  1. Hey Tony.... For the price, I don't see what the big thing is. I know I'll catch hell for that on here. There are great baits for less money. But.... I am into the bigger swimbaits after the "two-fa" day I had last week. But I do not think that they should be the only lure thrown. I feel there's a time and place for them. I will be throwing them more next year. Good luck, and PM sent!!!! Alan (bassnajr)
  2. You won't always know the age of the poster, but there are many clues, like photos in the avatar, their profile, the way they speak, and what's in the post. Or you could ask. The members here are very good at "profiling" other members (for the positive). As far as the grammar, spelling etc. some folks, regardless of age, may not be as educated as others, or don't care like Muddy and I . It's not hard...BE NICE TO EVERYONE WHO POSTS!!!! That way, you're always safe!! ajr PS Peeps...you guys are whack!!!!!!
  3. Simp, I say we invite the texas and Florida guys up here for some REAL fall fishing!!! ;D Bring your Moodandies guys!!! North or South, fish react differently and are in different areas of a body of water when the water temp. is 60* or below. IMO ajr

Another Texas guy...Damm, I am jealous!!!!! "The stars at night, are big and bright......". Welcome!!! ajr
  5. I am glad to see positive posts coming...I thought I was going to get SLAMMED!!!! ajr
  6. Hey all... Don't know if this is where to post this, but here goes. I have noticed that many members ask questions ranging from what lure to use to how should I fish this time of year. It might help if, when you ask a question or for advice, you say WHERE you are from and describe (briefly) what kind of habitat (pond, lake, creek, river, etc.) you fish in. For the most part, GENERAL bass advice is the same all over. But when you get into specifics, I feel it makes a difference where you are from. Answers given by life long residents of Texas and Florida, as genuine as they may be, may not apply to a diehard Northerner (Rhode Island) like me. Sometimes it leads to arguments (No, not on these posts!! ;D) Some folks make a little note near their avatar as to where they are from?? And, lets be a little nicer to the youngsters....most of you guys on here are veteran bass anglers and they youngsters look up to you all for advice. Snapping, or sarcasm, or mocking really knocks them down. I hate to see that!!! This is all given in good spirit and is IMVHO. As always, I am glad to be a part of this thing that is Bass Resource.com and always appreciate everyones help and comraderie!!!! Alan (bassnajr)
  7. I like that answer Catt!!!!! AndI have learned this mindset VERY quickly!!!!!! ajr
  8. THANK YOU SIMP!!!!!!!! I wish everyone would indicate where in the USA they are fishing, and that the answers are specific to that area. Tin and I were talking and most of the "articles" you read on here and elsewhere are from down South, no help to ME!!! Right now where I am, it's 39* outside, no ice YET, but damm cold. How can a guy from Florida who has never fished Northern waters tell me how to fish the Fall up here?? It's not fair for me to ask, and not fair to try and get an answer. I think Tin should write an article for Bass Resource in his down time about NORTHERN BASS FISHING/FALL BASS FISHING!!! All in favor say "Aye!!!" PS If you are fishing ANY cover ANY time of the year and not catching fish, move to different cover. IMHO Alan bassnajr
  9. I feel that being on the water is the best way to learn and become a better angler alone or with someone else. Bass clubs are another way to learn from others, but the politics can be distracting. Just like any other sport PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!!! AJR
  10. No one's mentioned swimbaits, hollow bodies or ortherwise?????
  11. Hey all... I recently got what I believe is a "score" on E-Bay. Three (3) Daiwa Procyon baitcasting rods, all 7' Heavy action for $99.00 with FREE SHIPPING!!! They are no G Loomis, but I have several, and love them. At this price, the Bait Monkey INSISTED I get all three, so I did. What application would you use these rods for?? I am just looking for some friendly opinions on possible applications. Thanks, Alan (bassnajr)
  12. T-Rig It is an Akita...great baits for the money!! *** now makes a similiar swimbait at a comparable price. Guess I gotta pick up one of those now too!!! Thanks guys for all the rrsponses.. My wife said "Why do you catch them and then throw them back??" and "They smell!!" Good to get some feedback from folks who know what it's all about!!!! ajr
  13. Hey all.... They say the bass season is wrapping up here in the Northeast, but I can't say uncle... It was around 60* today, a little wind, and spitting rain. I could have stayed home and WATCHED fishing shows, or I could go out. I talked myself into going, "Not to many days left!" I told myself. Loaded up the boat and off to the local pond. Tried everything, jig, hollow bellied swimbaits, spinnerbaits, well...you get it. Nothing!!!! Then I remembered I had to large jointed wooded swimbaits; a floter and I sinker. Never used the sinker, so I said "What the hell!!??" After listening to Bassectomy every day, I decided to see what all the fuss is about. Well I found out!!!! Only two hits, but both were new PB's I guess I know what all the fuss is about now!!! I'm sold. Needless to say, I am glad I went out. LMB 5lbs. 1 oz. SMB 2lbs. 11 ozs. :) ajr Got both fish in rocky areas in about 5" of water. here's the photos!!!
  14. How do you import more than one picture in a post?? ajr
  15. Naw...... I was just thinking should I have coffee or tea.... but I like what you said better!!!!!
  16. I have been working on my "jigging" for several months now. I can see how people become addicited to it, and how it produces big bass. Work VERY SLOW at first. Try a 1/4 oz. jig with a nice size trailer. The funny thing about jigs is I thought they were just for flipping and pitchin too, but they are very versatile. Read the articles posted here for more great info and ask other members as I did...they will always help. I realized that to be a well rounded bass fisherman, these was a technique that I HAD to learn....and now I love to fish with it and continue to practice the many ways it can be used. Good luck!!! ajr
  17. Hey all... Weather here in Rhode Island has been steadily getting colder, so the boat doesn't get launched that much. Doing alot of shore fishing which I enjoy as well. I have not been getting alot of hits, but boy, when I do, they are the bigger fish in the local pond. I have upsized my baits, going to a large hollow bellied swimbait, and a 3/8- 1/2 oz. jig with a large chunk trailer; tomorrow, a few different larger spinnerbaits. Anyone else in the Northeast having any success this fall season? I hope to get out a few more times before it snaows with the Procraft, but who knows!!?? ajr
  18. Great job Dave!!!! And a great job of keeping that PIG alive to certify it!!! Congrats!!!! ajr
  19. It's got red eyes????? Hybrid?? Meanmouth??
  20. I don't know Tin... I have a feeling that the smallie will go first. Probably by someone who isn't even fishing for smallies with live bait!!!! People fish in the Reservoir (and the surrounding off limits branches) all the time, you know that. I have said it before and will say it again.....to enter a fish as a "record" or even show photos of fish caught from these "illegal" areas is a SIN and those doing it are no more than "petty theives" of the fishing world, if you know what I mean!!! Sorry, but the "Reservoir" subject just sets me off!!!! ajr
  21. Thanks TIN...that's what I thought and what I have been doing!!! It took another Yankee to know what I was talkin "bout!!! ajr
  22. As I read and re-read the copius articles on Fall bass fishing, one phrase continues to pop up: the bass and the baitfish will move into the backs of the creeks, follow them and you will catch some bass." This may sound stupid but, what creeks? Is this something that is primarily found in the South? I fish mostly reservoirs or spring fed ponds/lakes here in RI, or at least that's what I thought I was fishing. Is there a big difference (other than the weather) between Fall bass fishin in the North or in the South? I would assume that all bass follow the same patterns, even though it may be at different times of the year, or shorter periods of time. What about coves set back from the main body of the lake or pond? I don't know, maybe I am just reading it wrong. Ideas, comments, advice??? bassnajr
  23. Hey all, This is a bit off topic, but I think you can divide bass fisherman (in this case) into two categories. Those that fish with artificial lures and those that fish with live bait. I hate to disagree Muddy, but I believe that it takes more skill to fish with artificial lures than live bait while in pursuit of that monster bass. That having been said, it is the choice of the individual as to what they fish with. I haven't used live bait since I was a kid (crawlers for trout) and have never used minnows for bass fishing. Go back to a thread a while ago I started about whether there should be two different cagories for record fish...one for artificial and one for live bait. That thread was EXPLOSIVE!!!!! I don't use artificial lures because of any tackle company, I do it because I feel it is more of a challenge. learning the different techniques etc. This is, of course IMHO. bassnajr
