Saturday was a slow day on the water, but the bass were more cooperative Sunday.

This silly girl exploded on a Johnson spoon, a forgotten favorite that still works well today.

I really like the spoon because it will often get through slop that'll shutdown a spinnerbait.

I knew she was delighted to be released, because as she departed she gave my wife and I a free shower

I've been meaning to break out the spoons, but keep forgetting! Do you use a trailer? How would you say you work a Johnson minnow through vegetation like that, just slow and steady, dropping into holes?

Yes Tony, I use a Twin-Tail Grub for a trailer

I like a slow, steady roll that even an old girl with bad eyesight can home in on ;D

The spoon runs a couple inches underwater all the way to the boat. The water averages 2-ft deep, so dropping into holes isn't necessary.

              Every time the spoon breaks the surface, just halt the retrieve to get it back on track.

The J-spoon rocks lazily back-and-forth, and since it never revolves it'll never twist your line.

The water level is much improved Bocabasser, but still has a ways to go.

Water temperatures averaged 84 deg Sunday, and because of all the rainfall

the water was murky. But thanks to poor water visibility, the post-spawn ladies

were patrolling knee-deep water

Im just giving this thread a little bump and sharing some of my success that i've had on kissimmee lately. I live on lake hatchineha so getting there is a short ride. We've been having alot of success in the mornings with rattle traps in blue & sliver and white terminator spinnerbaits.

You live on Hatchineha? I live 10 minutes from the Hatchineha ramp, in Nature's Edge.

The Hatch is often better fishing than the Big-K, but they're both about 10 mins from my home.

Yes i sure do. I live almost a stones throw away from port hatch. I actually just got back from my first slow day on kissimmee in a little bit. I've been fishing the canal that opens into lake kissimmee from the hatch and cypress. When there are good rain storms and this canal has moving water fishing can be deadly from what ive found in the past few weeks. Bass are waiting early in the AM and late in the PM on the flats on both sides of the canal for schooling shad. From the looks of it most of these fish are fatties and are stuffed with shad. Spinnerbaits and rattle traps in these areas make for some fast action if fished at the right time.
