Is this the "supposed" photo of GP's world record, that surfaced a couple years ago ? I found it on a Google photo search and it had no captions.

Either way, this is certainly a giant bass from the old days. It doesn't look like a super fat trout-eater (which of course, GP's bass would not have been) but it does have a massive frame, and looks like it could be 20'ish to me. 22-4 ? .....well, we all know how photos can be so misleading, to the high, or low side.....

Hmmmm. I dunno'...... But I'd take one like this today. How about you guys ? :-)

Truthfully Chris, there's no clear view of the angler's hand, which makes that photo a tad suspect

The only pic I have seen that is purported to be the real fish is with a small kid and a buddy or uncle. Perry is not in the pic, but it is a massive bass. Like you said, Chris I would be OK with one that size. The 50s model car definitely rules this one out, but it's a real hawg anyway.

This photo was found in the attic of a distant relative of George's so they tried to say it was of George's fish. But that's not George holding the fish and they don't know who the kid is. So there is still no proof that would hold up.

I don't think even you or I are that old Roger, but it's a great story, and who's to say you wrong?

I watched a special on the World Record Bass a while back on one of the outdoor/espn shows (can't remember). But most people believe that the fish Perry weighed in was a Carp or Striper. :-/

If I was holding Fish Chris' recent 17 lb. bass, would it not still be a 17 pounder, just because I was holding it?  Would he still not be the one who caught it, just because he was behind the camera?  I realize it's not "ideal" but there is no actual evidence to say Perry's fish was anything but legit, is there?   I have no doubt that if GP had any idea that this would be such a huge debate later, he would have done a few things differently.  If for no other reason than his reputation.

You can call it controversial or disputed or under documented or you can even call it a carp, but old George has still got the record until one of us beats it. Like it or not and believe it or not, it still stands. That's just the way it is and only a larger fish caught properly will change it. That's just the way it is.

What can be learned from that one photo of the guy and the kid holding the fish.

They say it was taken in front of the Post Office in Helena, GA.

So I look up the Post office address and come up with 612 Forsyth Ave.

I google earth it and check it on my GPS Program and I find out that Forsyth Ave runs from SW to NE and the Post Office is located on the SE side of the road.

So I look back at the photo and according to the length and direction of the shadows in the picture the picture was taken early in the morning. Between 7 and 8:30am. Sunrise was a 5:26am.

According to the ESPN story it takes them almost 1 hour to drive to Montgomery Lake.

According to a story in the Augusta Chronicle he went fishing because the fields were too wet to plow. So he called his fishing partner, Jack Page, and ask him to come and pick him up so they could go fishing. They drove 45min to the lake, fished for a little while, caught the monster fish, packed up the truck and drove 1 hour to the Helena Post Office that didn't open until 10am. (according to county records) And according to the picture all this happened before 8:30am.

It would be a very slim chance that the fish in the photo is the same fish that George caught.

This is just my observation with a little research but it still doesn't have me convinced.

To muddy the water even more, the rural post office in Robert, LA. moved while I lived there, so post offices move and change location as the population grows sometimes. Also, if they headed out at 4:30 AM while it was raining (too wet to plow) they could of made the trip, fished a couple of hours and been back by 8:30. We will just have to believe George's story till we know better, I guess. It is fun to play C.S.I.

Well, since you can't ID the "road" from the pic... it could be the road, P.O. driveway or the driveway to another property all together. So actually you can't prove the direction or if it was a morning or late afternoon photo. Who knows, it could be a pic from that evening after they were home. The fish could have been on ice throughout the day.

Too many unknowns to prove or disprove anything, IMO.

That's just to much work to put into saying that isn't George's fish.   Who cares the fish in that pic is bigger than any Bass any of us on here have ever caught and like it or not it was caught evidenced by it beign in the pic.   If that fish isn't 22+ it isn't an ounce.
