Thanks, The warraty examination said the splines were twisted and they tried to say it was improper reversing, so they wouldn't cover it. But further exam on the splines showed it wasn't that, so it must have been an impact or something. I do know we came to a sudden stop at 60 MPH when the unit blew. But whatever, at least the Insurance co replaced the lower unit. :)

The most interesting part is being towed by an airboat and the insurance company saying they didn't have a preferred tow provider except the Coast Guard. FYI, I don't think the Coast Guard operates in Lake Kissimmee. ;)

The Coast Guard no longer tows except in cases of emergency unless they reversed their earlier policy. They will, however, contact the towing company you request, and maintain contact with you. One creative company was named "Any Towing Company". It seems the Coast Guard commonly asked, do you have a preference or do you want us to call "any towing company". Most would reply "Any towing company."

When I started lobstering, the Coast Guard would respond to any vessel in "distress", though not necessarily in peril. They stopped towing boats that ran out of gas, got fishing nets tangled in their props or had mechanical malfunctions long before I retired from commercial lobstering in 1998.

They would contact commercial towing companies to assist stranded boaters in non-emergency situations. No wonder the insurance company said their preferred tow provider was the Coast Guard. Coincidentally, you can, for a reasonable fee pay a premium to the various towing companies and retain their services for the year. Should you need a tow, they will provide it. If you don't, they pocket the fee you paid. Well, they pocket that anyway, but the fee is less than a single tow job would cost.

Cheap insurance for anyone who does a lot of boating, particularly on open waters.

Southern Fishing Gal, Welcome aboard!

Southern Fishing Gal, Welcome aboard!

Thanks Road Warrior!!!

The club that I go to has several women anglers along with their husbands. They usually don't show up for the meetings, but they do like to fish the tournaments and sometimes take the prize money after the tourneys. Some of them can flat out fish.

I wish my wife liked fishing :( she doesn't like the outdoors much.

Hi everyone....especially the girls,

First time ever writing a post here. I am a bass angler from Montreal, Qc., Canada. Started fishing bass only 3 years ago with my husband and I am now totally addicted to bass fishing. My fishing partner Carole and myself have been the only all female team to participate for the last two years at the B1 Canadian Championships. This tournnament has 150 teams of some of the best Canadian bass anglers in the country. We did make the cut last year but unfortunately missed out by less than a pound to make day 2 this year. A total weight of over 47 pounds was needed this year to win this event. Guess I have alot of practice and homework to do seeing we only had 12.32 pounds this year but we did weigh in our 5 fish and that was our goal. Hey afterall 69th last year and 89th this year is really not too bad for two beginner girl anglers.

My husband and I fish one trail together and have had a few top 10 finishes in the past two years. We are still in the learning process but our passion and commitment to the sport has brought us along quickly. Our preference is to fish smallmouth but we do fish both SM and LM depending on the body of water and period of year we fish.

Bass season here is almost at it's end with the cold weather heading in. Fished a tourny yesterday with a friend of ours and am happy to say I once again beat my hubby and his partner...lol! We finished 4th out of 30 teams and my smallmouth took the top prize for the lunker weighing in at 3.65 pounds.

Bass fishing here is not what it is in the U.S.A. but slowly and surely numbers are growing. Unfortunately, women are not always welcomed at times. That's one thing I like about the trail I fish, we are 11 teams out of 54 that are couples. Gives the girls a chance to talk together and learn from each others experiences. Most of the men often talk to us as though we don't even know at which end of the rod we fish......sad but true.

All this to say I am happy being a new member here and at least here is a new woman who will have plenty of time to share some stories with in a couple of weeks. GUESS WHERE I'LL BE BEFORE IT SNOWS...LOL!!!

Greeting from Maryland! New to this forum, not new to fishing. Gotta say I am not picky about what I catch so I love me some bass but anything that will bite. Started taking my 8 yr old daughter with me to a few spot the last few months.....gotta get a few more girls with tackle boxes instead of Barbi houses out there. wink.gif

Being the Tomboy that I was, I "appropriated any tackle boxes and rods" not being used at the time. I despised Barbie stuff. My parents got the hint pretty quick. :D

Tom boys and girls that fish, rock! cool.gif

Hmmmmm, maybe if Mattel ever gets a clue they will come out with Angler Barbi......... think of all the awesome accessories she could have! biggrin.gif

On page 1 was a mention of the USCG

A note about the USCG. I THOUGHT a few years ago. The USCG said they will NOT do NON life threatening calls anymore.

Instead they will send a commerical tow boat to you.

Sort of like the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Police Department actually picking up sick & old people to do things that required a car.

That stopped.

I carry a list of names of friends & local marinas if I need a tow. USCG is now at the bottom. It is in a tough freezer bag with tape holding it in the boat tackle box.

That Barbie I would have kept! I think they should come up with one.

Just a thought here...do you think it is possible having separate women's forum actually make them feel not sure about participate? It's like too much pressure on them....idk.

Sounds like a great idea, fishing as a whole should become more coed

It's sad to see the womens forum so sadly under used here. I guess their too busy fishing or whatever to use this great outlet for them.

What a shame.

Wow, just realized that Grey Wolf started this thread, I wonder how he's doing?
