I don't suppose anyone'd be interested in selling a dozen of those to me? The stripers are gonna be running in the Potomac soon! PM me if interested. I'd be interested in some in a 3/0 to 5/0 size in shad or bluegill colors. Thanks, Greg
  2. Rubber legged olive buggers with a little flash (bead head or flashabou are good). Otherwise you sound like you're doing it right, just wait for a little warmer water or fish a little slower and deeper. The guy that said saltwater flies had it right too. Get sme darker colored streamers and twitch them through deep holes.
  3. I fished the Potomac from the bank in and around DC this past weekend, and had a pretty good spnnerbait bite. You don't need to go as slow as you'd think.
  4. you can soak the spool in warm water for five minutes and then respool. You can also trail it downstream of you to get out any twist. Finally if the other two are out, you can unspool it across a large grassy area, tie the end to something, put it under tension for a minute or two, and then respool, letting it drag across the grass.
  5. That's easily 15 lbs, I'd probably guess more than that. Nice fish
  6. I use fireline crystal for pretty much everything now. It takes several casts to get it broken in, but that's the same with most lines new on the spool. It has very good sensitivity, and I find less reason to use a leader with the crystal. I'm not a big fan of the original black however.
  7. Mostly the Potomac in and around DC; it a fantastic diverse fishery. Also am starting to turn on to the lakes on Quantico. I'm looking for some pike in MD as well.
  8. Awesome, thats only 30 miles away from me. Perfect!
  9. I actually feel like I get less action with them; I think they're more smoke than fire.
  10. Hit the Dream Stream or hit Antero, Eleven Mile, or Spinney Mountain for big trout or pike. Big wooly buggers or crawdad flies in any of the three, or possibly some swimming damselflies around the weeds. There's way too many options...
  11. Yeah I saw that. They're supposed to be in a lake in Fredericksburg as well (we tried it, didn't work out). I just didn't think there were enough to really target.
  12. Awesome, it's getting about that time...
  13. Anyone pike fish in SE Pennsylvania or Maryland? basically anywhere within decent driving distance of Washington DC? I'm looking for someplace to take the wife, she loves the pike.
  14. Cavitron and triple wings. I really really like the triple wing and it' pretty inexpensive.
  15. The cheapest toothpaste with baking soda you can find, rinse them in white vinegar
  16. To answer your question: Yes, the lakes show alot of similarities. To add another point, if you like the New York Finger Lakes, there are the "Finger Lakes of the Smokies" on the Little Tennessee River from below Fontanna Dam all the way to Tellico. Cheowah, Calderwood, and a couple others. If you're i north Chatanooga, it's not a drive and teh scenery and fishing's well worth it.
  17. Use a fish shaped body, or shad colored worm or big grub and fish it t-rigged in hops under the balls of shad...should work.
  18. What SimonSays said. You can just use 6 lb trilene for a tippet if you need to. There's no point in repeatedly replacing your 3-4$ tapered leader when you can buy a $3 100yd spool and have tippets forever. Use a surgeons knot or a nail not to attach it and you're good to go. I like to buy short 1X or 2X tapered leaders and just change what you use for tippet. It makes casting heavy flies way easier. I'd also e interested in flying the sahd run if anyone know some spots up near Reagan National.
  19. I'd go with float-n-fly or suspending jerkbait worked in about 15-20' of water over softball to basketball-sized chunk rock banks. If there are some rock bluffs in the area, maybe some larger boulders, and wind blowing into the bank, so much the better. In Dale Hollow 15-20 ft may only be 20 ft off the bank. Good luck, that's a great smallie lake.

This is definitely something i want to get more into. Does anyone have a favorite swim jig/brand?
  21. You shouldn't need to go further than the Potomac, the C&O, and even some places in Rock Creek through the park. For Smallmouth, you're going to want to get a little further upriver on the Potomac, but for largies, stripers and other warmwater fish, you should be just fine on the C&O and Potomac through town. I've got some other places (some of them a little wacky) in extreme NOVA if you need more. Greg
  22. The baits look fine, but I absolutely hate the website.
  23. Yup, we do... : :
  24. Now that's funny, I don't care who you are... ;D ;D
  25. My wife has the same problem and just learned to cast with both hands. Now, if one starts getting sore, she switches off. Also, smooth underhand casting helps he alot.
