  1. just found a great video on youtube on frog fishing with some pretty tips, i really enjoyed it and wanted to share it on this site
  2. my favorite is a very small wide wobble crankbait fished around deep riprap another is the float and fly around mouth of creekchannels good late winter presentation
  3. i think the spro bronzeeye frog is alittle heavier, not sure i never really fished with the scum frog. Try the bronzeeye frog not bronzeeye Jr that might solve your problems, and you dont have to worry too much about hookups, even though frog fishing does have its misses the bronzeeye has the best hookup ratio that i have found in my frog fishing
  4. wow thats terrible. last year i bought the veinto bastcasting reel and first time out with it the line guide thing started to act up. i thought it was a malfunction so i exchanged it. this new one lasted me a few weeks but did the same excalt thing i will never buy another daiwa in my life
  5. I mostly fish offshore structure or creek channels, but this past season i got into flipping pads, and bank grass for largemouth. It seemed like i was always using different baits with no consistency. The only ones i had success on was brush hogs and sweet beavers, but i know i can catch more bass on different baits, just not sure what they are. Just wondering what everyones favorite flipping bait is.
  6. o ok i fish western PA for smallies well congrats
  7. nice fish where did you catch her???
  8. i really dont think the bait matters, i use sweet beavers in the same fashion and get just as many bites, the weight is very important and depends on the weeds. early in the year before the weeds really grow, i use a 1/16 then go from there. Pick a light weight, fish for awhile, if you think you can get away with a lighter weight switched, if you dont think the bait is getting below the weeds, switch to a bigger one its a hard technique to explain, i learned it first hand while i was fishing a touranment and the guy in my boat showed me it, then i showed a few of my friends but i never tryed to explain it like this i hope im making sense
  9. i have alot of hydrilla in lakes here and i have alot of trouble fishing it but i found a nice solution. try to find some areas where the hydrilla is not so dense. then try a brush hog on a trig with the weight being just heavy enough to punch through the grass. then pull the bait through u will feel it snag up a bit. just pull easily then when the bait comes loose let it fall, (try the lightest weight possible again) the bait will flutter back to the bottom and this is when the bass will grab it. its slow fishing but here it produces the best areas are like i said less denser hydrilla and if there are patches of coontail present then you found yourself a real honey hole i hope i help, it took me three years to finally get a pattern for this grassy situation
  10. i use the bereky frenzy jerkbait, rapala x rap, rogue, pointer and the x rap alot but here on the 3 rivers the rogue dominates, but most of the lakes around pittsburgh the x rap and pointer does the best but since i fish the 3 rivers alot i voted for the rogue plus its a little cheaper than the pointer
  11. o really? yea im fishing just north of you and the grass sounds very similar idk im going to give it a try next year sometime why not
  12. o just wondering cause i miss alot of fish on the cheaper frogs but the bronzeeye has a good hookup ratio
  13. what type of frog were you using?
  14. buzzbaits Frogs brush hogs sweet beavers crankbaits tubes and grubs craws(for smallmouth) topwater poppers and walking baits varity of worms(straight tail, senkos, curly tails)
  15. i wade a lot of rivers for smallmouth and there are alot of bank grass in the rivers but it is in shallow water. i see alot of small panfish and minnows around them but never any decent size smallmouth but i cant see inside the grass just the edge. I ran into an angler who said he caught 4 really nice smallies flipping the bank grass on a 4 power worm trigged with a really light bullet weight Does any river smallie anglers out there do this???? and if so can you give me any tips on it
  16. Then again he could catch one in your bathtub on a frog. lol very true
  17. Since the surface temp is so cold in early morning, frogs will not naturally skip across but they will work, Dean Rojas says he catches fish in the dead of winter when the bass school up. Next year im going to get into the frog craze more but from what i have read, you can catch some bass on frogs. Good luck.
  18. Nearly all the lakes around my area are extremely clear. Try smaller senkos in green pumblkin. A trick worm on a shakey head or drop shot rig works very well.
  19. smallieking posted a topic in Introductions
im back but its been months since i been on so i feel i should reintroduce myself. I'm from the Pittsburgh area, i love fishing around here for smallmouth and i have been doing it for 16 years. im 22 years old
  20. hey fishn how is it looking for this weekend? im very excited just got out to dicks last night to pick up a bunch of stuff for wills cant wait
  21. i rarely flyrod for smallmouth, mostly because im not very good with it but i will about twice a year. the funnest times fly fishing is when a river floods onto a flat, smallmouth will move into the flat to escape the current and take advantage of the forage there. i like casting out a streamer like a wooly bugger and just rip it through the shallows. i never catch anything big on it but man its fun catching some
  22. i like jitterbugs the best. i like buzzbaits more for largemouth at night than smallies. another fun bait that is producing for me is the storm chug bug. But classic hair jigs work great too so the best for me is jitterbugs, chug bugs/poppers and smaller hair jigs
  23. i used a double tail grub on a buzzbait just too see if it made any difference and i dont think it need so i second the opinions of those who say no to buzzbait trailers, all you need is a good trailer hook and you will be fine
  24. i like flukes and crankbaits alot but if you still can see bass on beds guarding fry the dropshot is the best i think
  25. hmm i dont think i have ever fished there, i mainly stick to the old tatesville bridge and fish right there there is some nice water just below bedford i fish a good bit too. but this year im going to try to fish below cypher beach and bridge
