Will fish die if they swallow plastic worms?

Featured Replies

This is why I decided against using a Tiny Child Rig. I've seen fish photos on Reddit with as many as three Senkos in the bass. When I first heard about the Tiny Child Rig my first response was that it was a great weedless way to catch fish. I put the rig on two combos, one a small setup with little nail weight, another with a bigger worm and screw weight. Before I used either of them I realized how easy it would be to lose the worm when a fish would bite it, and could end up in their stomach, both plastic and metal weight.

It seems like you are "that guy" if you are a stickler for using proper terminology, but NOT using the correct terminology leads to a giant amount of misinformation.

It seems that you are “that guy” who makes misleading statements and doesn’t like being corrected.  I am actually correcting misinformation.

I assume you're not actually using the zman elaztech TRD if this is occurring.  Elaztech is extremely durable and you wouldn't even be able to stick a nail weight into it.

For the Tiny Child Rig - try the Z-man Neko Shroomz weight and a dab of super glue… have caught 10+ fish on one TRD many times. …and guaranteed the fish will throw it up if swallowed because it tastes like a turd lol…

You misunderstood. I wasn’t calling you “that guy”. I was agreeing with you. I meant that the typical social media user will call you or I “that guy” if we try to encourage people to use correct terms.  In fact my post even starts off with "Agree!".

Sorry, my bad.  I read that completely wrong.  My apologies.  I get a little touchy with Senko misinformation.  It’s fine to call all stick baits Senkos but if you are going to criticize, you need to be brand specific since there are differences.  Again, sorry.

It has gotten better but at a few of the lakes I fish, it was not uncommon years ago to catch a bass with a mouthful of Senkos. I would always see guys throwing used soft plastic in water and the bass would just swallow them. I'm not sure if it was killing them but it was definitely not helping their overall health.

Its for this reason and I can't say for sure which lakes in Japan do this but all soft plastic is banned on them, with exception of lures made from natural sources,  like pork.

Ha, true... I actually learned the history of naming it that first hand from the guy that gave its moniker. Not creepy, but funny, and it stuck.  Will tell you sometime ..

No problem!  I actually edited to fix my wording because it was poor. I appreciate it.
