my new combo
It will be great for crankbaits and spinnerbaits over 3/8 oz and ok for t rigged plastics. If you want a rod to do all three then I think you made a good choice. I think it is easier to fish a t rig on a mod/fast than to throw a crankbait on a fast. This is just my preference. Shimano Compres MH mod/fast is on the faster side of crankbait rods. I think the TC4 blank is a mix of graphite and glass which may not be quite as sensitive is an all graphite blank. It is also a little heavier. With this said, I think you will be fine with that setup. One question though. Why a Pflueger on a Shimano rod? ;D j/k

St. croix avid help
1 piece for sure. The 7' MF is a great all-around stick. If you are going to throw a lot of weightless plastics, jigs, and tx rigs then you could also look at the 6'8 MXF. Either way you will love your new setup.

Gen 2 Dobyns 704CB Glass
I would HIGHLY recommend looking at the 704cb graphite. I was in the same boat as you a couple weeks ago. A lot of research, emailing Gary, talking with different staffers, and even talking with the people at bass tackle depot helped me make up my mind. I have had two shipped to me, but there were problems with both. I did check out the action and it seems just a little slower than a Loomis MBR842. Definitely not as whippy as a Loomis CBR843, but will throw light shallow cranks no problem. I also have the 705 CB that has a similar action to a Loomis CBR845, but a little more power IMO. As for the getting bad rods. The first two had large spots of filler unlike any previous Dobyns (2) that I had purchased. Rich Dobyns sent me two to replace them and the 704 had a dent in the cork. The 705 is perfect. Hopefully I will be getting a new 704 shortly. Let me know if you have anymore specifics. Although I haven't fished them, I have used several cb rods in the past and I will try my best to help you out.

Texas Rig Setup?
Pretty good advice, but it's the 6' 8.125" rod that makes the best "Texas Rig Setup".

t-rig/shaky head rod
Definitely look for a Loomis BCR803 GLX on the forum. If you like longer rods then go with the 853. They can be had on average for around $250.

Got excited about BPS,,,,, for a minute
Wrong St. Charles swilly. ;D I was thinking the same thing, but then looked it up and saw MO. Do you plan to go out to Bolingbrook during the Classic?

Is it worth it?
I'll save you the time. Yo Zuri Hybrid in 12# test.

Is it worth it?
Good choice. I wasn't trying to argue your point at all about the smoothness. Everyone seems to have a similar opinion. I just want to let the OP know my experience. The only difference I can see is the Curado has a crankshaft bearing and the Citica has a bushing. Out of the box there was a difference, but once I soaked them and added some oil there wasn't much that I could tell. I will say that the handle seems to have a little more play in the Citica vs the Curado. Both great reels at their price range. You will love the Curado. Now all you need to do is PM Roadwarrior for what line to spool up.

Is it worth it?
I really don't buy the "Curado is smoother than the Citica" statement. I took all my reels down to the frame, degreased, and re-lubed. The Citica and Curado feel to the exact same on the retrieve. There is a difference between the Chronarch D7 and the Curado E7 however. The Citica does not throw lighter, under 3/8 oz, as well as the Curado. That does not mean it can't throw these baits; just that the Curado is better. If you are going to throw plastics, topwater, jigs, jerkbaits, frogs, etc. then I would get the Curado based on the greater IPT. The Citica will work for all these as well, but I prefer to throw crankbaits on it. Of course, this is just all my opinion, but isn't that what message boards are? ;D

Help Me Out Here
Given blood probably 5 times in the last 8 years. The blood bank in Milwaukee was right by my school and they found out I was O positive. Lets just say I got a call "often". Our school does a blood drive in Chicago for the UIC medical center at least once a year and I have donated to them twice.

My Dog Died
Just like you, I can't stand cats. LOVE dogs and can't imagine losing one. We just got one and she is only 2 years old, but I don't even want to think of the day she passes on. :'( Sending my condolences Mike.

1000 or 2500
For the monster bass here in N. Illinois, I like the 8000. Just in case I hook into a 4lber.

Shimano Core 100Mg
If you have a bing.com account you can get them for the buy it now price minus 8%. Just got a Core 51Mg for $190 plus $10 shipping minus $23. Pretty good for $275. You might be able to find a Core 100Mg for even less if you look around. I have a D7 and it is plenty light for me and it is buttery smooth. You can get them for $245 shipped before cashback.

Citica Steal
I was going to say go with an Avid, but I saw you wanted split grip. Therefore, maybe you could check out their new Pearl series. http://stcroixrods.com/product/avid-pearl

Citica E for Crankin
Thanks guys. What's up Brad? Nice to see you over here as well. Now back to COD MW2.

Citica E for Crankin
Anybody use a Citica E for throwing cranks in the 8-14' range? Wondering if I can get away with it for now. Deepest diving would be a Fat Free Shad Jr. and DD14's. Majority would be Deep Little N's. The reason I ask is because my cb rod doubles as a jerkbait rod and I don't know if I could throw jerkbaits on a 21 IPT reel. Thanks guys.

UPDATE* E7 let down
I think they make a patch for that RW. It might help you keep to your new years resolution. ;D

help on new dobyns combo
Get the DX744. It has a faster action than the 734 which most prefer for bottom contact presentations.
-
First baitcaster?????
Get yourself a New Citica for under $100. Just look around and you can find one.

What does handle tuning do?
I pm'd him about the same thing. He explained to me that he has run a test with the new handle and got 32 IPT. I actually remember a discussion about this a couple months ago and we concluded that it did not make a difference. Who knows I guess.

I've heard red sports car and also red honda. There was a picture on the original news report. I do NOT think he was 6'4, but the pic isn't the greatest.

First impressions on my new Dobyns Extreme
I picked up a DX744 in a trade a couple weeks ago. We have frozen water here so I haven't had a chance to toss it. Still in plastic on the rod rack actually. I also had a $200 gc to *** so I picked up a 735C for my froggin duties. Got the rod and it had a large "dent" in the cork. TW is sending me a prepaid label to send it back and exchange it. Both rods balance great and they have just the right action for what I intend to use them for. I too hate split grips rods, I actually sold a 704c earlier in the year to someone on here. This has forced me to go with the champion 7'3's, DX7'4's, and crankbait models. Not really sure what I am going to do if I ever want to add a spinning rod. :-/
