  1. Tin shot can be problematic. Lead is a bit softer.
  2. Seriously though, have you ever come across anything off-shore that was man-made? I know of a couple concrete slabs and Christmas trees around docks and that is it. I do agree that it is tough to make a fish-attracting piles, of all the Christmas trees I know of in Indian and Johnsons, I have never caught a fish off them. Just boats, cars, and the occasional 55 gallon barrel.
  3. Fish Grip or Boga works the best.
  4. I didn't take that one, but I fixed it up as well as I could in post. My buddy broke that rod this past week on a teens fish, LOL.
  5. We are a bigger group of anglers in NY, and yet when you go to meetings, bass get about 5 minutes of time. The dollars and cents that go into trout management and conservation is grossly disproportional to the dollars and cents bass and panfish anglers generate in revenue.
  6. The ice just isn't melting fast enough...... :
  7. Aplodinotus grunniens
  8. That's it, Tin. The "masses" asked for it, and they got it.
  9. 29....missed the liquor question, LOL.
  10. What is "political" about telling people to speak up for themselves?
  11. My boat: Just kidding, I fish from a kayak. You might contact Paul Roberts here...very knowledgeable...he's a float man, and even has a graph rigged on his.
  12. So they can look up what year the fish was stocked.... $1.2 million :
  13. LMAO....we fish for steelhead and salmon with UL to L power, slow taper rods. They are a bit bigger, and fight a little harder than bass, LOL.
  14. Trout guys here in NY get a fin clipping machine. We got ramp closures in August.
  15. Here's the interesting thing to me. This was open for input starting back in October 2009. The document was a charter for starting a task force on the oceans and Great lakes fishery management. The part that rankled anglers was that there was no distinction made between commercial and recreational fishing. I can't help but to think that even though the the time to express our views about the task force had expired, that public outcry actually elicited an official response. Now, when this comes up again, and surely it will.... Will this event finally be the wake up call for bass anglers to organize and express their opinions to elected government officials? We are the most disorganized of all the angling groups, yet represent the majority, by a long shot, if you include crappie and panfish anglers into the mix, yet other groups seem to get anything they want, simply because they are organized, and have a unified voice....Trout Unlimited....ahem.... We need a unified voice.
  16. Olde English for 12:00 PM.
  17. Get your boat officially inspected at a Coast Guard station. That sticker will save you a ton of aggravation on the water, and you'll know for sure your boat is compliant.
  18. Ribbon Tail Worms. New baits come and go, but the ribbon tail worm will always catch fish.
  19. Amen to that brother! Its a great time for a guy my age, starting to put things together for later.
  20. Black Widow II, or Poor Man's Presso, LOL. I inspect the magnets on the palm side, and unless its difficult to adjust, or dirty, I leave it. Its pretty simple, though If you remember that when the hash marks are aligned, the brakes are set to zero. The parts that can get dirty are in the adjustment knob itself, but you have to remove the magnet stack to get at it.
  21. If it looks like this, you did it the right way.
  22. This reel was a PL100 or PR100, IIRC. It was silver. I ended up picking up a Procaster Magforce to replace almost everything but the spool, frame, handle, gear set, and side covers. If I can find an AR bearing to fit in there, I might build one for myself.
  23. Never used the grease, but the silicote oil breaks down with moderate use. What reel are you servicing and what's the application? In my travels, these are a few lubes I like: Cal's Shimano Star Drag Grease Rocket Fuel Yellow Label Shimano Bantam Oil TD-Z Oil Reel Mech Grease and Oils Shimano Permalub Superlube A sweet mix for cold temp grease applications is Permalub mixed with a bit of Bantam oil. Keeps spinning reels running smooth and easy down to about 5° F in my informal testing.
