  1. I have found the most consistent musky lure to be an inline spinner like the Mepps Musky Killer or the Joe Bucher Bucktails. Easy to throw with bass gear. BTW the two biggest pike I have caught were both caught on a 4" grub while fishing for walleye. I love them grubs!
  2. Probably a lifetime, seriously! I need to stop buying but there is always something I want to try. Just last week my son handed me a big shopping bag of extra rubber baits he had. It weighed about 25 pounds.
  3. I have been fishing the Susquehanna for a long time. About 25 or 30 years ago I purchased a 14' jon to leave at the mountain house to use on the river and numerous other lakes and ponds. I never had a depth finder on the Jon. About 6 years ago I got a deal on a Hummingbird and I put it on the boat. There is one stretch of the Susquehanna I fish regularly. I knew the approximate depths and that the river usually changes some after each storm. There is an area where I catch some musky. I knew the musky held in the area but not why. It was not until I used the depth finder did I realized that a huge pool in the area that I "assumed" was 5 or 6 feet deep was actually 10 to 12 feet deep and it did not change with the storms over the period of the last 6 years. The places I catch the musky are adjacent to the deep pool. The depth finder changed everything I thought I knew about that section of the river.
  4. There was a seafood retailer on the east coast a few years ago called "Ms. Paul's Seafood". I had a friend who caught and sold Ms. Paul's sharks that they prepared, packaged, and sold as scallops. People loved Mrs. Paul's scallops. I know I did.
  5. Thirty percent would be about right. Most LED bulbs draw about 1/4 of the wattage needed for a standard incandescent bulb. Another interesting tidbit about LEDs. Last year we had a storm that knocked out the power in the neighborhood. A transformer had been hit by lightning. All my neighbor's lights were out except mine. I have mostly LEDs. Mine were putting out much less light than normal but enough light to get around. Every other appliance, TV etc. was down. It seems that a small current was leaking through the damaged transformer and it was enough to cause the LEDs to "glow". I have LED nav lights on both boats and trailers. Not only do they draw less wattage but they are brighter and last much longer. In fact, I cannot remember ever having to replace one.
  6. I would not be surprised if some combinations of plastics react with each other. This past Monday I grabbed a 3700 box to go fishing. There was a glide bait in the box. I think it was a Savage Gear but I'm not sure. I usually pin the hooks with a small rubber band. The rubber band on this lure was melted and stuck to the lure. I do not remember any other lures or plastics being in the same section but there could have been during previous trips. The same type of rubber band is used on all lures and that was the only one that melted.
  7. That would be Champ. BTW I was thinking the same thing. Maybe Champ is into salvaging scrap metal in addition to monstering. ?
  8. Some people have all the luck but then again that could be a curse depending on your self-control. ?
  9. One day while duck hunting in the winter I was letting out some rope in a current. I was holding the rope because I wanted to position the boat in a precise spot. The rope was sliding through my neoprene gloves. After I got positioned I realized the rope had cut two slits right through my gloves. Thin rope can cut like a saw blade. I lost my Tri-fluke anchor in Lake Champlain last year. Dropped the anchor to fish a rock pile. When I was done fishing I pulled up the rope and somehow the anchor came off and all I had was a hook no anchor.
  10. A 1/2" rope is much easier to handle than a thin rope in cold weather. Here are Minn Kota's recommendations for engine thrust vs. length and weight. https://minnkota.johnsonoutdoors.com/us/support/trolling-motor-installation-guides/motor-selection-boat-size-guide
  11. Interesting point. It seems the baits that work the best for me are all pricey, Nikko for instance being some of my favorite.
  12. This is the second year I have taken advantage of the offer. You cannot go wrong! And then there is the shipping time. Another plus compared to some others.
  13. I fish my 1/2 oz and lighter jerk baits on medium and medium light action spinning rods. Most of the spinning rods are loaded with 10 or 12 lb. braid and a mono or fluro leader. Good luck!
  14. ? And many uses.
  15. There are times and places on the Susquehanna River when we just keep catching SM cast after cast. I look for areas with unique current seams and flows. If everything is right the fish stack up in some locations. We usually do not catch big fish but a lot of smaller fish.
  16. I think I fished that same hump on Black Lake. BTW did you find the single tree with all the crappie? ? Seriously I have had experiences like that on Black Lake.
  17. Thanks MN Fisher. I'm going to need two or maybe three batteries this year but there is so much info out there and I'm not sure what is accurate or hype.
  18. Would one of these work for a 12 V trolling motor? Or would I need to look for something bigger? https://www.homedepot.com/p/MIGHTY-MAX-BATTERY-12-Volt-100Ah-Lithium-Replacement-Battery-for-Renogy-PV-Solar-Panels-MAX3894921/323869632 BTW They have a battery with similar specs listed for $70 less. What am I missing? https://www.homedepot.com/p/MIGHTY-MAX-BATTERY-ML100-12LI-12-Volt-100-AH-Deep-Cycle-Lithium-Battery-ML100-12LI/315039944
  19. I have a 14' Jon. The first thing I thought of when I read your post was "seats". I have two seats with backrests in my Jon. I also mounted them so you sit about 3 inches higher than the standard mounts. It makes getting up and moving around easier for me. I have a depth finder and running lights. Both are fused and connected to the battery with alligator clips. Nothing fancy but efficient. I always have a paddle, but I take oars for use on some big electric-only lakes in case the battery gives out. I have a small toolbox with the boat's paperwork, spare bulbs, spark plugs, drain plug, and tools. I also have rod holders mounted. I fish the Susquehanna River a lot and I troll. Leaving a rod in a rod holder lets me concentrate on maneuvering the boat in the current.
  20. Interesting!! That could be the next wacky worm. I'd like to try that but at $15 it is a little pricey.
  21. I thought those fancy Megabass lures came with fish already attached. ?
  22. I thought FFS would be a game changer for a few of the lakes I fish regularly. I ordered a Lowrance unit. In the interim, I read or watched everything I could including some stuff by and about Josh Jones. It quickly became apparent that using the FFS was more like playing a video game than fishing. One statement that read something like " your eyes will be glued to the screen constantly" opened my eyes. I like to fish and I don't play video games. When the unit came in I passed on the TM transducer and had them mount the unit on my console. Spending that kind of money and not using all the features may seem like a waste of money to many but it may be a better option for me. I like to find fish or structures and fish them. Much like hunting. The new Lowrance unit is an upgrade to the SI and DI unit I have been using and will let me fish the way I like with hopefully more detail. As for the FFS if I decide to try it I'll buy the transducer and move it to the front of the boat. Until then I'll keep fishing the way I enjoy fishing.
  23. I used to use the small .1 oz tubes from Harbor Fright but have switched to the Loctite Gel. The Gel lasts longer in the bottle and I can just remove the cap and use it. I also think it is stronger than the adhesive in the small tubes.
  24. Senko TRD Finesse Worm Fluke 3 to 4" grub
  25. I usually use 40 or 50 pound PP for frogs and other lures on top of vegetation. BUT I rigged up a rod for swim baits and tried some 65 pound PP Maxcuatro. I'm not sold on the Maxcuatro for swimbaits because of the small diameter but I have used that rod and line to fish frogs and the combo has worked well.
