Jerk Bait question.
I only throw a few Pointer 78. Most are 100 or bigger. I use an Avid AVC62MXF, Daiwa Alphas Ito Ai, spooled up with 8# CXX.

Worm Burn?
I don't know if it was a worm, or that quality Quantum is so well known for. Either way, my customer is pretty disappointed. He usually fishes Shimanos, and his exact quote was, "I could have bought two Citicas for what I paid for this junk."

Fertilizer effects on fishing
My personal experience in this would be limited to small ponds <acre, and while we buffered the water, we were generally trying to limit nutrients in the water, simply because the ponds were overstocked. Up here, I guess this isn't a problem in natural lakes. Thanks for the explanation.

Reely kool !
I'm not sure what the hangup on the grips is...they come off in about 10 seconds. Some guys swear by them, I find them "creepy" feeling. Having the handle on one side or another would only dictate what I used the reel for, though I can pretty much use either side, and no "hand switching" necessary. Its still the wrong color.

Worm Burn?
Take a look at this customer reel. Its less than one season old. Never seen salt, no fancy line additives, spooled with 50# Suffix braid, fished from a kayak... All I can think of is worm burn. Reel sent to Quantum under warranty.

Fertilizer effects on fishing
A assumed as much, thought the "often" verbiage had me curious. Seems like this lake has some issues to start with.

Weapon of Choice
Depends on the time of day and season. During spring time, and through prespawn, I'll have a hard jerkbait rigged up, two crankbait rods, and small swimbait rod, finesse worm and one or two spinner/chatterbait rods.

Fertilizer effects on fishing
I think jigman has the same question as I: what is the fertilizer for?

Erie Currents???
What buoy are you reading currents for?

The next "big thing"
This stuff is great, but really its no great gain over a simple Alberto knot that can be easily tied on the water.

Sol vs. Pixy on a Dobyns for finesse
My buddy Bernie is on their pro staff, and I've been able to play with a few Dobyns rods.... they are REALLY nice. As far as the sol/pixy debate, the pixy needs some help out of the box, though it will throw lighter baits a little better. The sol will be fine out of the box, but there are also some improvements that can be made as well. If you can find an Alphas Ito Ai (super light sol), that might be the easiest choice. I found mine used for about $175.

Tournaments during the spawn
So does me tinkling in Lake Ontario, but there is virtually NO IMPACT to the fishery. Try to keep things in perspective here. It is you with your eyes wide shut. You're basically saying that what is OK for you to do, is not OK for others.

Knot?
Knots that work well with Fluorocarbon: Alberto Uni Eugene Palomar Snell Fluorocarbon will separate the men from the boys when it comes to knot tying ability. Always do a strength test after tying a knot.

Catch & Release
What is the survival rate of a bass on rope? :
-
Catch & Release
These discussions always degrade into retarded generalizations. What does hunting and catch and release of fish have to do with each other? Nothing, that's what. If you are a true fishing sportsman, you'll release the bigger fish to grow even bigger. Period. Otherwise, you're a numbers guy, and not at all interested in the resource.

I just don't trust this thing
A friend of mine is using Trio 55 exclusively for saltwater. He reports they handle 40 lb. stripers and double digits reds just fine. Specs here: http://www.okumafishing.com/family/284019

Greasing gears in a reel, what's the proper way??

Favorite Season to bass Fish?
Anytime the water isn't frozen.

Greasing gears in a reel, what's the proper way??
This cleaner you use, is it petroleum ether/naptha? Acetone bath seems to work the best so far.

Pork Rind Frog on a Boo Jig
It also keeps from hitting the roof of the fishes mouth and deflecting the hookset. I'm selling on that one, but it could be a problem with a lame hookset. Not saying yours are lame, but sometimes you get caught off guard.

Curado 101D & Sol B/C Reels For Crankbaits?
I have two Sols, and alphas, and an Alphas Ito Ai, all for throwing treble hooked baits.

Just for Long Mike
If you want to sound smart and stuff, say "irrespective," LOL.

Pork Rind Frog on a Boo Jig
Its important to know the "why" when sharing a tip like trimming a weed guard. it stiffens the guard so it works better in wood or heavy cover.

Removing the rattles from a lipless crankbait
Not too many silent lipless crank options. Its just too easy to modify any trap with super glue.

Split-shot break off
NY has long since banned the sale of lead split shot, so most of what you see up here is tin or steel shot. We've had zero issues using lead shot on fluorocarbon leaders down to 4# size, catching fish in the mid teens. I don't see why this would be a problem using lead with the much larger diameters. Tin or steel shot, however is a problem.
