worst thing a non boater has done?
I use to teach and guide kayak fishing classes. One day discussing all the skills and items, next day on the water. I had two types: anglers that wanted to learn kayaks, and kayakers that wanted to learn fishing. Yo can guess which group was the least entertaining, lol.

Can I Realistically Use My Bass Rod For Trout/Panfish Situations?
A medium heavy is going to be a struggle, but a medium power would be better. I use a medium pwoer rod here for these trout:

Boat Positioning with Kayaks
I fish some very similar glacial lakes, and this is one of the reasons I actually like the swing. Allows me to cover a bit more water when anchoring on a location. You can also use the resistance of a diving crank bait to position the boat or even affect your drift.

I'd kill for a octa plus VistaLites! I love the SpeedCobras. If long boards aren't your thing, then the IronCobras are the way to go. It does take some getting used to, coming from DW 9000. They're lighter, and at first it feels like you can't hot them hard enough, but use your ears, they're plenty powerful, and the main thing is you are in control. You're not flinging a heavy beater at the drum. You're playing it. BTW, I just cleaned those pedals! I wear Chaco sandels when I play, so that's probably what's on them. Soles are black. I a pair of 13" New Beats I got as a teenager so i could get that "datt-pst-pst" Niel thing going, lol. Going from tight 13s to big sloshy 15s was a major adjustment. Here's the full kit when I was with my prog band, The Concussed: So L-R: 10" Popcorn snare, 13, 10, 12, 8, 15, 16. Cymbals: 12" splash over 12" china trash hats, 10" splash, 17", 16", 14" crashes, 20" ride, 16" china, 10" splashe for x-hat.

Ranger Boat's Icon
Unnecessary? What if YOU cause damage to another boat or personal injury to someone else on the water? Who do you think will cover that?

Boat Positioning with Kayaks
I run the same rigging. I'll try to get a pic later.

Boat Positioning with Kayaks
I'm inclined to agree with @Choporoz thoughts on anchoring, though I fish in little current. Wind would be my issue. Super deep means 2-3 miles off shore in 30-40 FOW.

Beginner Bass Boat for Big Open Water (Great Lakes)
I grew up fishing Lake Ontario. Pretty much any day I'd consider safe enough to go out on Lake Ontario in a deep-V would also be acceptable for a typical bass boat. Trouble is when you the weather kicks up and you have to get back. For years, I ran a deep-v tiller, and for years I ran an Xpress Hyperlift aluminum, then a 21' 10" Bullet. Bass boats were much more comfortable to fish from. That said, these days, I'm looking to go back to deep-v tiller config. Newer designs are as fishable as bass boats, and have great storage. Word of caution fishing Great Lakes. Stuff can kick up fast. Case in point: And in the big Lake:

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
There's a dude at every pond I fish that claims a DD. I've ruined a few guy's claims about 10 pounders by offering them my scale. It always ends with, "That can't be right? Just three and a half pounds? I'd swear it was ten." Nice chunker, btw!

Both Texas rigs and jigs?
Exactly. Bring a jig and worm rod, and let the fish tell which to tie on.

Flipping Boats (reselling)
If it's what you say it is, it's $10k all day for that boat. Might have to hang on to it until spring, though.

Guitar?
They are about the same angle to me as if they were raised. So, right now, I have them up a bit, and slightly canted toward me. Lowering them was more about the live presentation. Drums for that band were out front, with the other two on either side. While I'm still the band leader in my new four piece, we're primarily featuring our singer (my GF) Michelle. The drums are Pearl Masterworks, built around the prototype Masters series bass drum used for display at NAMM when they came out with this finish, which is lacquer, and not a wrap. The full kit is 8, 10, 12, 13, 15, 16, 20. The snare is a Gretsch USA 5-ply maple with Dunnett hardware. Cymbals are Dream Bliss and Vintage Bliss. I have Ks, Byzance, and a few other vintage Zildjians, but these Dreams are where it's at for me. Here's the kit I'm useing now in it's current configuration. Yeah I know it looks backwards, lol. Think of it as a 4-pc. Big 15" rack, 16" floor, and a set of bongos for accent up top.

Boat Positioning with Kayaks
I actually like the swing in breeze or current. Get a trolley all the way. I installed on on my new Hobie Compass, but haven't used it much since I can hold position with the pedal driven Mirage Drive. I also have a sculling paddle. Took it out once, never used it again, totally useless. I don't fish too many places a stakeout pole will work, but I have considered a Powerpole Micro. Again, Mirage Drive has been solving most of the issues. I've use a fish grip with a retractable dog leash as a sort of brush anchor. For a knife, I recommend the NRS Coplilot: https://www.nrs.com/product/47303.02/nrs-co-pilot-knife. Clip it to your vest, and use the quick release when you need it in a hurry. Last of all, newer hull designs are not nearly as prone to getting blown around. Look for a sleek aero top deck design. Take a look at this, to see me using the Mirage Drive to hold position in wind. I've also started using the drive for small corrections while standing. It's easy to make a couple of pumps one handed without setting the rod down.

You know you've been talking fish at work too much when...

Force. I remember when his hair was darker.- Old Bass Pro line of rods, underrated?
I had a few Bionic Blades back in the mid 90s, and they were a whole lot fancie than the rods I used before that. Supplemented that collection with some Fenwicks, later Team All Stars. They were all on even footing.- Spin Cast Casting Problem
Sticky pickup pin, or a tangle on the spool from reeling loose line.- St Croix Mojo Yak series rods
Why is your rod poking into your belly? This sounds so uncomfortable. Tuck that rod under your arm, for leverage when setting the hook.- Giant Bass
Very good points. I should probably fish this lake more often. It's a bit far is my issue, but there are giants in there:- St Croix Mojo Yak series rods
Yeah, I don't quite get it either. I have two rods shorter than 7' - a spinnerbait rod and a topwater rod. I guess I don't see what the fuss over the rear grip is either. Are people fishing with the rod out in front of them? I tuck the butt end under my arm, ready to used for leverage when I get bit. The same I'd be holding if I were on shore, or in a boat. You can see how this works at the 4:00 mark below. Maybe someone has pics showing the difference between shortened grip and normal grip, and how they hold it? Also, I'm not sure the word "yak" is what I'd be marketing. Sounds like they're selling barf. I love my SC rods - have at least 30 of them - but these miss the mark in my book. - Post a photo a day!
