Naw that isnt the problem you could have just gotten heavier Spiderwire I have 65lb power pro on one of my spinning rods just for that same reason. You could go back there with lighter line and a Mepps#4 though and try to finesse that fish It's rough but you still got a lot of fishing left in ya ;D cough...cough...Hahah, jk. Ya never know though!

Hey thanks Senko! Yea man, it was on the ultra-light, with a small lightweight 1/8oz buzz on 4lb test. Definitely one of the best fights I've had in recent memory. I was saying in the other forum, it was on a new Ugly Stik Lite UL, and it was very impressive. It hauled her in with relative ease. My normal UL rod is an All Star. Theres no way it would have put it to the fish like the ugly stick did. Thanks again bro.

Whats up guys, I normally post in the Southeast forum, but I'm very proud of this catch so I decided to post it up here too Last Sunday I finally had a chance to go out in the evening with a buddy. After catching a few fish under a pound, we decided to throw top water. So we start fishing some buzzbaits, and I decided to switch up to my ultra-light rig to have some more fun. Well, I after a few casts, my buddy says he sees something big coming in fast from an adjacent shoreline, coming right for my 1/8oz white/chartruse buzzbait, I cant tell you how awesome the explosion was. She fought way hard, and she totally bent the heck outta the buzzbait. It was awesome to land her, she went 5lbs 4oz, easily my second PB. Thanks for looking guys, hope you're catching em too.

Thanks J, yea, i was workin the mepps stuff to start, caught a few and switched up. Senko slims worked also, then finally went to topwater. We'll definitely have to hook up. I'm in the obx this weekend, starting thursday, but I'll hit you up when I get back.

Yea, this was definitely my largest topwater fish, aside from saltwater. It was a pretty wild fight, especially on the Ugly Stik ultralight w/4lb test. I tell ya, the rod did make pretty short work of the fish. I was very impressed. Thanks for the kind words fellas.

I've had more this year than ever before. Kinda wierd. I do find myself pond-hopping in remote grassy areas lately, so its probably pretty normal.

My wifes grandfather has a cabin on the lake, what an nice place to fish, though I've only been there twice. Looks like you guys hammered 'em.

Went to Beaverdam yesterday after work for one hour. I fished the shoreline and was totally skunked. > Fish were jumping everywhere, and I couldn't even get a bite. :-?
