  1. Thanks for all the kind words. I kinda feel like I won the lottery. I am still so thrilled. I can't wait to get back out there.
  2. I caught my first fish on a jig w/ a gambler flappin daddy trailer today. Man, I am stoked. I flipped it across a little backwater spot on Tappan lake here in Ohio, and bam, my line just started running away. I set the hook and reeled in a nice 17 inch largemouth bass. I do not know what he weighed, but as far as fish I have caught, he was pretty nice. I did have a powerbait chigger craw for a trailer, but was not getting any bites, so I switched. I debated for awhile, bigger or smaller, and finally opted for bigger since it was about 3 pm. I cast into that general area five or six times. Thanks for listening. I am not sure I am gonnna be able to sleep tonight.
  3. Thanks ghoti. I appreciate the explanation. Many of the websites for various companies do not explain how their brake systems work. Thanks again.
  4. Reelmechanic??? can anyone explain this to me please???
  5. Can someone explain to me the difference among reels using tandem cast control??? I know some reels use magnets for all the braking (abu garcia sx, stx, sc, etc). I also know that some reels use centrifugal at the beginning and magnets to help slow the spool at the end (shimano, pflueger). What about a reel like the quantum energy or cabelas tournament zx high speed. They have a dial on the left hand and a magnetic control button on the cranking side ( I am right handed and crank with my right hand). These reels do not have the centrifugal brakes that you manually adjust like my citica, are they still centrifugal???? Can you turn the brakes completely off??? Thanks
  6. Nobody has owned one for a couple years?? hoping to see how well they held up. Thanks
  7. has anyone owned a ZX for a couple years or so?? how have they held up?
  8. Anyone have any experience with this reel?? I am not sure who makes it for cabelas. Thanks
  9. Thanks to all who answered. I hope we catch some fish on them. If not, my daughter will still like hers because it has purple in it. It could only be better if it was pink!.
  10. Thanks to all who replied. I have a citica but have not had a chance to fish it. I want the curado for the high speed retrieve. Hopefully, before the rebate runs out I can get a power version as well. Thanks especially to those who answered who have fished both.
  11. anyone try these? i bought one for myself and a baby dancin' eel for my daughter and fishing buddy. She especially liked hers because it had some purple on it. I saw them on the TV show " people who fish". I hope I didn't get suckered, but it doesn't really matter because my daughter is happy with hers.
  12. I am going to Bass Pro to look at these two reels. I can get either for 100.00 bucks or so after rebates et all. I am looking at the 7:1 gear ratio on both. Anybody fish both that can offer some insight? I got a citica for Christimas but here in Ohio the weather has prevented me from hauling in bass after bass with it. I would like opinions from folks who have fished both these reels but would welcome input from anyone who has either. Thanks.
  13. I found this on the net and it looks pretty nice. I was thinking of getting one myself to help with my bank fishing travels. Anyone own one of these? http://www.polepack.com
  14. Thanks to all who answered. I did hang them by the tip on a small metal hanging hook(it is plastic coated). The reels are off the rods. I thought I read that is was ok, but then I got worried that I would somehow be damaging the last guide. Thanks again.
  15. I have tried the search function and came up with nothing. How do you guys store your rods and reels....over the winter and also from week to week during the summer?? is it ok to hang just the rod with a little hook going thru the tip??? thanks for your help.
  16. ok, I will bite. Who makes rods for BPS and who makes the quest rods for Dick's??? Does this place make all Bps rods, or just some of the lower end ones???
  17. I am wondering about the differences in the types of line guides. I know you have fuji aluminum oxide, hardloy, and alconite. What are the differences and how do they make your rod more sensitive??? Thanks
  18. The sale is limited to instock items only. However, the Wheeling store was able to check with the warehouse and get me the one rod I wanted. I just had to drive a half mile to the distribution center and pick it up. The transaction was handled thru customer service dept. in the store.
  19. I have been saving some Christmas money for the right occasion. I went to Cabelas today, and found their XML line of rods on sale for 59.00! That is 80.00 off.
  20. there is a screw on my new reel and it is listed as the maintenance port on the rather unimpressive manual that came with the reel. What is this for??? thanks
  21. Thanks. You Da Bassman!. Appreciate the info.
  22. Thanks Pfluemis. The closest one to me is 3 hours away, but I think a couple of friends and I will be making the journey. Just need to find some more info so we can plan when we want to be there. Apparently, they have seminars and lots of sales.
  23. I am looking for the Bass pro shops classic? I think that is the correct name. It is a big sale where I guess you can trade a fishing reel in and get money off a better one? Can someone provide details? What are the dates? I can't find it here but know it was posted before. Also, I can find nothing about in on the bass pro website. Thanks.
  24. I bought it new, but I spent some time checking out the reels they have at Cabelas to "test spin". Anyway, the clerk hands me the box and I take it up front , pay, and leave. Now I am 75 miles and 10.00 worth of gas away. Chalk this one up to a Life Lesson. I will try the oil in the maintenance port. No go. It sounds like something is catching. When you turn the crank, the noise gets worse the harder you crank. the one at cabelas was silent when cranking.
  25. Hey Sam. Thanks for the input. You are right. Just a reminder to everyone that they should inspect what they buy before they leave. Thanks again for putting a positive spin on things.
