  1. If you catch it just right @ BPS they run a sale on the RC's and sell them for 9.99 each. I always load up then.
  2. On one hand I think the same as everyone else - rip off On the other hand I see it as our sport is growing and parents are starting to see this as a true professional sport where their kid could grow up to be the next KVD. It is kind of like the devices designed to improve a kids swing for baseball. They are fun but they also serve a purpose. JMHO though.
  3. That flee infested primate also says things such as "You have a shakey head rod already but wouldn't it be nice to have a spare so when you are alternating between docks in calm pockets and docks with some wind on them you can throw the 1/8oz and then have another rigged with 1/4 for the windier docks" or better yet "KVD has 6 cranking rods with the same bait but different diameter lines so he can be more efficient on the water but you only have 2"
  4. I have had a bunch of success this year flipping a green pumpkin 4.25" Yum Vibra King Tube around shallow cover. 4/0 Owner Wide Gap Plus and 1/4oz Green Pumpkin Tru Tungsten weight unpegged.
  5. I mainly pull the spoons out for vertical fishing in the winter time but I have tried (very limited though) to learn the structure spoon stuff with the sexy spoons and other flutter spoons. Vertical jigging a Acme Kastmaster spoon here can put a limit in the boat in 5 minutes which leaves you all day to look for a kicker. It is a very good technique when you get them fired up.
  6. I agree with Fishfordollars on this one but it is mainly because I am usually practicing for an upcoming tournament. Idealy on tournament day I would only have 2 -4 rods on the deck. I do think that you would stand a good chance of increasing your catch or catching larger fish if you could get dialed into fewer baits on some days but on others you would probably do worse. I sometimes feel that versatility can be a hinderance and good ol fashioned hard headedness will pay off.
  7. Yep no sale here in Charlotte either. Very upset!! >
  8. I am definitely not disagreeing with either of the previous posts since they have caught more fish on the Ika than myself but this is simply a possible alternative. I began fishing the Ika (after finding this website of course) with an offset hook just like was mentioned above. I too was losing more fish than I liked simply because I was not getting good hook penetration so I went to a 4/0 Owner Straight shank hook and have done better with hooking percentage and landing fish. JMHO though take it for what its worth.
  9. My favorite story of the year was getting the opportunity to compete as a co-angler in an Elite Series tournament. It was a great experience and a huge learning experience as well. I fished the Elite on Clarks Hill and fished with Casey Ashley, Brian Hudgins, and Skeet Reese. I learned a whole lot from each one of those guys and I also got to meet Glenn and spend some quality time with him. All in all it was one of the greatest experiences in my life!
  10. I was just looking at bassmasters website and there is a very nice article on JJ's Magic done with Preston Clark. Looks like good things are happening for JJ! Good job.
  11. I think you might have answered your own question as to if you really need the fluro leader. If you are not getting as many bites then it is affecting your catch rate so you need to go to whatever gets the most bites. As for the leader length, I am not completely certain but I would think something around 3-5 feet probably. I don't currently use the braid/ fluro leader technique as much as I probably should though.
  12. BTS and KVD L&L are two very special products indeed! I have used just about every brand of boat protectant out there and BTS blows the doors off of the competition. I haven't even made it to the suggested 3rd coat yet and can't even imagine it doing a better job than it is now. All other products don't stand a chance! First Rob one ups Reel Magic and now he is putting the heat on all other boat protectant manufacturers! Way to go!
  13. That is a nice looking little bait there. What are the specs on it? It looks like it might be about the same length as a sweet pea but a little bigger profile all around?
  14. Stringjam How do you like the WEC Mutt? I have a few but have not had a chance to take them swimming yet. Also what about the Dee Baits? I have almost pulled the trigger a few times but for some reason have not.
  15. All I have to say is tie a good knot because you might have to fight to get them back in that pond. ;D
  16. I highly recommend the Hollow Belly swimbaits! I typically just fish it high in the water column around docks, over grass, etc.
  17. Shallow crankbaits of some sort lipped or lip less and buzzbaits. I also like a jig or tube around shallow docks as well.
  18. I am not Bobby by any means myself as well but I remember seeing Marty Stone talking about this on ESPN before Bassmasters one morning a while ago. He was commenting on the quality of bites you got when the baro was low and the bubbles were there. He said that you stand to get just as many bites with or without the bubbles but when you see the bubbles behind your bait the fish almost always get your bait instead of slapping at it. After that day I have noticed very similiar results. Sorry if I am out stepping my bounds.
  19. Every rod can break. I have 10 Crucials and they have no problem what so ever. Don't worry about Crucials being under powered! Even if it did break the over the counter warranty says it all.
  20. That top bait is sick. I agree with Idlov2fish - You would have to lay down in the bottom of the boat to tie that one on.
  21. looks like cotton candy to me.
  22. x2 for the Yum Vibra King Tube 4.25 Green pumpkin and Black/ Blue.
  23. Mr. Wells, With all due respect you reassured what I was trying to point out. Lets face it, tournament organizations have to look at the "sales" aspect of everything as well. And by sales I mean how many fishermen they can get to enter the tournaments. If you take the "Central" division that is basically in Texas and then put in a tournament on the Delta you will not be able to fill the spots like you could have if you put them all together because someone who is trying to earn an Elite birth is more likely to fish them ALL if he can afford to put the gas in the truck to drive 5 hours instead of 15. That is what I was getting at. The Western division is something that I would love to see but until they have a division set solely in the West, I wouldn't expect to see an open held on one of the great fisheries of California solely due to the expense to the fishermen and the tournament organization. I was in no way trying to discount the fishing in California (that was proven time and time again last year in the Elites).
