  1. I have 5 or 6 various-size Stradics and one 2500 Vanford that was new last year. I like the Vanford better and if I needed another reel I would buy another Vanford.
  2. No not "unimaginable" up there. The place was noted for its giant pike not to mention walleye, lake trout and brookies. BTW I measured the fish and it was 2 inches plus longer on both ends of my 4-foot-mounted tape. I did not have a longer tape.
  3. Tom's story reminds me of a net I ruined many years ago. My sons and I were fishing a big lake in Quebec east of James Bay. We were trolling a rock cliff for walleye. At the end of the cliff, I began a gradual turn to troll back along the cliff. As I was making the turn I hooked a big pike. I was using 6 lb line and a 3 or 4 inch green grub. We eventually got the fish up to the boat and my son netted it. When he lifted the net the fish broke right through the bottom of the net bag. There I was with me on one side of the net and the fish taking off on the other side. I quickly slid the rod through the hole in the net and started fighting the fish again. I was able to hand-land the fish. I did not get a weight but the length was over 52 inches. What is unusual is I caught another monster pike in the same place with a similar grub and the same rod, reel and line combo while fishing for walleye two years later.
  4. I have at least a compass if there is no GPS on my boats. I even had a hull-mounted compass on my sneak box I used for duck hunting. The areas where I hunt and fish experience a lot of fog or reduced visibility and I prepare for it. BTW GPS has spoiled me in a good way. 😉
  5. I have two of the big Cabala's bags designed for the 3700 boxes. One is probably 20 years old and the other is over ten. They are holding up great.
  6. https://www.autoevolution.com/news/norwegian-ferry-company-bans-electrified-vehicles-from-transport-on-its-ships-208942.html https://rairfoundation.com/fire-hazard-norweigen-shipping-company-first-to-ban-electric-cars-on-ferries/
  7. If I can find the article I'll post it. They mentioned the container ship that sunk a few months ago with all the high end European cars. They said that the fire started in an electric car and they could not extinguish it.
  8. I just found another concern about lithium batteries and that is the potential for fire. Has anyone looked into the possibility that a lithium boat battery could catch fire while in a garage? A ferry company in Norway just banned electric cars from its boats because of the possibility of fire. It seems that once a lithium battery starts to burn it is very hard to extinguish. Any thoughts?
  9. Don't forget a few Beatle Spins with yellow, white, and sometimes green tails.
  10. I just received the email! A little late. ?
  11. I wonder if you are right. I buy a lot from them but did not get that email or offer.
  12. I bought a kit like this: https://www.trailerjacks.com/fulton-3-x-4-bolt-on-trailer-hinge-kit-fold-away-coupler-7500-lbs-tongue-frame?language=en&currency=USD&msclkid=49e34a293081126bf4722e158210f788&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=New Campaign 6-8-2017&utm_term=4575411493143407&utm_content=New Campaign Group With the kit you cut the tongue to a length that will work for you.
  13. I keep the spare or spares (as needed) in my small boat and put them in the truck when I travel. I have a spare mounted on the big boat but if I am going on a long trip or north to Canada I bring two additional spares. Some of the roads in northern Canada are BAD and the trailer tires take a beating. Having the spares handy makes them much easier to check tire pressure when your checking the trailer tire pressure. I keep a 4 way wrench in the truck and a 3' long pipe to use for leverage to break the lugs.
  14. A weighted tube will sink if tied directly to the braid. I usually use a leader but I suspect if you tied your tube directly to braid it might sink a little slower which would be a better presentation. I think maybe I'll try that.
  15. That's one of the takeaways I got from that video. Who is going to be keeping count of 1000 cycles or 2000 cycles? If a $300 battery last half as long as a $600 it breaks even.
  16. I need three batteries for two different boats and have considered switching to lithium but I find the information and actual long-term costs contradictory and confusing. While doing research I found this video on YouTube which answered a few questions but caused even more confusion. Some of you may find this info helpful.
  17. I usually take the lures to a good bait and tackle shop and match them up. Around here most shops stock hooks for big plugs because Striper fishing is popular. If you are near coastal Virginia you should be able to find a shop with the hooks you need.
  18. I have been fishing with live and dead bait since I started fishing and I will continue. Sometimes I enjoy getting a bucket of minnows or crawlers and fishing either from the shore or the boat. I find it very relaxing just sitting there watching the float or rod tip. I also enjoy the surprise when I catch something. Up here you never know what you will catch on bait. I catch a lot of different species of fish on bait many of which I never get to hit a lure.
  19. I think I could give you a run for your money if you want to compare bloopers. Maybe we should get together with Bill Dance and have a Blooper Tournament. Second though maybe not. No one could beat Bill when it comes to bloopers. He's the best! ?
  20. I never got an email. It was listed in the account as a credit. BTW usually they asked what part of the credit I wanted to apply to my order but on one occasion they applied the whole credit to the purchase without asking. It was no big deal but I usually let the $ accumulate until I make a big order.
  21. You used the word "sell" and you got it right. They are not only selling goods but they are selling themselves and their internet videos. They need to post different content or people will stop watching and their income dies.
  22. But where are the big ones? ? BTW ?
  23. It's $30 in credit for whatever you want. Don't forget the free shipping.
  24. BTW I see that Further North suggested hook cutters and I strongly agree. I always keep a set in each boat and keep them handy. I have had to use them on a few occasions and one time it was a serious situation.
