Which type of trailer do you use on jigs, and why?  Pork or plastic ?

I base it on water temp. When the water is below, say, 45, which isn't too often in South Texas I like real pork. Above 50 I use a plastic chunk, and when the water gets above 65 I use either a plastic chunk or the back end of a creature bait like a brush hog or baby brush hog.  I like plastic simply because it is easier to use and less messy than pork-no brine to spill and much easier to get off the hook.

There is a good variety of plastic trailers for jigs. Colors, shapes, and sizes.  Plastic is so much easier to work with, less messy.  I have heard many like the pork in cold water.  I have to keep a handle on the variety of baits I keep or I'll drive myself nuts trying to figure which is best to fish with.  So as of right now, only plastic.

Plastic 95% of the time. Only use pork trailer when I want to really slow the fall of my jig.

Rebbasser and I do about the same thing.

The reason I use real pork in Cold water is becasue in cold water plastic stiffins up more than the pork does. With real pork I'll split the legs all the way up to the body. I believe I get more action out of the pork in cold water, but I like the plastics when the water temps hit in the 50's.

I always use plastic, cant stand pork.

Plastic. Not that pork isn 't good, on the contrary, the problem with pork is that it dries out very fast in hot climates like here and no matter how good it is, I 'm not going to baby sit a pork trailer all day long.  >

Bought a brand new jar of pork trailers.  When I put them in my tackle bag little did I know the jar had a slow seep.  After the bag sit over night in my house, I had a wet bag and wet carpet underneath.  No more pork for me atleast that's what the wife says. >

I either fish eakins craw or the zoom chunks which are both plastic.

I guess I am one of the few that still likes pork lol. I like pork because it has a fluid motion in the water. It also has a fatty underside that helps slow down the fall of the bait. It is made of a natural material that feels real because it is. Bass hold onto pork longer than plastic. This gives you more time to set the hook before a bass rejects your bait. Pork stays flexible in cold water. Pork is loaded with salt. Pork lasts alot longer than plastic of any kind. On the other side of the coin plastic trailers like zoom superchunk and 3x strikeking trailers have a wider color selection to match your jig. The 3x floats and has garlic salt and the superchunk is loaded with salt cooked in. Plastic is easier to deal with but your going to burn through a bag of zoom trailers each trip. The 3x trailers hold up better but they too get beat up and needs to be changed. I can use the same pork trailer all day and put it back into the jar for the next trip.
