  1. I have a problem with the multitude of 30 lbers in this lake. Are they platyng with nature over there?? (genetic experiments etc.) I do not believe this is a natural occurance. If it was, why don't we have that size bass here or elsewhere? No sour grapes. If this is legit, give him the record. He doesn't seem to upset by the tie. He claims he'll break it shortly.
  2. Hey all.. For whoever is interested...... The Worcester Sportsman Show is on the dates above. Mark Zona and Tim Horton will be appearing for seminars. http://www.sportshows.com/ Alan (bassnajr)
  3. jay..... Not ranting at all. I have spoken with many New Englanders and I find that most of the "info" in the books, magazines, on-line articles is tempered for the South. Why not?? You can fish there all year. (lucky stiffs!!) I also find that the lures sold up here, for the most part, don't look like much of the forage we have up here, and the lures that do go quick. Given that "bass fishing is bass fishing" in general, I also find that a shorter fishing season tends to make the northern guys more versatile. A week of 70*+ days followed by five days of 40*- nights stirs things up a bit!! If you are not versatile...stay home!!! I feel for the Florida guys....."a cold front came through and the fish just shut down!!" Try living in new England!!!! Now there's a rant!!!!! ;D
  4. I'll be in contact soon Jack Thanks!!!!!
  5. O.K. Then here is the next question: I was told that using the emulator on your PC, you can plug the Navionics card into your reader I have a reader built into my laptop), and the emulator will act just like the unit on your boat. You can transfer waypoints from unit to card and card to unit. You can enter points via longitude and latitude etc. Is this true? If you can't put the card in a reader, how is this possible? AJR
  6. I am calling Lowrance and Microsoft on Monday. How about this.....is there software (free or paid) out there that can do the same thing that the emulator does? It sounds like MANY folks are having this problem and I find it hard to believe that someone hasn't created something to fix this, even for a price. The Navionics chip package actually says NOT to plug the card into any unauthorized (???) card reader and that it is not PC compatible. I am just getting more confused and aggravated!!!!!! :-/
  7. So... The only way to use your unit is on the boat??? That doesn't seem right. $450.00 for the unit and no on line help?? that suc#%!! I will keep plugging on. I just tried that "compatibility option". No go!!!
  8. Need some help ...... I am attempting to download the emulator for my Lowrance 520 c with no luck. I have windows Vista which seems to be the problem. I keep getting a "NPPtools" error. I followed the directions on Lowrance and Microsoft...neither worked. Lowrance says it is Microsoft s problem and vice versa. Anyone else had this problem, and more importantly, how did you fix it or get around it?? > Thanks, Alan (bassnajr)
  9. Hey all... I was thinking about a new Navionics chip for this year but didn't want to spend big $$$$$! I went out to BPS Foxboro MA today and found that the 2008 and 2009 chips are on clearance. I grabbed the 2009 HotMaps Platinum chip for $140.00 with a $50.00 mail in rebate for turning in my old chip. The 2009 HotMaps Premium chip is $104.00 with a $25.00 mail in rebate if you turn in an old card. The 2008 HotMaps Premium chip is $69.00, and there were a few regular chips at great prices, but not that many left. Just figured I would pass on the info. Alan (bassnajr) PS If you are military, fire, or police, don't forget to let them know at the register for a %10 "appreciation" discount!!!
  10. Glenn, Do we have any sponsors here who may not have a banner that do decals for boats or engine cowls? Or perhaps just a site member?? Thanks, Alan (bassnajr)
  11. You are right Sam... I think the discussion went towards staying away from X-mas trees because of the way the branches are (Too close together I think??) I am thinking about pallets with cinder blocks on all four corners. Then fastening downed limbs off of that horizontal and vertical. It helps that all the ponds here are frozen solid!! Bring your stuff out on the ice, set it up, and leave it for the Spring!! AJR
  12. No not at all!!! I should have been more specific!!!
  13. I have heard of this fishfordollars, Not quite what I was talking about. I believe this is a Pro Staff type job. Anyone can do this if you have good credit. You are a "salesman" for that brand of boat. (I know a guy who had that offer at a BPS near me, but he didn't like the idea of possibly getting stuck with two boats.) For this, Nitro, for example will "appoint" you (for lack of a better word) a member of their "Nitro Pro Staff Team" ad let you put yourself out as such when in effect, you are nothing more than a salesman for Nitro. And if you don't sell the boat, YOU have to buy it. They won't take it back from you. I should have been more specific. For the sake of this thread, lets confine the conversation to baits, rods, reels and they like, small ticket items, either from a grass roots outfit, or a national vendor. Alan
  14. Hey all... Out of pure curiosity, I was wondering, once you have made contact with a potential sponsor (resume etc.) what sort of "deal" is normally struck between the sponsor and sponsoree? Is it tackle or equipment free of charge, or at a reduced price? (10%...20% off??) What do they expect of the sponsored angler? I am sure this is all relative based on the anglers exposure and the size of the company (grass roots VS. established company etc.) Just wanted to pick the brains here. I know many of the members here have sponsors from local companies to national brands. I appreciate any insight.
  15. Welcome to a fellow New Englander Russ!!!!
  16. Catts right on... I would add one thing. I have a pond near me with hydrilla...LOTS!! I really didn't know what to throw. I wanted something I felt they hadn't seen alot of. I grabbed a pack of Shadolicious swimbaits w/ swimbait hooks (different weights for different depths) and went at it. Vary your retrieve speed and depth. Rig them right, and they are mostly weedless. Had success..bigger fish too. Good luck!!! Alan
  17. I'll join in!!! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all on and at bassresource, my home away from home!!! peace to all, and may everyone have a fantastic 2010!!! Alan (bassnajr)
  18. C'mon NH guys...you can do it!!!!!!!
  19. Quick question..... Is this the longest thread in Bass Resource history???
  20. Well, I hate to jump on the band wagon but..... I went to the store to buy a trolling motor. They had a good deal on a Motorguide Pro (80) w/ built in sonar. They didn't have any in stock, but had one sent from another store. 7 days......... They called..it's in. I drive to Foxboro (45 mins.) get there, it's the wrong one. They say take it, use it, we'll get the right one. I say OK. 30 days......... They call...the "right" one is in....come get it, bring the other one back. I take the one off my boat (a PIAT), pack it up, take it back. Drive to Foxboro (45 mins) get there, it's the same one I have..WRONG ONE AGAIN!! They now say only the "Pros" have the one (MG) with the built in sonar, but they are gonna get me a more expensive Minn Kota Maxxum w/sonar. They give me a new Maxxum (no sonar) to use until they can get the one w/sonar in. (different mount than Motorguide MORE holes in my boat). I agree. A week later, they call. They cannot get the Minn Kota with the sonar built in, but when the Motorguide w/ the sonar "becomes available to the public", which I find out it has been for some time, they will get me that one. Just use the Minn Kota for now. This has been going on for 8-10 months. No new Motorguide yet, but I have called the manager EVERY month to remind him I am waiting for the right motor. He promises I will get it. What do you think?? Sorry for the long rant!!!!!! >
  21. I have several of them...different sizes, and if you watch the auctions, you can get them for short money. Caught a few nice ones on them, but never really got into it. Maybe this year!! Good luck!!
  22. Luke, I am your Father!!!

    TRy your local shooting range.....
  25. OK I am putting it out there....... I think the guys that live near an Academy should help the guys who don't have one near them. :-[ I, for one, would be willing to compensate my fellow BR brother who was willing to help me with, oh..say..lures for themselves for their troubles. I'm just saying!!!
