  1. I thought Bill Murphy used spinning quite a bit. He caught a couple good ones.
  2. Seat time and practice running fast is key. It took me two full seasons to start to scratch the surface of high 70s in my Bullet. Fastest was 84.7 on GPS. Not something you do without some experience.
  3. I like them as a jig trailer. You can really customize them by tearing appendages off which is really cool.
  4. All of NY boaters will need a cert next year.
  5. I caught a 6' mako shark on spinning gear, so my take is as long as the gear matches the bait and the quarry, it doesn't matter.
  6. Because the trailer is free swinging it's less snaggy than the main hook. Honestly, it's never been a big problem, and I primarily throw them into submerged wood. A spinnerbait is probably the least snaggy bait. Certainly less than a jig or Texas rig. A spinner bait is my first choice when working on sunken wood cover. Then again, been fishing them for three decades and have developed a light touch.
  7. We had a couple at the cottage. They were beaters and really only usable for panfishing.
  8. For $10 get the extra rod and take a bud fishing.
  9. I only really fish three or four baits anyway, so I rig up the night before. I really enjoy the prep time.
  10. Winni is awesome 🤩
  11. There are opinions wherever people are.
  12. It's a bit presumptuous to pass judgement on what gives others joy, materialism aside. I've benefitted plenty from working for the man. The man has also benefitted from my occasional dismemberment of the metaphoric man.
  13. Not all of us are blessed healthy weeds.
  14. Not with a worm weight, but I have done something similar for a weedless wacky rig. If you use a slightly bigger finesse hook, you can run the hook point back through, Texas style, with no issues. If I ever needed weight, I'd just add a nail to the bait or use a wacky jig. You can also just add some split shot close to the hook or wherever. Helps on a breezy day.
  15. Not too sure that's unique to the rod building community.
  16. I had to look up flexural. Why isn't there a fiber reinforced tape that looks good for this?
  17. Rebel deep craw. Still use them.
  18. I only ever filled my tank when I had propane. The place up the street is gone now, but I've been using charcoal for over a decade.
  19. I'll fish topwaters alone at night, but not with others. I can't trust them. Too many baits flying back. I'm not sure why anyone would need to set a topwater hook that hard anyway.
  20. Waiting, meh. If waiting means waiting as long as I did in the vid I posted, then yes. I don't recall feeling anything on that strike but I do recall my Python colored Popmax disappearing after the splash, so I gave it a snap set and it worked out. I don't get too many baits winging back at me, so o feel like it works for me.
  21. I've put those little colored stickers for garage sales on my frogs so I can see them. Pink or yellow dots seem to work the best for me. You could probably do that or paint something bright on the lure without affecting the action.
