  1. you might be about to go into the cabelas and find a combo spooled. pick it up and play with it. most baitcasters with at least 5 bearings will give good service.
  2. thats a good question. might be a taxes thing, i dunno.
  3. i would first try yahoo or google for your area and start making phone calls. once you decide how much weight you will want to pull with the car the shop can suggest a receiver/hitch. some kits are made so holes dont have to be drilled for the install, if youre a handy guy you might think about doing the install yourself, if youre not 100% sure you might hire out the install.
  4. things ive read states running a higher octane doesnt make a difference and sometimes decreases performance. i run 87 octane every time.
  5. depending on how your explorer is set up you might try using low range in the transfer case to back the boat in. this can be done if you have lock-in lock-out hubs. just dont lock the hubs in and switch over to 4X4 low.
  6. http://cgi.ebay.com/ABU-GARCIA-REVO-STX-6-4-1-BAITCAST-REEL-NIB-11-BEARING_W0QQitemZ270230495899QQihZ017QQcategoryZ36146QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem an item worth watching if nothing else.
  7. that is looking very nice. i think guys enjoy being in the boat even more knowing they made the boat from scratch.
  8. ive tried braid a few times and the problem i have is one little backlash and i end up cutting all the line off. im just not good enough to use the braid.
  9. lol.............i thought i had the only wife who did that. i would have never admitted it though without someone else bringing it up.. i think it was long mike who made the crate with the rod holders/depth finder all in one. he should patten that thing.
  10. im not sure what season it was but i remember watching thinking just let him jump............lol.
  11. yes. i have used with great success a heavy extension cord and what i did was buy the cord and another cord end. if i bought another end like whats in link #1 i would wire that onto the trolling motor, leaving the female end still on the extension core. route the cord back to battery and cut off the un-needed male end and strip the cord back to be able to connect the wired to the battery. then all you have to do is plug in the trolling motor and go. p.s. i like to wire female ends into the trolling motor so a mistake isnt made and the trolling motor doent meet 110 volt wall outlet. either works great. #1 http://www.hammerzone.com/archives/elect/accessories/ext_cord/end1/elexcd32.JPG
  12. any wire that matches or exceeds the factory wiring can be routed from thefront to the back.
  13. id skip smithville, i read a thread in the tournay forum and a guy stated they just had a tournay there and the fishing was hard. i went by cedar lake today and the water is real muddy even for that place. kill creek or SMP for the kansas guys might not be the worst idea, i dont have a clue for the mo ppl. muddy or not im thinking of hitting cedar lake if i can find a 2nd to help load/unload the boat.
  14. i fished for many years out of a 14' V-bottom with a 9 hp motor on the back and a trolling motor on the front. most of these type boats will handle bigger lakes and 3 ppl with some gear. these are a bit cheaper than the glass boats. another boat i think is a great boat is the tracker pro-17. theres a ton of these out there and if you look youll find a few worth buying. good luck with the boat youre going to look at.
  15. anyone watch this show? i got hooked on it a few seasons ago and have to watch it now. what we call ruff water and what they call ruff water is a bit different...........lol
  16. as a re-tired auto mech., i spent most of my pay check to the tool man. as soon as all my tools were paid for i quit due to the fact that the cost was too high. snap-on is a very high qual. tool but looking back the only tool that made a difference were the snap-on wrenches. S*K sockets/wratchets are as good and cost a lot less. any good tool should last forever as long as its just used for what it was made for.
  17. http://www.mikesreelrepair.com/schematics/Motorguide/Battery%20Wiring/WIRING_BATTERIES.pdf thats a good on-line diagram
  18. what make and model are you getting? is it a straight 12 volt unit?
  19. i dont know if i read it here or another forum but as the story goes a person fell over-board fishing in cold water and clung to his motor and trimmed it up to get back in the boat. id never thought of that until i read that.
  20. my brother has one and i like it. its hard to tell bait fish from fish fish but its better than dipping the tip of your rod down into the lake to see how deep you are.
  21. the type you go swimming to get when you get hung up in the wrong spot. ;D ;D
  22. ive never had a problem with ebay. you do however need to spend some time on ebay to make sure you are buying what you think youre buying. i like ebay.
  23. thats the problem, theres no room in the splash.
  24. ya i just dont know enough about the system to mess with it. i see no other way to even drive the cable out without removing the motor. its going to the shop where they get to fix all the scratches that a person like me would put in the boat working on it.
