Two largemouths together on one lure!!! How often does this happen???

Featured Replies

Early yesterday (Sunday) morning; a large sunken island directly out in front of my house. Made a nice, quiet 'no-splash' pitch with my 5 inch Bomber Long-A into a narrow channel between heavy cattails. Within one second a large boil, and big splashes.

Playing the fish toward my little rowboat, it seemed to want to go in different directions. Until I saw it clearly (the early morning sun blinded me at first). It was actually TWO fish together one the one lure, plus there were about 5 - 6 other good-sized bass swirling closely around them - an incredible sight!

I landed the fish(s) safely. One was 2.42 lbs, the other slightly smaller. The larger bass had taken the tail hook, the smaller was hooked by the front hook. Both fairly hooked.

I've fished hard all my life ( I'm 75) in England and Wales; and later in Canada, the N/E USA and Florida, but NEVER have I ever hooked two fish one one lure! Could this be an ***???

How many others may have had this unusual experience???

Let's hear it guys. . .

Its happened to me a few times in my life, with both smallies and largemouth.

It happened to me 3x in one two-day tournament recently. Never had it happen before that day.(also had a catfish on a crankbait). They were small 2 to 1 lbers.

The third time both fish were much larger and the tail end one shook off at the net and took the rear treble hook with it.

Some baits are really good for catching doubles, minnow like lures catch doubles quite oftleny for me.

if i wouldve had a crankbait or trailor hook it wouldve happened to me.  once i was fishin some strip mine ponds and had a hit on a spinner bait. as i was reeling i noticed 2 other bass nipping at the bait!  it was a great sight 8-)

Hah! Small potato's!!

I once caught nine bass on one Rapala floater! I was hoping for the slam, but two were largemouth.

Iv'e seen it happen but it has never happened to me and I hope someday it may because it looks like a lot of fun!!!

The spotted bass in Lake Keowee travel in schools like ocean fish and when they start feeding on a school of baitfish, it is not unusual to have more than one fish caught at a time!  It's really fun when the fish are several pounds each!

I personally think it would be insane if someone caught a largemouth and a smallmouth on one lure

Yes it is. You are being smiled upon, for all that time you've spent on the water. Time to bask in the glory of NO MORE FISHLESS DAYS! From now on a bad day will be only ONE fish on your lure. You've earned it.

Ah...we can only hope. I've fished hard too, but only have 40 years in.

X2!

It happens to me all the time in the summer when I'm throwing crank baits, especially on Table Rock. I caught these 2 a few years back, and oh what a surprise that was.

I think KVD used to use a rig with two flukes, and he would catch two bass at once a lot when thrown with schooling bass

I have caught 2 on a lure before both fresh and salt.  Try a drop fly rig and very possible 2 catch 2 on the same rod, 2 baits.

Lat year in the ocean I get a bonita strike, split second later my buddy gets one as well, we both pull in the same fish on separate rods, only time that has happened to me.

Happens all the time with rattletraps and topwaters when the fish are schooling.

Happened one time for me.  My last trip to Brazil.  a 12 lb peacock and a 13.

Cool pic!

;D ;D

Happens sometimes with treble hooks.  But, the real question is "How often does this happen with a single hook?"  It happened to me once, and once to my friend.  Both of us lost one of the fish, before landing them, though.
