  1. Great video! Nothing beats fishing from a kayak, in a quiet lake/pond, and having a fish tow you around.
  2. What width canoe do you use a kayak paddle with? My understanding is it works best on narrow canoes, such as solo models, not 36" wide like his Wenonah. Hey Marty, My kayak is 30" wide, the paddle is an 8', my canoe is 36". I have torn cartilage in both knees, so I don't kneel on the bottom as some do. (or like I used to) Hopefully you know someone you can borrow a paddle from so you can try it for a day, just to see if it works for you.

jr1945, I think you should try making another and don't use the blade. I think it would work fine as a walking bait. If it works feel free to send me one! Again, looks real "fishy"
  4. Whatever you decide, wait for a sale. BassPro and Cabela's always are having sales. Also look at Cabela's Bargain Cave, and the fishing flea market on this sight.
  5. I have an Oldtown k-140 kayak (14 ft.) so I use that paddle with my Grumman canoe. I'll have to measure the length of the paddle, and the width of the canoe tomorrow. Works for me because I can set it across the width and use it to set my rod on as a rest. I also paddle from the rear (which is narrower) and my two dogs ride towards the front, for ballast.
  6. Good advice. Also keep your garbage secure, especially when you are not home. If there are bones, or whatever, they WILL sniff them out.

Looks great! What kind of wood did you use? Looks like it will work as a wake bait.
  8. I went to the Hartford Ct. store recently and noticed their fishing dept. was pretty thin. Don't think they are stocking the store as much as they have in the past. I think the store brand rods and reels are pretty good. The discontinued Prodigy Round BC is one of the best I have used. Maybe they are cutting back too much.
  9. I have had Boxer's all my life. I had to put down my best friend in 2006 after a long battle with bone cancer. He was almost 12 at the time. I thought I would never want to have another as so many of mine have had too short of lives. I was helping out at AC at the time, and an abused 1 year old came in, and I didn't want to look at him. How could he compare to my Zeus? He won my heart over and I adopted him (along with my other adoted friends). He's now my best friend. I take both my adopted pals in my kayak fishing, the best part of my life. Adopt a dog from a shelter or AC. The perfect dog for you is just waiting. You will not regret it.
  10. The trick is, you have to be smarter than what you're working with : OH MY GOD!!! HA, HA, HA, you got me...I'm so freaking stupid I can't put a reel back together. It went into the dumpster AFTER I put it back together and used it for a couple of years. It never had half the performance of my Bantams. For some reason, I thought I'd re-activate the flippin' switch, so I took it apart again. Then I decided to throw it away... Kinda late now---but you could have stuck some duct tape over the switch! The things we do when we were younger
  11. Looks good! All I use are kayaks or canoes. Try using a kayak paddle, works good and you can set it across to fish. We don't need no stinkin' motors!
  12. Sorry to hear the bad news. One of the hardest things to deal with, because we are responsible for their life. I hope your memories are filled with the happy times.
  13. Thanks Mac, never heard them called that before. Who gave 'em that name, Larry the cable guy?
  14. What's wrong with what he said? Fluorocarbon is a crystal and different blends create different characterisitcs. I guess i just got schooled by a 15 year old..Sorry Bassclary! OUCH!
  15. I'd like to be but between work and the wife I can only manage 2 days a week if I'm lucky and it won't be full days either. Most lakes around here are starting to freeze but I'm lucky enough to live less than a hour away from one powerplant lake and a little over an hour away from another. One of them has good largemouth and wipers, the other has good largemouth, smallies, crappie, and white bass so I've always got something I could be fishing for. What the heck is a wiper???

  20. I think BC 15, I have a Shimano MagPlus that's about 10 years older than him
  21. You are a true fish-a-holic BC. I mean that in a good way. Kinda like a future Jimmie Houston. He'll kiss a Bass, but I bet he wouldn't go near Sarah Palin ;D I can catch both with a worm though ! ;D inch worm

  23. yeah, they're not good for casting Dahlberg Divers.
  24. After reading this I remembered I had a Shimano Bantam MagPlus 150X I bought new in the 80s? So today I put it on an old "clunker" rod I had around just for fun. That thing casted a mile with the mag turned to 0. No birdsnest either! Think it's going to be my new frog reel.
