  1. Nice your fishin' buddy let you hold his fish!
  2. You get the run of a lake around here on a Monday. I like fishing weekdays, too.
  3. I use the King Shad with the lip. It's a good bait. I've been lucky in that I bought them when they first came out but haven't broken one, yet. The painted baits chipped easily. Otherwise, they have a good action and I like them a lot. I fish mine on a medium heavy bait caster. I have a couple of MH All Star American Classic spinnerbait rods that have a little bit of a delayed action. These handle King Shads very well.
  4. Walker's Dam (Chick River) on the river side was bank to bank boats. You could see herring coming up through the fish ladder and occassionally over the spillage on the dam itself. I fished the lake today. I caught two Hickory Shad on small crankbaits. Jumping little bastids.
  5. Two Hickory Shad today on a Daiwa Shad SP.
  6. You can't go wrong with an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur, but I think you have to go to a 6500 size to get the bait clicker. Whatever you do, though, avoid the new Abu Garcia BCX reel. It's garbage with a capital G, unworthy of the Abu Garcia name.
  7. I once caught a bass that big on a beetle spin.
  8. The ***-end on my boat sticks up a little, too. But not that much. It will catch the wind, though. I always keep my motor in the water which keeps me from twirling around.
  9. I bought some when they were first introduced and still have everyone I ever bought. Never broke a one (paint chips off easily, though). I've caught bass, a couple of stripers and nearly an osprey with these baits.
  10. My Revos pull my heaviest duty anymore. I have an S on both my flippin' rod and my carolina-rig rod. My STXs are on my frog rod, and on my heavy spinnerbait rods.
  11. I like Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Everytime I fish it I am sold a little more.
  12. They do sink, but they don't stay sunk when you retrieve them. They tend to rise on the retrieve. If you retrieve them fast with your tip up, they will run on the surface. If you retrieve them slowly with your rod tip down, you can keep them underwater. The fast sink will run deeper than the slow sink.
  13. I'm 6'4" and 300lbs. My 1548 long transom is everything I need.
  14. Shorty Doowap.
  15. I miss Muddy, too. Saying that made me feel all weird.
  16. I have mine on a 6'6" medium/medium-fast rod. I concur its a great cranking reel.
  17. I had two EXT Pros. I sold them both. Not because they were bad reels, but because I just like the feel of a low profile better. The EXT Pros are very good reels. They are somewhat modelled on the Morrums, but much more affordable. They are good casters. They will cast light baits reasonably well. They will cast heavier bait really well. It's an excellent spinnerbait reel. The drag is more than adequate for bass fishing. They are smooth. What else to say? I liked them very much. I see they had been deeply discounted at Tackle Warehouse so if they have any left they were really good deals, too.
  18. That's a sweet looking rig! Nice play on the Ford badge.
  19. That frog picture is great! ;D
  20. He didn't say he just bought it, he says he has one. Maybe he just bought it, or maybe he's thinking of replacing it. Logan, I looked up the reel and it seems like a decent little reel. I've never used one but Pinnacle has a decent reputation. It should be a serviceable reel if you take care of it (all reels regardless of cost require that). As far as the rod goes, I'd need to know a little more. It's a 6' medium? Rod of that length and power can be used for various techniques, small crankbaits, topwater lures, light plastics. Look at the lure weight recommendations on the rod. As for the the 8lb line, I use 8lb on one of my 6'6" medium baitcast rods. I use it for, like I said above, light cranks, topwaters, etc. Is your rig a bass rig? It is if you catch bass on it. Fish it, enjoy it, use it within its limits and it should be fine. Read some articles on this website, and soon you'll be yearning for more equipment to handle heavier applications.
  21. That's an incredible deal. I think i get a good deal when I buy them for ~$109. Here... http://www.greentophuntfish.com/ (Note: Greentop is just going on-line so hardly any of there stuff actually shown on their website. You can call them for a price and they will ship it to you. Great prices and great service.)
  22. I have that rod. It's the GT70MH model. I have 5 other HMGs as well. The HMG is an outstanding rod. That particular rod is light, and extremely sensitive. I've used mine for various applications including c-rig, heavy t-rigs, some jigs, heavier spinnerbaits, wakebaits, and smaller swimbaits. But it really excels where you need sensitivity. I've never fished a Compre, but I've fished a Crucial and I think the HMG is superior with respect to sensitivity. That's also consistent with most posts I've read from others that have used both. In fact most people, from posts I've read, that have fished the Avid and the HMG find them very comparable. I've fished a Avid that was similar to my GT66M (6'6" medium) and they felt virtually the same. Given the price, the HMG represents a better value. HMG's are covered by a lifetime Warranty. I did manage to break my first 7' MH. But the store where I bought it administered the warranty. I walked in with a broken rod and walked out with a new one. The HMG is a graphite rod. The Carbon Veil is described in this Tackle Tour review. BTW, HMGs use Fugi Hardloy guides now, not Berkleys. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewfenwickhmg.html
  23. Blue Catfish kitten on a DD22.
  24. I saw a small blow-up right next to a bulkhead near the boat ramp where I was fishing. Lots of little baitfish were there. Not sure if it was a bass, pickerel or something else.
