Just so we're clear - I took the lowest mortality rate, with some estimates putting it at 2 to 3 percent. It's still several orders of magnitude greater than the flu, even at the lowest demostrated levels. If 1% of the US population gets it, that means there would be 150,000 hospitalizations and 15,000 to 30,000 deaths. MERS and SARS presented earlier and killed more quickly - they weren't hanging around for several days before symptoms. People also took it more seriously because of the dramatic effects.

You're missing the math of it. Asymptomatic but contagious for several days, then onset. The issue isn't how deadly each case is, it's the .6% mortality rate and the 5% ICU hospitalization rate that, if happening in volume over a short term, would overwhelm our healthcare system. We need to flatten that exponential curve into summer.

I'm not sure what you're going for there? If we're talking about the lost income or store closures - that is not what I was referencing, and that side affect of the closures and quaratines is certainly awful. I was referencing the potential deaths of thousands if not millions of people. If this really reached full epidemic in the US, the economic impact on top of the health impact would indeed be even worse.

I think the forethought and preparation being shown is for the most part commendable (except for toilet paper...). If this turns out to be nothing...well darn. When confronted with overwhelming numbers, strategy is the way to beat strength.

OC - while I appreciate what you're saying - consider this like a forest fire. It will mostly burn the dead and dying, but will take healthy trees and houses with it. If it is contained, it is minimally damaging. But if it grows, it has the potential to kill a few percent of the world's population. The deaths arent part of the normal death toll of life, they are an addition to it. At peak, it would pull medical resources away from many, many other things.

I had a lady snake my cart at Costco while i waded through humanity for some pistachios...polite society is falling apart!? However she did have the decency to leave the things that were in the cart, so I guess there's hope.

Bear Creek was always good to me with swimbaits. Fishing hudds and glides across points and on underwater humps was consistent, if not overwhelming. Youd be shocked what you can catch fishing wake baits at night in the rocks at Chatty. Catfish? Walleye? Smallie? Largie? Its like a frickin' grab bag.

Holy poop! That's a ton of water! I used to fish that from a kayak in college. A lot of big fish in/around the current at normal releases - one of my favorite places to fish. I had a 20+ lb striper take me about 3 miles downriver on a fly. I had a love/hate relationship with that fish.

If youre in Denver proper - Quincy, Wash Park, a number of city ponds and even...gulp...Sloans Lake have been better to me than those Boulder ponds. Even the S. Platte east of the city has better fishing to my taste than the drive for those ponds.

Tough time of year, and I never loved the Boulder ponds - good on you for trying.

When you go into cold water, your circulatory system very quickly restricts the circulation to your extremities, 'circling the wagons' as it were to limit heat loss and maximize core temp. Your limbs become fairly useless pretty quickly. Your body will keep you alive for a decent time, but still holding onto a boat or having a pfd keeping you on the surface is your best chance of discovery and survival.

Any hiking or backcountry you can do in the Tetons is fantastic. Cody WY is a fun town. If you've never been out there, the scale of it is amazing. As for trout - roostertails or rapalas or small spoons - if you're not catching fish, you're not on fish.

I always tell people who are getting into kayaking to go abuse the stability of their boat in a controlled environment so that they know what it really is, and they know what it feels like to fall out, especially in cold water. Its like a sledgehammer to the chest and then swimming in cement.

If you havent paddled one properly set up, I cant help you. The Frontier 12 paddles great for sit on top with it's stability, and fishes like a plastic bassboat. Never had a problem mounting ram mounts on the rails for fish finders - but I dont be cause I like a clean deck for my dry fly fishing ?. Not sure what you want for hull access - the front hatch is huge.

1. Cal's is the bees' knees. 2. I think the better reel services (cough...dvt..cough) have a feel for optimum performance when putting them back together. There's a sweet spot for every gear, bearing, and screw, and I think only experience can find it every time. 3. Drive it like you stole it...and then get the next one.

Hudd 68 (not weedless), 7" Slammer, and Deps 175 or SWaver and you will catch fish as long as you know how to fish. If you're not sure, fish the slammer at night on windblown shorelines and grasslines. Go ahead and burn your wallet. CXX in 17 lb for those baits btw.

Im going to tske some flack for this - but many of these things are so far from why I got into kayak fishing that it loses me. My Nucanoe, that I could put an outboard on - weighs in at 70+ pounds. I can carry it and car top it. All of the wiring and add-ons and weight just turn these into small bassboats, not as much the simplicity and mobility that I love about kayaking. I also only fish dry flies...? PS - If you're not in a Nucanoe, you're not in the best yak.

The only thing you're missing is the boat...just wasting time now - let's start looking at colors and options.

I think it's a very impressive boat - the only drawbacks I would see are gas consumption on it and your tow vehicle, and nimbleness in close to rocks/shore/shallow water. But you should darn near be able to cross the Atlantic in that thing.
