibly no rooms. Some people book these rooms 1 year in advance. Lots of people travel to Fork to fish during the spawn. So again if you know you are going to be there then trust me, book your accomodations NOW.

Here is a great site which contains all the info you will need to book your trip: http://www.ets-systems.com/

Riskkid-

#1, first and formost.  DON'T HIRE GUIDE RITCHIE WHITE!!!!  He is only capable of fishing for bedding fish, if they move off the beds due to weather, you are SOL.  He is not capable of putting clients on fish any other way but won't tell you that beforehand.  Well,..I did. :)

Reservations-Guides go first, then boats, then rooms.  I would book ASAP.

I am calling fishermans cove Marina as soon as they open today and I'm going to ask for a group discount.  The place has like 20-30 rooms,..I can see us seriously taxing that number.  Would be nice to get as many of us in the same place as possible.  Info will be up by noon (EST).

I learned also that 300lbs of tackle is not needed.  This time I will bring 1 small box and 3 rods, not everything I own.

I learned that "cream" isn't offered for your coffee in Fork, just milk.  I will have coffee/crea/etc in my room this time.  Bringing expresso machine, lol.  Makes the meanest cup of Jo ever!.

The only live bait available are pinhead shiners for crappie and waterdogs for bass.

I learned that grits and gravy is gross.lol

I learned Matt_Fly makes a meeeeean brisket and will fish till he falls asleep or till someone drags him up on shore.  Seriously.

I learned that all the people that showed up from different states and different backrounds all get along great and make for a very cool trip.  This one is going to be off the map!

We have been discussing this in the mod section and I can tell you this.

The BR staff is extremely pumped for this occassion.  Can't wait!

Not true. Their is a tackle shop that sells large shiners that are big for bass. It has been a while since I bought any but if my memory serves me the store was on hwy 515 once you crossed over the lake heading east. I believe they were on the north side of the road. Maybe one of the locals can confirm this. But those Shiners where easily 5 inches or bigger.

Keith, that's where Kevin got the waterdogs, we went up there that afternoon and the woman told us they havn't sold then in almost 2 yrs now.  They were getting harrassed by locals who are dead sure that the virus was caused by dirty bait!!  What a drag!

Can you get a name of the place so we can cross reference our data?  I could be wrong but the directions you gave sound dead on!.

Ok, If you know you are committing to this trip, please PM me with your full name and a phone number.  Preferably the cell # you will have with you at Fork.

I am going to start compiling a list of attendees and numbers to pass out when we get there.  Also include where you will be staying.

Mods-you are all set, got yours already.

"Tackle" can be had at many places but "bait" is a tough one. It did get to this point last year. Understand, we were dealing with a major front and the fish were very tricky. Kevin came in from fishing with a local who had a bunch of water dogs and they had slayed them. we were like "we paid good money to be here catchin' fish,......which way to the waterdogs, lol"

I'll never let my pride get in the way of catchin'!  lol

Ok who's your daddy?  ;):D :D

Here is the scoop for you guys.

1) Pay & Save

   903-765-2900

Hwy 17 & 182 in the Diamond Shamrock gas station

They sell Shiners that are larger then crappie minnows. I spoke with Lupe and he said their shiners are 3.5-4" long. Not giants but better then crappie minnows.

2) Country Store(This is the place I bought from before on Hwy 515)

   903-383-7686

Hwy 515 on east side of lake just past the bridge

They no longer sell large shiners. However, they sell Black Salty's. I spoke with Candy and she said they are about 3-4" long. She also told me they can order the XL ones. If so, you would need to pay up front for those as they are specialty orders. Those can get quit large like 1/4lb or 1/2lb. She said 6-7" long.

There ya have it fellas. I hope this helps. The more I talk about this the more I want to go. I just don't know if I can pull it off financially.

Also, I hope I am not coming across as a know it all on this. I just get excited about helping folks and if I know a thing or two about something then even better. I have fished Lake Fork well over 100 times. It used to be one of my favorite lakes to fish. So, I am happy to share any info I have about the lake with anyone. I really enjoy helping folks catch fish. Just thought I would mention that.

Unfortunately, only have my learner's drivers license, therefore I can't go.  However, I wish all of you luck, and maybe a few years the future I'll be able to snag a trip with you guys.

Anyone want to do some wild brook trout fishing here in the mountains of West Virginia?  Don't think the big town of Marlington (Roughly 300 people) would hold all of you guys.  ;D  ;D  ;D

Keith, don't feel funny, we had a few guys, mainly Matt_Fly, doing legwork for us before we left last yr too.  Any knowledge shared is always appreciated.

Thanks for doin' the diggin', I'll put that info on the welcome sheet I am building for attendees.  Thanks.

There is a guide, his name his Roy Greer, he advertises out of Mark Pack's Lake Fork Tackle shop.

The very same maker of LFT baits.     He will guide for half price out of your boat.    He teaches your electronics or anything else.

I have heard good things about him, but haven't personally used him.    If interested, you might PM Tom Reddington and ask him for advice on whether this option would work while on Fork during the pre-spawn and spawn phase.

Just an option on cutting expenses as two could share that expense and would make it an easy 100.00 apiece.

If Tom is booked, you might ask him to reccommend some of his friends.   Would love to see Tom and some BFRmembers and pics added to the wall of fame.

Matt.

Hwy 515 & Hwy 69

Emory, TX. 75440

(Lake Fork Tackle lure manufacturer)

Lake Fork Taxidermy

Tremendous replica's. TP&W uses these guys for the ShareLunker program. They have a great showroom. They are right next to Lake Fork Marina.

While making my resevation at Fishermans Cove Dan told me that "right act" is about to be repealed (he said it passed the house and senate and is waiting for Bush to sign it any day).  What that means is that Southwest Airlines will be able to fly in to Love Field in Dallas. For those of us that are going to fly and have Southwest at their airport we should hold off on plane reservations until this comes about as it could save alot of $$$$$$

The airport is minutes away from the Grapevine Bass Pro Shop.    But, by the time you guys arrive, the new BassPro Shop on I-30 on Lake Ray Hubbard will also be enroute to lake Fork.  You will drive right by it when going to Fork.

For those that need last minute shopping, BPS is on the way as of Oct 2006, Grand Opening this month.

That gives me 2 BPS with an hour from me.

Matt.
