wondering how you guys would compare them to the other brands like gammys and owners.

personally , im a cheap-o and ive never had a problem with them. on the other hand , i havnt used them long enough to come across an issue. i see that they have 'kits' that have 60+ hooks of various sizes for around $10 that seems right up my alley.

I would avoid them, they are very sharp and stay that way but I have broken several of their hooks.  Stick with the gammys

The only Matzuo hooks I have used are the 5/0 extra long shank offset worm hooks.  I don't know if they make them anymore.  But they were great for horny toads because they were long enough to crotch-hook them, instead of pushing the point up through the body. They also worked very well for long worms, like the 10" Rage Tail Annie.  I'm about out and can't find them anywhere.  But they were very good hooks.  They were hard chromed, came extremely sharp, held a point, and IMO, every bit as good as a Gamakatsu.

I think two bulk packs of gammies is about ten dollars, I think a bulk pack has 25 hooks in it.

i think thats what it is around here also. i dont think ill be purchasing $50 worth of hooks and sinkers to qualify for free shipping at TW so online would be out of the question if i have to pay for shipping..

The sickle hooks are pretty good for worms. I haven't broken any. I usually use Eagle Claw auto rotating hooks with worms but, not Senkos. I use a wide gap Gamakatsu or Owner for them. My brother-in-law uses them (sickle hooks) and is very pleased with them for texas rig applications.

well , i currently have around 7 of each size (1/0 , 2/0 and 3/0) and a few octopus hooks.

when i go take a look at the store , ill see if i can come across a deal. i guess worst case , ill save my change and order from TW and get the free shipping.

they arent bad, but i dont skimp on quality for hooks. not worth the risk. gammy and owner are the only ones i buy, except for bluegill. they end swallowing the hooks anyway. ;D

Only like the EWG version.

Have no faith in the J bend hooks as the point of the hook which bends down sometimes digs into the bait when texposed on a hook set.

Wish I had been by that trash can.  Got a pack of gammy jig hooks the other day to tie some crawfish patterns on, first one I took out did not have a hook point, just a blunt end.  Probably should have tossed the whole pack.  

I have matzuo cranks that catch fish.  The hooks seem fine to me.  Try a smaller pack, see if you like them before jumping for a value pack.

Sadly, I had the same experience but it was with the offset worm hooks.  They were nice and sharp so I started.  But after breaking the first hook, I gave the others away.

like i said , ive never had a problem with them since i fish on a budget. i guess i can pick them up and worst case , im out a few dollars. shoot , ive wasted more money than that on other things , so why not.

and personally , ive never broke a hook in my life.

Had ok luck with them, they seem to put a big hole in the fish, not sure if that is due to sharpness.  I have not broke any worm hooks off, but I cannot say the same about Gammy's.  I broke a total of 6 hooks last year, and they are not small hooks and did not have that many fish on any of them.   For $.99 I would try them.

Why skimp on hooks?  Owners aren't that expensive and they work.

Funny... they haven't gotten any better after nine years....I had issues just this past Saturday and on Sunday, I went through all of my terminal tackle to ensure that I have purged all of them.

I was using their sickle jig hooks, they hold really well and they are cheap, the issue is that out of a box of 1000 I'd have to send back at least 200 and the last time I sent them back it was 347 bad out of 1000. The worm hooks are the same way, you'll buy 5 or 6 packs and the first pack will be fine and then you may get a bad hook in the second pack and by the 3rd pack there is 3 bad hooks. If Matzuo could make their hooks consistentl they would be tough to beat but for me it isn't worth the hassle of wondering if each hook I use is going to break or if they will be defective that prevents me from even tying it on.

What manufacturing company doesn't have quality control these days? I've never even heard of the brand but if that's true they need to consider hiring someone like me with p-tech degree who can assess quality if they wish to have any impact among the other manufacturers. I can't recall ever breaking or even bending a hook though, ever. I break them off before I see that happen lol.

I had some small 1/16 jigs with the Sickle hooks. They broke very easy at that weird bend part.

 

Bought a lure from them and the trebles were all blunt.
