This sounds like a pretty good idea. I don't think it would be fair to put a boater against a shore fisherman.

Not a bad idea IMHO, maybe post your photos and weights in the "Fishing Location Section" (not random threads, but one for each state or country) of the site and have someone assigned as representative in all 50 states and international countries to keep a record of the fish caught. Top five fish wins. Maybe an extra for lunker. Ice out to ice in, for those of us that experience that, otherwise calender year.

we should compete size, and not weight. As I have experienced that different brand of scale can impact the weight of the fish. I have used two different scales to weight the same fish, and I got two different weight...

If you want it to be fair, you'll have to add some parity. The AMI calculator would be one method.  State records are what's been used in the past.  And don't over complicate it.

If you want it to be fair, you'll have to add some parity. The AMI calculator would be one method. State records are what's been used in the past. And don't over complicate it.

Not to mention the words fisherman and honesty don't always go together. There is some other site that holds weeky online tournaments. You register, get a # which needs to be in the pic with the fish along with a measuring tape. That prevents you from pulling pics from elsewhere or using old pics. I think you'd have to use the AMI calculator as someone else said different scales may read differently.

It's not fair to put a boater against a non boater. The person with the boat can access a lot more water than a shore fisherman.

...and a guy with a $50,000 bass boat with SI/DI has an advantage over someone with a 12' jon boat with a 25lb thrust TM. ...and a guy who has the ability to fish everyday has an advantage over weekend warriors. ...and live bait out produces artificial. ...and private waters out produce public waters. ...and so on.

If shore fishing was just as good as boat fishing, the Pro's would shore fish at the Classic. If you have a boat you can access alot more water, and have a better chance of catching fish, let alone big fish if you can travel the whole lake, and fish the middle of it.

October of 2009. My buddy is shore fishing in sideways rain during a 'Noreaster (we can debate his sanity later) He pulls a LMB that could have been a new state record. Half a mile through the woods on foot, no way to keep the fish alive. He released it.

Don't tell me you need a boat to catch quality fish. What do most guys do when they finally get out on the water ? Beat the bank.

No one is saying that you need a boat to catch quality fish, you have a better chance of doing so.

Not all shoreline is accessible by foot , but it is by water. This isn't my contest though, so do whatever you want.
