Any CT guys/gals here???
Anyone hear a rumor that Bass Pro Shops was looking into moving into Showcase Cinema location in East Hartford? Now that would be perfect. Since Cabelas stinks for bass fisherman

Any CT guys/gals here???
81, you definitely should have broken down in front of someone else's dock. That Nazi at Gardiner has screamed at the DEP too in the cove doing surveys. My friend called the DEP to complain that he was being harassed and they said they knew him well. How is he not arrested or in a Psych Ward for harassment? The whole state knows him. I've never heard an 80 year old guy swear so much at random people. I heard he used to own the lake many moons ago.

Any CT guys/gals here???
I mean its a struggle to get a limit. I usually limit too but at Mansfield you have to catch 10 shorts for one 11-15/16" keeper. Gardiner has some quality but not much in numbers. The ski boat traffic shuts off the bite at 9am. Coventry Lake CT is the same way with the ski boats. Another thing about Gardiner is there is not 1 bass boat on that lake that is on a dock. If you fish Gardiner you must know the Dock Hitler in the back right cove

Any CT guys/gals here???
Lets discuss CTs worst and best Lakes. I vote Masfield Hollow, Crystal and Gardiner for worst and Candlewood and Winchester for Best

Any CT guys/gals here???
What club are you in. I'm in SCBA. I live in stratford, and fish all over CT. I'm in Tobacco Valley Bass Anglers. We fish all over CT too. From East Twin to Candlewood to Pachaug to Quaddic. I also fish some CT Outdoors events and my first Bassin USA event this year

Any CT guys/gals here???
Ellington here. Smallies are tough going for me this year. Largemouth are easy with all the high water and flooded brush. Got a couple seconds this year in my club and lots of thirds. Still looking for a first. Not bad from the back of a boat.

Gunk
thats a good problem to have. no one else likes to fish that stuff, so its all yours. it takes so long to clean gunk from your worm and even still it doesn't all come off. stick with the weedless tx rigged unweighted senko with the eye buried in the worm. it can be fished universally in all water columns effectively

Hooks "rusting" out
I believe (not documented) that saltwater hooks will rust out in saltwater fish but not freshwater. But freshwater lure hooks will rust out in freshwater fish. I have pulled rusty, falling apart hooks from basses mouth and sphincter--not sure how old they were though. I think a saltwater hook will kill a bass because it would take months to rust out. this is my belief because of what I've heard. good though provoking question

Another Boater drowns one year later on Stafford Pond, Tiverton RI
thats sad to hear. a day that was supposed to be fun turns so tragic. I fish in a 12' rowboat that is 56" wide and is very stable for 2 adults to stand in and fish. I think the problem would be falling overboard complicated by being knocked out or not being able to swim.

Your biggest on a senko
around 4lbs but this magic lure is responsible for most of my tourney catches. I almost always limit and am in the top 5. Thank you Gary!!

Will this fish be okay. Number two.
their stomach acids rust the hooks pretty fast in their mouths--like a few days the lure will free up

structure?....i give up
Do you think Ike ever gave up? for points are tough. The bass are only there on special conditions and times of year. Humps are easier to figure out. Dropshot humps, if you can find any, for about 5 min each. They are either there or they are not. I try a few a day and see if they are on any bass on them. Then I go fish what I know to salvage the day. keep trying different things and take notes on conditions so you can duplicate it in the future

Still spawning? Possible?
speaking of post spawn, I've seen some smallies so beat up with battlewounds in the bed, I don't know how they were still alive. I'm talking red bruises on 90% of their body.

shaky head hook with double tail grub
I use it for bed fishing a slow fall and hop it in place works wonders never used it other than that but it will work

Still spawning? Possible?
my friends and I have been getting a few as recent as last week on beds I got a 3 lb smallie twice protecting a bed

New Finess Rig
Not any big surprises here or secrets. I just thought I'd share my new success and excitement. It seems I have gotten out of the finesse habit that I had a few years ago except for Senkos and drop shots. My catch rates have fallen this year and it has made me rethink my arsenal. I started using a 1/8 oz black jig (Strike King) with a Rockcraw trailer in black (by JDC baits http://www.jdcbaits.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=42_44&osCsid=a097c7ea1ded20f0d39c780754f377fe ) and fishing it on 6lb floro (Berkley 100%) on a medium action Shimano Crucial. The only other alteration is I bite off the forktail on the trailer. This technique allows me to crawl the jig slowly and cover a point faster than a dropshot. Smallies love it and I also catch plenty of largemouth too. Its definitely a numbers bait but it will call 5lbers too.

Why so many blown motors?
Cheaper parts in manufacturing and lots of aluminum and plastic.

crankbaits for smallies
I've done well with perch colors

Where are they??
This seems to be a unique year for CT with all the rain. The water is higher this summer and the water is cooler than usual. The Lake I fish is 500 acres and up to 60' deep. It has points and flats but not much in the way of dropoffs except a few steep shorelines. There are smallies and largemouth here. Half of the lake is rocky shoreline and the other half is mucky with scattered brush. The water temp is now 72. The grasses on the flats have not really grown yet, either because of the temp or that the lake is 4' deeper than a usual summer. The brush has a few fish but not as many as the springtime and no big ones now. The smallies are scattered and not schooling that I've found yet. The flats aren't holding fish now and that's my question. Where are they. If they are not shallow and not on the flats yet in 8-12'water. How do you find concentrations of both species? Forage is both shad and trout as well as craws, sunfish and perch. Could they be suspended and how do you locate them? The lake is electric motor only and I have a cheap fish finder that locates schools of fish sometimes in 20-30' but I'm not sure if they are bass because I can't get them to bite on a dropshot. Thank you so much. Jim
