Good all around rod for less than 100$$???
My friend's girlfriend is looking to buy him a rod for 100$ tops for christmas and I said let me ask the experts. He likes to fish plastics the most but would be best off with something that would be good all around. Thanks Cory

Picking new rod, help
I think I will drop reelmech a line and see what he has going on. I'll also see if I can find a shop that carries dobyns to see how they feel. Thanks for the good ideas everyone. Cory

New at making jigs
Football heads do well in rocks and arky or poison tail would be better suited for brush, timber, grass

genetic flaws?
Maybe a bad hunter? Are all fish equally smart, aggressive? Might it have been an old fish? It is puzzling. You get a feel for how filled out the fish are for the lake, time of year, location, and then a long thin one gets thrown in there that makes you say what if.

Finding "hard" to find lures
I had searched local tackle shops, dick's, BPS, online BPS...for something not that out of the ordinary. A husky jerk 12 glass ghost. Nothing crazy. Not outlandish. Just nowhere to be found until today.

Finding "hard" to find lures
Does anyone else find lures when they're done for the year that they can't find during?

My friend took a 7 point and gave me the tail...
Yeeeaaah... I don't know if this is the right place to post but it's a start. My friend took a 7 point white tail last weekend and gave me the tail to make jigs out of. This is the whole tail, bone and all. I put it in a ziplock and threw it in the freezer until I can figure out what to do. So what do I do to make the tail sanitary and the hair usable? Thanks Cory N

Advice for new baitcaster
The citica 200 does come in a left model. Why the heck the 100 doesn't, beats me. I love the 200 all the same. My only complaint is that it is a tad on the heavy side at 9.9 oz. Some guys love the revo's and some trade them in for citicas and curados. Your backlash with lighter baits could be a few things. My guess is that your rod is to heavy for the lure. Good Luck!

new reel time....
I have a revo s and a citico 200 (both lefty). My vote is for the citica.

Zara Spooks
IMO topwater is about size, action, and color contrast. Clear/reflective, white, yellow/orange, black. Pick what you like. my favorite is black with a white strip the width of a pencil on the belly. It's my friends and I haven't been able to find it anywhere, but man could it catch fish. I also like a feather dressed rear treble.
-
bandit cranks?
If you go with bandit, upgrade the hooks. I was fishing a tourney with a friend and he caught two fish on one treble, the smaller of the two (weighed a pound tops) broke off one of the hooks. Bombers and Normans are a little nicer IMO.

Attention AVID!!! Owner Riggin Hooks
For horny toads, I still have to go with the Owner twist lock. Strong, sharp, and prolongs the life of the bait. I really like the rig'n for thick bodied plastics. My friend uses the 1/0 for whacky worms and nose hooking flukes, works better for him than the octopus style hook.

explaining jigging
While we're on tackle... Medium to Heavy rod with fast - extra fast tip 6'6, most likely longer. A higher speed reel with good gears is a plus. Let's you pick up slack in a hurry or pull the fish out of the nasty. Use the heaviest pound test with the lowest stretch as possible. Straight braid 30lb +, braid with a flouro leader, straight flouro 15lb , co-polymer. As texan said, you need to pounce on strikes. They aren't going to hold onto the jig long, there's usually a weed guard and then their mouth, maybe some small branches, to bust through. You can really swing, it's awesome. Having stretch in your line gives them more time to spit it. Good luck
