Line For Jerkbait Fishing.
when It comes to jerkbaits I only throw fluoro. in my mind the flouro lets me get the bait deeper and would give it more action when I twitch the rod due to less stretch. well in a tournament this past sunday my partner and I were both throwing a Megabass vision 110 in a sexy shad color.. he caught three and had one miss. I never got a bait. the only difference he was throwing his on mono while I fished mine with fluorocarbon. now my question is: do you guys think the line made a difference? if so why? or did he just have luck on his side on sunday.

Mounting Battery Charger - Need Help
Ive always just drilled holes and screwed it in but my cousin showed me a great way to mount his. he screwed it to a piece of fiberglass. just alil bigger than than the actual charger. than he used liquid nails or some sort of fiberglass adhesive and glued it to the inside wall of the boats transom. he did the same when he mounted his transducer and structure scan module

14' Jon Boat,flat Bottom Advice
I learned to fish out of a 10 foot v bottom sear boat. the only motor I had on it was a 30lb trust transom trailing motor. no trailer, just hauled it around in my pickup. it wasn't the most comfortable but it was extremely cheap. I took it to shallow rivers with a ton of current to big water where 50 foot yachts were cruising around. it handled well and I caught tons upon tons of fish outa that boat. seems like a great buy and a really great way to get into the sport of bass fishing

Help /w This Boat Please
ive been on a ton of boats and I own stratos... I love them... I have a 295 pro xl. with a 175 hp. though its rated for a 200 but I fly. rangers are nice but theyre sleds and too slow for me. fishing as a co angler ive been in a lot of boats. honestly theres not much difference. one boat I was very impressed with tho are phoenix. they fly and are super comfortable to ride in. and on the opposite side of the spectrum are basscat. in my opinion these boats are awful. very rough ride and the layout and setup of them are dumb in my opinion. theyre not a very well engineered boat... but for the money stratos is unbeatable. theyre light and fly. well though out and simple.. I got more than enough storage in mine along. its not the greatest in rough water due to its light weight. but I fish lake erie a lot and the boat holds up great and I fly in rough water cuz im so confident in the boat. while bigger more expensive boats are just taking their time scared of the lake. a lot of the guys in my club run stratos and we all agree that livewell system are unbelievable. the guys that run stratos in our club, well theres a noticeable difference at the weight in about how much more lively our fish are. ive been fishing out of stratos for 5 years and only ever weight in one dead fish and that was because the fish swallowed a jerkbait and I killed the fish digging it out of its gills.... im 24 and for my style of fishing I truly think stratos is perfect for me. maybe once im older and wont run wide open everywhere I go my opinions my change but everyone is different and has theyre own preferences.

Carolina Rig Questions -- Even After A Ton Of Research
I love c rig fishing... the biggest part of my c rig fishing is keep the weight on the bottom... I use Carolina rig to search for bottom structure. so sensentivity is key. I use a heavy tungsten weight. my line choice is braid with a fluorocarbon leader. the braid lets me feel everything that the weight is hitting into. then the fluorocarbons stealth gets me more bites. and for me I use a side retrieve ONLY! this is very important because it keeps the tungsten on the bottom. a vertical retrieve will lift the weight off the bottom and I lose connect with whats going on down there. i use Carolina rig to search for rocks and stumps and logs on the bottom. if i use a vertical retrieve the weight will hop over such cover defeating the purpose. experiment with bait styles and leader length and let the fish tell you what works best.

Favorite Baits For Carolina Rigs
Arkie twin tail hula grub... I pinch off the skirt and just throw the twin tailed grub... that bait is so much different than anything the bass has ever seen before. and if im trying to really finesse a Carolina rig with a lighter weight its hard to beat a zoom trick worm

Co-Angler Advice...advice For The Back Of The Boat
ive fished for years out of the backs of boats. still do for flw and federation tournaments. Its a much cheaper way to fish. The biggest piece of advice is you always gota fish just a fast or faster than your partner. if hes burning up the trolling motor cranking or spinnerbaiting. well you wont be able to flip or throw something slow. so pick something different than what hes throwing to give the bass a different look and pay attention to areas or targets he might have missed and fish them thoroughly. and also if hes going slow your entire tacklebox is open. one great tip that has helped me when fishing behind a flipper, especially a good one is try a square bill or spinnerbait around the same cover he is flipping. I get so many reaction bites from bass that turned down a jig or plastic. and don't be afraid to throw on the opposite side of the boat with a jig crankbait or Carolina rig.... two biggest keys to being a good co angler is to pay attention to what the boater is doing. be different in your retrieve and bait selection as well as casting to targets he might have over looked. and if hes really catching them, well copy him... co angling in a small club is the best way to develop your skills and knowledge of your local lakes...

Favorite Jigs ??
there are so many colors and types that are good. water color depth and type of cover im fishing all contribute to what jig im going to throw... I throw all custom made jigs my fishing partner makes. The one I throw most often is a 3/8 ounce football head black and blue jig. I trailer it with a zoom speed craw.. I like it for stain water with a lot of shallow cover. I catch them off rock and wood... on clear lakes I like a green pumpkin or a brownish color... for deep water I throw a 3/4 to a one ounce stand up jig. I trailer my stand up jig with a gary yamamoto psycho dad.

Favorite Topwater Bait For Early Spring
this may be crazy but I actually catch a few on frogs... I don't fish on top in water that cold but every one and then in the warmest pockets on the lake I can find a fish or two back in thick weeds and if I fish a white frog super slow I can get them to blow up on them... I actually caught a 5 pounder in the very back pocket in 49 degree water last spring in a tournament. while every one was jerkbaiting and throwing a rigs on main river I was running the backs of super warm pockets, caught my limit and won.

Finesse Worm And Trick Worm
depending on the conditions I dropshot or shakyhead a strike king 3x finesse worm... the worm floats so its impossible to fish them wrong.

Electronics Placement....
I honestly don't know... my units are linked together to share my waypoints. but since both my units are the same I have the same transducer one on my transom the other on my trolling motor.
-
Electronics Placement....
the side imaging transducer can be mounted on the trolling motor. mine is and works great.
-
Electronics Placement....
youre going to want the side scan imaging at the console so you can idle and cover a lot of water and see whats down there while running your big motor. But Im the type to have my bigger better unit up front at the trolling motor. i fish erie a lot and i stare at my graph all day. i have an HDS 7 at the front and Console. I never use side scan at the trolling motor but its a huge feature i use when im looking at flats and ledges while im idling. to maximize the use of your units your going to want the hds 5 at the front and the 7 at the console even tho you be spending more time staring at the 5

Crankbait....alteration Advice.
email the tackle company. Tackle companies rely on customer feed back to make their business better. Tho itd take a lot of time before seein anything on the market but your comments along with other anglers will drive the company to develop the bait in a silent model.

Beaver Style Baits?
When the smallies relate to grass nothing beats a 1/8 ounce texas rigged strikeking rodent. smallmouth love them. Ive caught em on the finger lakes in NY, Lake Erie, All throughout PA. I have more confidence in a rodent than I do a tube anymore

Fishing Pressured Lakes
I fish a lot of small lakes that gets ton of tournament and fishing pressure. I know everyone says slow down, fish more finesse techniques and all that which works great. But everyone fishing the lake is doin that as well with the tough bite. Two things I do that separate me from the rest and 95 percent of the time land me in the money is : 1. cheat. look at what everyone is using has lined up on there boats. on the lakes around here for whatever reason every guy has the same baits tied on as everyone else. its shocking really. so I dig in my tackle and find something way different something the bass don't see and they eat it. I find the baits that have different vibration then what the fish are used to is the key 2. what makes kvd so good, Be super erratic in your retrieves. make those fish bite. Triggering bass into striking is by far the best way I win tournaments on lakes that get a ton of pressure.

How Many Elites Are Elites
Denny brauer put this subject in great prospective. He was on verge of a elite series win and he said about how hard they are to win. His exact words were when he first started there was probably 25 percent that could win any given tournament. Anyone else would need a lot of luck to win. Now there's 75 percent that could win any given tournament. And about 25 percent that would need some luck to win. And I'm assuming you don't follow all tournaments. Chris lane proved himself before winning the classic when he won the southern open. There's hundreds of anglers that fish that tournament and he was the one that came out on top and won. Same as hank cherry he's elite. And cliff pace is so consisted. He's always in the top 20 in aoy points. Ike is prob the worst in your list. Ike is good but he lets his emotions beat him self. The only reason you think he's good is because they're are always cameras on him. He fishes the northeast region bass federation, which I fish. I've never seen him win and he's fishing against average joes and I've never heard him scream.... He only does it when cameras are around. Very smart to get sponsorships. He fished with my bass club on the three rivers and he couldn't catch anything. He even gave a poster to our one member, the poster was him and he signed it, hey rich paybacks are a *****.... We all out fished him. I think you need to do a lot of research before starting an argument. I think all them guys are elite. I mean look at how many ppl u gota beat just to get there.

Ran Out Of Time In Tournament
This seems to happen to me quite often this year. I fish a lot of one day tournaments no practice. So I get eight hours to figure them out and beat my competition. This year though it seems like right in the last 30 min or so i will start getting them. Does this happen to anyone else? Just this last Saturday had a tournament at a 20hp lake, well I entered it and had to just use my trolling motor since I can run my 150hp. Well I had the plan to start at the launch go towards the breast and when the tournament was half over cross the lake and start coming back on the opposite shoreline. Well five hours in not a bite. I used everything. Jig spinnerbait crank bait dropshot Texas rig Carolina rig jerk bait top water.... I had my boat completely ripped apart trying to get something together.. Well I caught one on a jig. Keep fishing it with no success. I had 20 min left in the day and I was directly across from the launch. I decided to try one last technique a super small finesse four inch shakyhead. Just like that I caught three fish in less than ten casts. Also caught two bass just under twelve inch length. Ran out of time and had to get back to weigh in. ...
