Whats up guys, I had to vent a bit here. Yesterday in the evening after a long day of the "honeydo" list, I was able to get to a local farm pond. I was able to land 6 fish, all under 1lb. Nothing photo worthy. So around 7pm I saw a massive swirl, on the other side of the pond. I tied on a #5 Black Fury, (black/white dots) and hurl it out far as I can. 2 turns of my reel and its fish on, I mean big fish. All I could think is "dont jump, please dont jump" and It was taking line like no ones business. I had the fish in over half way to the shore and sure enough, it does come to the surface, and spits my lure back at me like it was making fun. I've been fishing for a long time, and been on this site for some time also and I can say this fish was easily over 8lbs. It was pulling like a freight train, and in an instant, it was over. Needless to say, I threw everything at it but the kitchen sink for over an hour, but she didnt come back for more. So sad. Sorry guys I just had to vent. > I'll definitely be back for her, and I'll keep you posted.

Nice fish there Rondef, nice looking place you have there too. I went out this morning and caught a few dinks. My spot was like chocolate milk and the bite was slow so I packed it up pretty quick. Good to see someone snags some nice fish

Had an awesome time a few weeks back near this place.http://www.frontroyalcanoe.com/ Its not too far from you, maybe 1-1.5hr away. The river was in excellent condition when I was there.

Is it possible to locate and target pickerel? What baits besides the typical bass baits would they hit? I've caught one before and it was a much better fight than I ever realized. Thoughts anyone? Nice big Pickerel there btw!

I did this years ago, fishing the Ashburn Village lakes. We were out in the middle and lost it all. It was kind of scary at the time, but we got through it and are alive and well, and thats all that counts. On the other hand like Jason said, its a good laugh. My buddy and I still laugh out loud about it whenever we go out. ;D

Great story, sorry for the bad luck. I've definitely had similar days on the water. Sometimes nothing seems to go right. Rondef, I like the checklist idea. These days I'm taking so many things that this may be a good idea from now on.

Thanks for the replies fellas. Such a great time. Almost spiritual. I'd give anything to be right back where I was this time yesterday. The river is a bit grassy, but perfectly clear, and easily manageable. The bite started slow, but got better as the morning went on. I'm going to try an evening wade next. Rod, we waded the Front Royal area of the main stem of the river at the Low Water Bridge (Bentonville). Check out that link I gave you in that other thread, they should be able to give you all the info you need. Good luck.
