B.A.S.S. Pro's race one another....
It was a bad decision (Among the many other bad choices that were made back then) to even attempt to put this out there. Rich kid in Daddy's boat..."Hold My Beer and Watch This", comes to my mind. If you are gonna race, race! If you're gonna fish, fish!

Quick Question About Navionics Mapping Chips
Yes you can. Just don't try to load it onto a computer or copy it for someone else. It has copywrite security and will render it useless. Jack

Lake Fork 15.69lb bass caught and released
Lots of large fish caught and released without ever notifying the parks and wildlife department. Lot of people would rather release them instead of turning them over and taking the chance that they would not be returned to the lake.

I had Hawg for Thanksgiving...
Nice fish. I just knew I was going to see a pic of a 500 pounder with tusks when I read the title.

Winter Bass in Texas
I was in Dallas for the week. You're right, it was cool in the mornings, but warmed up quickly. I hit the Garland BPS on Lake Ray Hubbard at 6:45 Friday morning and did not walk out until 11:05. I'd tell you how much I spent, but I'm afraid the wife would see it. Two things I did buy was the XPS rain jacket that they had on sale for 59.84(Regularly 90.00+) and one of the zip up tournament jackets with a hood for 19.95(39.95). I thought both of those were good buys. I took the boat with me, but never put it in the water.

Fishfinder-GPS combo
Internal is just what it says. The antenna is built into the unit. If you go this route do not mount it in the dash or any other area that will block the signal. The external antenna has a puck type antenna that you can mount anywhere on the boat. It connects to the back of the unit just like the power cable or the transducer cable. If you are using the remote antenna and go with a Lowrance they recommend that you mount the antenna at least three feet from the unit to cut down on interference. Not sure about Humminbird, but Lowrance units like the 522c/igps can use either antenna. You just have to go in, turn off the internal, and change the setting to use the external antenna. Good luck, Jack

1996 Mercury 150HP pee water ???
When I mentioned screen I was not referring to a wire mesh. Maybe a bad choice of words. There is a plate just inside the entry openings. Sorry for the confusion. I have a lower unit sitting here that I am going to put seals and bearings in this morning. I will try to take some pics during the tear down and post them up if that will help you.

Misery loves company?
Dock talk is not to be relied on. If I want or need informantion and cannot figure it out I will go to only a hand full of trusted sources. Otherwise I'm not paying any attention to any of it.

I run Lowrance units and turn them off when I'm up fishing shallow water. Not sure if it makes a difference, but I always do it just to be safe.

1996 Mercury 150HP pee water ???
While you have the poppet valve apart you might want to check the diaphragm very carefully for pin holes. It is very common for it to have them. As I stated above, check to see if the seat has floated out of the block. It happens so look for that. Jack

Seno hook size
I like a larger hook. I fish it on a Mustad EWG 5/0 thin wire and have found that I actually tear them less with the larger hook. JMO. Jack

Are there smallies in Ray hubbard
Tournament is out of the Dalrock ramp on the north side of the interstate just east of the Bass Pro shops store. Take the Dalrock exit and do a loop around. turn right just before you reenter the freeway. Ramp is on the left. You cannot miss it. We will be fishing the rock and drops with plastics, jigs, and cranks. Will get with the wife to finalize the trip today and verify that we will be there in time to fish(It's a 5 hour tow from my home). If I see we are going to be close on time I can get the wife's sister to meet us at the ramp and pick her and the dogs up. My phone number is 281 224-8853. Jack

What state has the most BR members?
The capitol of Texas is "Timbuktu", but I don't believe California has a capitol. ;D Roger I thought their capitol was sold while in foreclosure.

what do you like about bass fishing
The competition and seeing if I can outsmart a stupid green, finny creature on a regular basis. And no I can't usually.

1996 Mercury 150HP pee water ???
It's round Located low on the drivers side of motor Pull the cover and clean it. It is nothing more than a bypass. At times the thermostats cannot cool an engine when opened completely. The poppet valve allows additional water circulation to aide in cooling. The poppet seats have been known to float out of the block. Check to make sure this has not happened.
-
1996 Mercury 150HP pee water ???
Well if it concerns you that much, change out the thermostats with a lower temperature rating, or swap the gauge out to see how they compare. About the only thing that will change the temps (if )everything else is in order. Just remember, what is hot to your hand may not be hot to the motor. You can cool it down too much and do damage as well. The guys that run the Optimax engines are well aware of an issue referred to as "cold seize". Your electronics are programed to specific temp settings among other things. When you make one change it usually affects many others Have you checked to see if one cylinder head is a lot hotter than the other? Could be one side or the other if there really is an overheat issue. Just get it checked out and then you will know. Too many variables to try for an internet board diagnosis.
