  1. Nice! Its always fun to catch fish with a new technique. I still haven't caught a fish with a deep diving crankbait. I've tried so many times, and I always give up on it and throw a jig or c-rig and slay 'em. Never tried spoons, but I know I should.
  2. I wasn't taking a shot at you, I just think its crazy that people would do this. How could it be a 'secret' that a certain body of water held big fish? You couldn't be the first person to catch a big fish there. I guess its just odd to me because it doesn't seem to be an issue here in Texas. The guides on nearly all of the lakes post their bass pictures and the patterns their catching them with. Maybe if all of the cali anglers carried guns on their boats it would solve the problem? Anyways, sorry to hijack the thread. What I meant to say was "nice fish man"
  3. How many people are looking at backgrounds in other people's pics to try to find a good fishing spot? Lol, right now all over California these invasive anglers are planning their trip to YOUR SPOT! OH no!
  4. I like booyah boo jigs w/ ragetail lobsters
  5. I use the cheapest model of Eagles on my 10ft mini-bass boat. I think I paid $65 for it. It doesn't have any fancy tricks, but it will tell you where the stucture and brush piles are, and where the fish are hanging out. Best $65 I ever spent.
  6. Without a doubt..a JIG of course! Jigs are more versatile, catch more big fish, and produce far more consistently. (for me, at least)
  7. I can't wait for them to hit the stores. I will get a few for sure! I catch too many dinks on the 65, and the frogs around here are HUGE. I catch bullfrogs on my 65 bronzeye.
  8. Stick with it, and you'll be glad you did. For a long time I didn't think I could catch a fish with a jig. I would get them hung up, and not get bites, which would make me put the jig down and throw something else. Winter before last, I went out fishing with a friend of mine and he MADE me leave my tackle box in his truck. I had told him on the way to the lake that I hadn't ever caught a fish on a jig. He said "you're catching fish with a jig today, or you're catching nothing at all" After the first few hours of catching nothing, I was getting discouraged. Then I felt that first bump, I set the hook, and I've been stuck on jigs ever since. With more practice I started to catch more and more fish with them. I always have a jig tied on now.
  9. 1/2 oz jig with a flappin hog or ragetail lobster trailer This year I've been gettin some nice ones on cavitron buzzbaits and spro frogs as well.
  10. and this will do it I'm pretty sure #12 and #14 are the same fish, but I caught them on separate trips. (same scar on the lip)
  11. Just thought I'd put some of my favorite bass from this year together in one post. Most of these are jig fish.
  12. Nice, makes me wish I was there. I really want one of those big new spro frogs.
  13. For submerged trees and brush, I go with a booyah boo jig. Work it slow and when you feel it get 'stuck' on a branch, just give it a little slack and then hop it over. It has a narrow head, which comes through branches pretty easily. Add a ragetail lobster and have some fun with it.
  14. No gators here, but we do have water moccasins and an overpopulation of turtles in this pond. The owner has asked me to help him control their numbers a bit. Besides, this is Texas. I think we're required to have a gun on the boat with us anyways.
  15. I hate to admit this, but I've never caught a fish on a deep diving crankbait. I have a plano tray full of them, in various sizes and colors. I've tried them so many times, and I think I'm just about done. Its hard to stick with it when I can throw a c-rig, t-rig or jig and pull 'em up consistently. When fish are suspended off the bottom, I yo-yo a spinnerbait. Works for me...
  16. Had a great day on the water yesterday. A storm front came through, which brought some cloud cover and temps below 100! Hooray! Until about noon, I was catching them on ragetail toads and buzzbaits. Then when the cloud cover cleared I hit the laydowns with lobster jigs. Good times. Can't wait to try the new ragetail stuff!
  17. For pitching, I like a reel with a high gear ratio to get fish up and out of cover quickly. I've been using a diawa megaforce and it fits this purpose well. Its only $60. My nicer reels are for casting.
  18. I fish alone about half the time. I usually catch more fish when I'm alone. I'm much more quiet and I have 360 degrees of casting options. Its more fun to fish with a friend, though.
  19. The next Lake Ray Hubbard Bass Club open tournament is on October 10th. Anyone here going to be fishing in it? http://www.rayhubbardbassclub.com/index.html
  20. megastrike. its the only one I use now.
  21. The rig depends on the wind for me. On a calm day I like to fish one weightless. If its a bit windy I t-rig with a 1/8oz bullet weight or put it on a shakey head jig. If its really windy I use a c-rig with a 1/2 or 3/4 ounce weight. They make for an OK jig trailer as well. My favorite colors are watermelon candy and green pumpkin magic
  22. I remember all the hype when they came out. Slug-gos were the hottest thing you could buy. I wouldn't call them a waste of money. I've caught many fish with them, but these days I have other preferences for that kind of bait. I like flukes and lake fork tackle magic shads.
  23. over 5 is a big fish to me over 8 is a hawg
