  1. the capacity is deceiving. It actually represents the capacity weight after the boat has sunk. So your boat full of water will hold 245lbs before it actually sinks to the bottom. Also I forgot to specify the V hulls in my post are better than flatbottom boats in stability
  2. Catt is right. I have fished in many alum rowboats and I found that the ones that are 48" wide are much less stable than ones that are 54" wide. Grumman and Meyers and Alumacraft all have wider beams. I had a 10'er that worked fine for many years but upgraded to a 12'er to fit more gear. 2 200lb guys can stand up and fish and move freely without that tippy feeling when the other guy makes abrupt movements. You can even attach a clamp pedestal seat if you feel better leaning or sitting up high. If you shop around a lot and keep your standards high, a good condition 10' will cost $350 and a 12' boat will cost $450. A new one is over $1000. If you find better you're a great shopper. The $200 boats I looked at were all beaters with patchwork and lots of paint. I stayed away from aftermarket painted boats because I hated seeing flaking paint on my gear and the water. A square back canoe is hard to steer with the motor being directly behind you when its windy and you have to keep your hand on it the whole time. Thats why they make those side mount motor clamps so its at your side with twisting 180 degrees. Hope this helps
  3. WOW 165lbs plus your bow mount. thanks. I wouldn't think Cabelas would have such a specialized part. I thought I knew their whole catalogue.
  4. This was from a boat on an auction site. There are 3 props attached to the big gas motor. Electric I think. I've never seen them before. It is a 22ft bass boat. What are they for and why and how much do they cost? Thanks in advance. http://s910.photobucket.com/albums/ac301/jrattris/Triton/?action=view&current=9.jpg
  5. I like that idea too. It goes with the whole overworking the bait idea.
  6. I fished there a few times with a guide on vacations in January. We found fish everywhere but there were concentrations on the emerged (tall) weeds on the right shoreline leaving the launch and a bunch of bass on a waterpipe draining into the water in front of a big house on the right shoreline as well. Good luck
  7. I think theres too much curve to the blade and it would spin too much on the rip but it could still work.
  8. a weedless spoon with a 3" white grub trailer dragged across the tops of lillipads slowly has worked for me. another option would be to dead stick it so it flutters down as long as you compensate for line twist when you reel it in
  9. Good thread. A couple weeks ago I got 4 bass in 4 casts from one exact spot 2 feet wide off the corner of a tree. They all hit a jig on the fall. 2 of them were over 3lbs and the other 2 were over 2. In the spring I had the same thing happen, 6 bass around 2 lbs in 3 feet water under one branch on a whole shoreline of brush. They were on a jig too. When a bass follows another to the boat and sees you, do you think that fish will still bite after it returns to the depths?
  10. wouldn't it be cool if you could just replace the lower end and put on a jet drive on for a day then just switch back
  11. I have a compre mh fast for senkos and small jigs with 10 lb braid and I love it. Light and powerful. Also I have a med Crucial fast for dropshotting and love that too for their applications. Never heard of a lowrider except in LA Cali movies
  12. The EWG is a thinner guage and they bend open on hooksets. the G- lock is a better hook but for the same money try Owner
  13. Thats right, I said a new 2004 boat I found for sale. Its a leftover from the ice age. This boat has a jet drive 65 hp on a 20' boat for $17K. I was just wondering what kind of parts rust or dryout when an old, new motor hasn't been used in 6 years. Thanks. Probably not in the market but I've got my wheels turnin'.
  14. I think the sensitivity of a flipping rod is as important as power. I think I've missed alot of bites in my life from when they suck it in and spit it out fast.
  15. looking forward to more suggestions on flippin sticks. I want to spend $200 this winter on one too. I already have a Shimano Curado (Low profile) which I use for it. I am a St. Croix fan but not attached to it if there is a better rod for the money.
  16. I got a St Croix 7' med. bait casting rod for free when Dicks forgot to charge my wife for it.
  17. atta boy nice day great pics too. Must be a new camera made for bass pics
  18. its for the deficit only, nothing to do with our fisheries
  19. Pro stand for professional which means fishing for bass is your profession (job). If you still have another job fishing is a hobby. Of course I guess one could have 2 professions. Money from tourneys and sponsors should exceed your expenses too. A pro also promotes products at expos too. just my opinion I guess a Pro is self proclaimed in a way.
  20. I just achieved the title of Mr. Bass in my club as a nonboater. Next summer I will fish for a chance to be on the state team. I had 4 second place finishes and a few thirds and fourths. my mistake tournaments got dropped. We had 11 events and the best 7 count toward points.
  21. Congrats on the state team. good luck I love to dropshot the humps and deep points for smallmouth on Candlewood. I wish that lake wasn't 1.5 hrs away. I love that place.
  22. Yeah, that's why we're the richest state. Apparently we have a big deficit to pay for and cigarettes are going up another dollar. I think it would be a better idea for the state to raise licenses $5 a year for a couple years instead of doubling it all at once. It will definitely backfire when local and out of staters stop hunting and fishing here. Also this will affect the sporting stores.
  23. Isn't it ironic...a trout on a bass site ;D
