I've fished it a few times. It's a beautiful lake full of standing timber and is home to some real trophy size largemouth. But august until October is a tough time of the year there. Fish will suspended in the trees and they are very hard to locate. I've lean to main lake on the resort side of the lake. Try small fitness jigs and shakyhead. My go to on that lake in that time of the year is a 4 inch senko rigged on a shaky head. Also balsa flat side crankbaits work around the deeper edges of any grass that is present

If u like the baby brush hog check out the missile baby d stroyer. It's a great flipping bait as well as a great carolina rig bait. But if you wanna try something new rig it on a drop shot with a short leader. Definitely gives the fish something they are not used to seeing.

On a speed trap which I usually throw early spring I throw bright red. On rto I throw either threadfin shad or bluegill depending on primary forage in the lake.

I've been crushing a ton of smallies in the river where I live. The water temp is 38-41 degrees. I caught 44 this past Saturday. I'm targeting rocky bottom 20-25 feet deep. Two baits that have been getting me a lot of action is a 1/10 ned rig dead sticked in these holes and a 1/4 ounce binsky blade bait.

to fish a bassmaster open you will need a boater link because by now the field is filled. In addition, since you are just starting out you might prefer a cheaper tournament series. There is also a bfl on Oneida and a great tournament curcuit for new co anglers is the American bass anglers ram open series. They have a series in upstate New York and usually get a good number of boats

The guys on the bassmaster elite tour are used to no practice prior to the start of the tournament. Each event On the elite series has an off limits time period and they are usually 4 weeks. I'm not sure how long the off limits for the classic is.

the lower lake is pretty clear with good visibly. Above the causeway the water has much color in it.

Early June the lake will be on fire. Causeway should hold plenty of post spawn bass. Breast of dam and old road bed are good areas as well in June

Raystown is in my home lake and i know this post is too late for you. but sept is the toughest month of the year on that lake. it changes by the day. things that work one day wont work the next. the water is the absolute clearest this time the year and it really pulls the bass off of the structure and out of the cover and has them chasing bait. they move back to the bank at night so early morning is crucial to your success on raystown in september. points on the main river are usually the best bet. early in the morning you will see the bass largemouth and smallmouth eating off the surface and spooks and poppers work great. as the sun gets up the fish will start to chase the schools of bait out into the depths of the lake and you can catch a few on swimbaits scroungers and spybaits until about 9:30. fog can prolong your morning bite but if you are fishing a tournament fog delays and kill your chances. towards mid day the main lake bite can be very inconsistent. dragging a heavy jig and dropshot out into 50-70 feet can work. but best bet to get a few bites is to move into the creek arms and up the river to try to locate a few rogue resident fish in shallow cover and grass. problem is raystown is very pressured and the resident fish are very educated so it reaction baits to get these bass to bite. squarebill crankbaits and buzzbaits are usually the ticket. along with trolling slow and making repeat casts to the targets.

I like to have a vast variety of color cranks, I have learned that certain colors work better than others on certain lakes and since I fish all kinds of different bodies of water I like to have all types of colors to experiment with. And there's been times I caught schoolers on cranks and when thy stopped biting making a subtle color change could reignite the school.. i like shad colored, bluegill, red, chrome, chartuse , chartuese shad, blue and bone white

Okay thanks for the info I may plan a trip in early April where some bass may be on beds but most are still in a presspawn stage and I think I may fish both lakes while I'm down there

Thanks for the info. One of my best friends moved to Charlotte NC so I was planning on fishing near there as well as visiting him. I'm not much of a sight fisherman. Here in pa we don't sightfish much for spawners. I was wondering if a prespawn or post spawn pattern couldn't produce a lot of fun fish catches. How much farther is wateree from Wylie?

I own one season of it on dvd. There's some good info on them and I've learned a few little tips on things from watching it but for the money they cost it's not worth it.

Planning a trip to lake Wylie this spring. I'm a pa guy and not fimilar with southern fishing. What is the best time to fish this lake? March? April? May???

Match... There is no craw dad or baitfish out there that is two different colors. Big bass are smart and its a must to present a jig that looks as natural as possible to them
