  1. OK here goes. For the last 30 years I have been using Marvel Mystery oil. It is now known as Marvel Lubricating oil. Just a drop. It can be purchased at most auto supply stores. I have a 4oz. bottle that is over 5 years old. I have never replaced a bearing, and I give em all hell. More gears, pals, and springs than I can count. I am aware that it is a penetrating oil but I will not use anything else. I have tried so many different kinds I lost track early on. I know I get a lot more distance with it than anything I ever used before. I need to add that I bench my reels at least every six months whether they need it or not and I buy very few replacement parts other than the normal wear and tear. The gears...I use MPC PL-10 Power Lift (assembly & all purpose grease). The only draw back is the 6mo. benching, but I really don't mind as you can head off trouble in advance. Never lost a set of gears either(Other than wearing them out). And that's not often. Two things I will not do...Dip a reel in water or spray it with a water hose. Big mistake!!!P.S. Reelmechanic has probably bumped his head from falling off his stool and will shortly chastize me for ruining good reels but it works for me. One last thing. Everyone that is using Reel Majic ...It's for fishing line not reels. Stop it!!!
  2. A commerical stripper will do the job. Just use gloves and a mask in a well ventaliated area.
  3. It is a good unit. When you get it, read the manuel, take if off automatic, and set it up to your personal specs. You will get so much more out of it.

    Here they come John.
  5. Hot Sauce is nothing special. There are a lot of better things out there to use.
  6. Cowboys by 8. I have the NFL network on my cable system. Houston and Dallas switched providers (Comcast/Time Warner)in January. Wonder how Dallas likes Time Warner now...
  7. I am giving mine a paid vacation to Guntersville in March. Actually she's staying in Gatlinburg Tenn. The week we are up there. It's her favorite place.
  8. Hungry Kitty Kats...
  9. Catt you are absolutely right. November through April are the best of times. The flats close to the deeper holes are right on. Lucky for us most of the weekend anglers are beating the banks. They never pressure the right areas.
  10. You guys can complain about the winters all you want. How would you like 95-105 for a high for four consecutive months and a low around 80 during the summer. It is just about unbearable. Not to mention the 500.00 monthly electric bills. And 95% humidity to go with it...
  11. Gulp is probably the only new bait I never spent a dime on. I was tempted but never did. After reading all the post I guess I made the correct decision.
  12. I use the Bill Dance Advantage. It has small chains on it that will grab the hooks and works very well. Sells for about 15.00 but will pay for itself in a hurry. Looks a lot like the one in the picture above. Just run it down the line and pump it up and down until you grab a hook and it will come up. I keep mine on an old fly reel.
  13. I fish a heavy rod with braid in the Hydrilla. When you stick a fish the braid will cut through the grass like a knife and keep him from balling up. The purpose is to stick him, keep his head up, and get him moving toward you immediately otherwise he is tied up and gone. Usually use 65lb. braid
  14. I think I will keep it. I spooled the reel this morning and it is pretty smooth even with just two bearings. I do think it has been used in saltwater as the spool had a large pitted section eaten out of the lip. I replaced the spool and the gears and it seems to work great here in the yard. Might be another story on the lake. We'll see. If I don't care for it I will let you know. We will work out something if you want the rod
  15. It was 30.00 for both as a combo. I just looked it up. If this rod is 159.00 I guess I did OK. Think I will hang on to it. Thanks for the web address
  16. Like maybe John Parker Wilson...
  17. Dave I cannot see any other markings on the rod. The stenciling is in blue if that helps. Guess I will try it out on something and see how I like it. The combo was for 30.00, guess it was not to bad after all. Thanks
  18. Grimlin I was told it was a 1994 model. I fish a lot of Curados, guess I will try it out on something or just set it on the shelf with the others. The guy I bought the parts from said he had never seen one with a ratio like this one. Any other info?
  19. Well the season is winding down. Who is the most overrated coach out there today? I will start it with Nick Saban. Let's here your's.
  20. I have both. Havn't had the Revo long enough to see how it will hold up. You cannot go wrong with the Curado though.
  21. Another thing I failed to mention. I also bought a Castaway JT66 rod for 15.00 at the same shop. All of my rods are Allstar, Falcon, or American Rodsmith. Anything to this rod. It was attached to the above reel. Thanks
  22. I bought one in a pawn shop this morning for 15.00. It needed a new spool(pitted bad) and when I checked the gear ratio I came up with about 3:8.1. I purchased a new set of gears to bring it up to 6:3.1. I was not aware that these reels came with a gear ratio that low. Anyone else have any info as to what I actually bought? It only has two bearings and says CI-200 on it. I now have alittle over 55.00 in this real. Did I throw my money away or what? Is it worth what I spent rebuilding it?
  23. Diawa Steez combo please. I had an opportunity to examine one yesterday. Awsome is not good enough. That combo was the lightest thing I have ever put in my hand.
