Catching chubs in winter...
Same here in SE PA. I always enjoyed catching them. I fished small creeks and looked for a smaller creek or stream feeding in.

How many lipless cranks too many?
I have a friend who is a guide in Quebec. He fishes with just two lures, a white spinner bait, and a Booyah One Knocker in Toledo Gold. I fish with him occasionally; that is all he brings and uses and he catches fish. He has another friend from Texas who drives up and fishes with him for a few weeks each summer. A few years ago the friend had just put his boat in and I went over to BS. I looked at his console and he had a mess of white spinner baits and the same Booyah One Knockers hanging from his windshield. I made a comment about his extensive variety of lures and he insisted those two were all you needed. I don't have nearly as many lipless cranks as most of you, but I do have a few and the Booyah One Knocker in Toledo Gold works!!

When do you abandon electronics and go fish shallow?
This is just my gut feeling based on a lot of time on the water. I have no scientific study or any notes to back up my "gut feeling" and it could change but now I think I can operate my TM at a very slow speed and because it gives off less vibration and noise it does not affect fish. At higher speeds, I believe the TM does alert them. The sonar ping is always the same intensity and I have no way to reduce the intensity so I shut it down.

Maximizing FFS
I just bought a Lowrance unit with the FFS capability. I originally wanted the FFS technology but I have done some research and watched some videos and come to the conclusion that FFS is more of a video game than a fishing experience. It would be an advantage in a few places I fish like the St. Lawrence but not in the majority of the water I fish. I may change my mind in the future but right now the expense and how it needs to be used to be successful is not for me. I want to fish not play an arcade game on my boat. ?

Rapala DT
The DT series is my favorite crank baits right now. But as Woody says they are fragile.

Bait fish by season?
Maybe a little off topic but what is the biggest goby you folks have ever seen? A few years ago I snagged one while fishing a jig on the St Lawrence. It was 10 inches long. I may have used it for bait but I had no tackle with me to fish anything that big. At the time I did not think they grew that big.

Thanks, guys! I passed on the info.

Next Gen Forward Facing Sonar
You're going to have an FFS unit with AI that not only electro-shocks the fish but robotically retrieves them and attaches them to your lure before they include a free gift for your wife. ? Just hand her the equivalent cost in cash.

Question About The Guntersville
I have a friend in Guntersville right now looking at houses. He would like to be near the lake and close to Huntsville where some family lives. He is concerned that the area may be like the New Jersey shore in the summer. For those that don't know the Jersey shore is constant traffic, people, and turmoil in the summer. Not pleasant. Can someone tell me what he can expect regarding crowds and traffic come summer in Guntersville and Scottsboro areas? Thanks!

What Did I Do Wrong?
I don't know how to pronounce it but I think you got the spelling right. ?

Sonar, can we live without it ???
You are right but do fish interpret sonar pings as a threat like they do a shadow or as a non-threatening sound like fish feeding or breaking the surface? I have no way of knowing so I'll try to be as stealthy as possible.

Sonar, can we live without it ???
I usually turn off the sonar when fishing. I think they can detect the pulse. Since I usually know the water I'm fishing and I'm usually fishing shallow there is no reason to keep it on in most circumstances. I also use just enough power on the TM to maneuver. I think fish can detect the TM. I think/feel I do better with the TM running very slow as opposed to just slow. I believe any disturbance can alert fish so I try to eliminate all but any necessary disturbance. Sometimes especially in shallow water, I'm stalking fish rather than fishing for them.

What Did I Do Wrong?
I live in Philly and worked in King of Prussia so I experienced the worst of both worlds. Please be gentle!!! ? I don't take game fish from any water except when in the bush up north but the snakehead gives me the opportunity to keep fish down here without getting anyone upset. And they taste great!

What Did I Do Wrong?
I agree. The ponds I'm talking about are near my house in Sullivan County in NE PA. My other house is in SE PA. The water I fish in SE PA is a lot bigger than the water I fish up north but I catch bass all year down here if the water is open. I always pictured those NE PA bass burying themselves in the mud until spring.?

What Did I Do Wrong?
I think your right. I fish a few small shallow ponds in NE PA. I stopped fishing them in winter because for some reason those small shallow ponds shut down in cold weather and were not productive. Since NE PA weather is similar to the OP's weather I'd suspect the same. BTW the ponds I'm talking about are private ponds with no pressure and plenty of bass all year except for the coldest months, November to March. I could never figure out why but just came to accept it.

Defective battery?
They did. I was in Sam's Club last summer getting a car battery replaced under a warranty. The battery failed in less than a year so I got a free replacement. The battery salesman was in there stocking Sam's shelves. He worked for a big company that made batteries under a number of labels. He told me that the latest batteries being manufactured are junk. He cited a couple of reasons and one of them being that China was buying up the lead driving prices up. In response, manufacturers were making batteries with thinner plates and as a result, they were failing sooner.

Sonar, can we live without it ???
Yes, they were but I didn't think so then. I had an Impulse that was supposed to be one of the best. Big block-like pixels. I think I also had an X-70 at one time. But nothing could compare to a paper graph like my Lowrance X-15. The detail was fantastic. I'd used the LCD for general "looking" but when I wanted detail I went with the paper graph.

BaitFuel Fish Attractant Gel
It dried out in the few bags I added to and ended up being a white hard flaky substance. BTW I have fished it side by side with an untreated worm and saw no difference.

What lb. test Fluoro leader?
I tend to agree. Fifty percent of me thinks it does not matter. The other 50 percent thinks it does matter so I use a leader most of the time, especially in clear water. But, and there is a "but" and that is I think some lures fish more realistically on lighter line.

Most bass in 2023: Which lure?
For me, it is the exact opposite. It is usually the same, a plastic worm. Without being too specific I am sure it will be a plastic worm, fished wacky, texas rigged or on a ned head.

Sonar, can we live without it ???
I guess it depends on where you fish. I fish a few small lakes where I can consistently catch bass along the shoreline so sonar is not needed. I fish a few other bodies of water that have structure that is not visible without sonar. So in those instances, it is needed. Then there is depth. Sonar is definitely needed to determine water depth. I have used sonar to locate off shore structures that produced fish. In fact, I use it often.
