I use the wire tie. It seems to me that the wire tied skirts are held tighter and do not twist around. Also, the wire will not break as easily as a band.

I'm no expert, but it seems to me that the wide gap allows for the use of a larger/thicker trailer without compromising hook setting ability.
  3. They're not going to be as durable as a typical chunk trailer, but then they're different than a typical chunk. I don't find the rage tails to be any less durable than say a paca chunk. If you want a ton of action then you're going to have to sacrifice some durability.
  4. I use the shads when I want to fish a buzzbait but the area has floating weed cover. I use the craws t-rigged and as jig trailers (when I want a ton of action). I also bought some chunks, but won't buy anymore of them because if I want to use a chunk I'll just pinch off most of the body of the craw. I just bought a few packs of the Anaconda and Lizard so I'm not sure how those work.
  5. I would say it varies mostly based upon availability of food. Those first fish that were stocked do not have any competition from bass larger than them so they grow fast.

www.custombassfishinglures.com That's all you'll need for jigs. Great quality at a great price. Plus GMAN is a member here so you're supporting someone from the site!!
  7. We stayed in the Riviera Maya/Mayan Sun Coast/whatever they're calling it now. We stayed at the Aventura Palace. Not much for beaches there, but the pools in the big all inclusive resorts are freaking sweet. We were close to Chichen Itza and a few other ruins that we visited. We went snorkeling in the ocean and in the underground streams (that was a lot of fun). Can't help you on the fishing part of it as I didn't go on my honeymoon and I don't even know what a roosterfish is!
  8. Sangchris has been mentioned and if you're going to be in Springfield then that one's a no brainer. If you're coming up 57 you can stop at Lake Shelbyville for some musky fishing if you're into bigger fish or catch huge numbers of white bass. You can even fish the spillway from shore so this is a cheap option. While in Chicago, I'd go on a salmon trip on Lake MI. I've got a good guy if you're interested. I'm going with him on 7/26.
  9. Decided to reply outside of your earlier PM? Anyways, I know that the pros are less than truthful in what they throw. They have to promote their sponsors product or they won't be sponsored. Perfectly valid statement. However, that's not what you said in your earlier post.
  10. Makes sense, but it seems to me that you're taking a risk of only getting 15 lbs though. What if the weather changes? What if another angler in the tourney moves onto that spot? What if some random other guy sees you catching there and goes back later in the day catching as many as he can? What if your spot actually replenishes and you could've caught 25lbs and then overnight more fish would've moved onto that spot and now you can say catch 15 more lbs (that would give you 40lbs!)? What if, what if, what if? Isn't 25lbs in the livewell better than 15lbs with the hope of another 15lbs the next day?
  11. 6 hours in a car to experience BPS? Not worth it. The experience of BPS is cool. The aquarium is nice and all. Prices are higher than you can get on line so purchases will cost more, plus the cost of gas and time to get there makes it not worth it in my opinion. I'm spoiled in that I drive by a BPS on the way home from work every day.
  12. For sure? You saw every single cast by Ike? Ike's throwing one lure for an entire day? Were you Ike's observer for the day? :
  13. This one. 8-) I only had an hour or two and caught her on the last cast.
  14. I don't get why an angler would "manage" their fish? For example, I've read some comments (on the Classics blog) where pro's won't try and catch all of their fish in one day, sandbag it. What could possibly be the benefit of doing this? If you catch that fish on Day 1 or Day 2 it still goes into your total weight. Plus, if you decide to leave it and the weather turns, someone else catches it, it moves on, etc then it's gone. Anyone have a logical explanation for not catching every pound possible?
  15. I worked in a small hardware store in high school and the one that I'll never forget is a guy wanted to buy 3/8 inch pvc fittings. I showed them to him and he said he thought they looked too big. Then he broke out his tape measure and measured the Outside Diameter of the 1/4 fittings and said they were 3/8". He wouldn't listen to a word I said about how he was getting the wrong size. Went to work the next day and the bag of 1/4" fittings were on the counter waiting to be put back. I've always wondered how he could possibly have done any plumbing without even knowing how to determine the size of the fittings.

You caught me on an overgeneralization!!! Anyways, I think the big "allure" of handpours is what I posted. Now, that doesn't necessarily make it true. Handpouring provides more flexibility in the creation of the bait. They can be softer providing more action. From what I've heard of Joe S's baits this may be the case. His stuff gets really good reviews. Brent you know that I mainly fish your stuff anyways.
  17. Um, no it isn't. Here are some "engineered" fish. http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn4411 http://www.glofish.com/ Seriously, can we work on your posts? What is this even trying to say? How can you possibly make that identification?
  18. How do you say the above and the below in the same post? He's a star BECAUSE he is a great angler (AOY and Classic winner), the fist pumping has nothing to do with that. If he was a mediocre pro, he'd be a nobody.

Berkley and Gambler are two big manufacturers that "imbue" scent into their baits. The softness of the plastic isn't going to have anything to do with it's ability to "retain scent". Handpours are softer and provide more action. If anything this will allow the trailer to have a bit more action than a "conventional" soft plastic trailer of the same shape and size. I don't see how it will effect the scent at all.
  20. I can get these for a pretty good deal, but sometimes you get what you pay for. Anyone have any experience with both the 4" and 6" versions?
  21. Why should Shimano be forced to participate in BPS's youth program? What if they feel that they can get a better impact by supporting youth activities through their own channels? BPS is just ticked that Shimano won't participate in the reel trade in program. I see this as a black mark against BPS and not against Shimano.
  22. No doubt. My two kids (younger than yours) LOVES to play with them. They get the frogs, craws, lizards, brush hogs, etc all lined up. They could play with those things for an hour. I organize most of my tackle while they play with the "extras".

Depending upon what the fish want, I use Paca chunks, rage tail craws, and just regular chunk trailers. When I really want to upsize I'll use something like a Gambler Otter.
  24. If only my work would get out of the dark ages. I can view it at home, but not at work.
  25. It's a ragetail problem, not a bassresource one. I can't see any detail on the ragetail site either.
